Whew. Wouldn't be surprised if this is my longest video to date... or at least shot with the camera. Hopefully those of you who asked for something longer than the usual fare will enjoy. =) For the rest, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a touch slow-paced for you. In which case, please check out this video here: ruclips.net/video/cNwzS0VOy1E/видео.html Not new, but I think it's one of my favourite ones I've done so far. EDIT: I'm great at posting Edit links instead of the actual link. What's wrong with me? D=
This channel is amazing, absolute goldmine when I came across if, so interesting (studying mechanical engineering myself) it's unbelievably interesting and very relaxing to watch
Oof, I felt quite dumb reading this comment. Didn't think of that. Thankfully, thorough examination with some magnetic viewing film revealed nothing is magnetized out of order. I'll keep it in mind for next time!
At the start of the video i wondered that why is that bearnaise there and have french done something terrible again... I was right! Damn baguettewielders broke this beautiful machine!
Hi, thank you for posting this - I’ve cleaned one or two of these, and it’s good to see someone else doing exactly the same things - and making the same mistake with the decimal markers - I’ve learned to leave them on the rail if I can...I also found that it’s easier to replace the rail while the cover is removed from the machine. I’m more liberal with the oil than you are, and do lots of back and forth wiggling to free things up. The sealed design of the Facit means that the machines are rarely absolutely filthy inside (compared with traditional pinwheel machines). I have a Facit NEA that had the same capacitor problem - I had the cover off when it started smoking! Like you, I just removed the capacitor from the circuit. By the way, the capacitor reduces RF by suppressing the sparks at the motor’s commutator, which also prolongs the life of the carbon brushes. Given that your calculator is unlikely to see heavy use, the increased rate of erosion of the brushes shouldn’t be an issue. I also have a Facit CA1-13, a later model which is functionally identical to your ESA-0. If only I’d seen this a couple of years ago...
Yep, as soon as you said it went boom, tripped the breaker, and let out smoke I had a feeling it was an old capacitor. The filter capacitors are quite risky on old electronic devices. They do this quite often now that they're really old. Send that capacitor to Shoenice and I'm sure he'll taste the electrolyte and eat the capacitor on video. :D
Fortunately they're resonably easy to replace. Unfortunately they have a tendency of failing into a dead short. :( I think it's the same problem on another calculator of mine, actually. Also haha, there's a youtuber for everything, isn't there? =D
1stSpyGuy Yep, right on both. :( It does seem like you have great help for repairing the issue though so you can keep these wonderful pieces churning away. Yes, Shoenice is a VERY interesting RUclipsr. :) He's more effective than my garbage disposal.
Great Video! I own a perfectly working ESA-0. Only the motor is not original. Someone built in a 220 volt instead of the 110 volt Electrolux motor. More than 2.200 parts inside that machine, wow! I am a Facit fan too.
Just an FYI -- that capacitor is NOT there just for RF suppression. It serves a few other important purposes and I would strongly recommend replacing it with a modern capacitor of the same rating and type. Over time, running it without the cap in place could cause damage to the AC motor.
That's very good to know! Thank you. :) I'm currently taking a class on electronics, so I hope to learn enough to be able to take care of the couple of electric issues I've been facing with a couple of the machines. :)
en estos día voy a comprar la misma maquina del mismo modelo de color verde. gracias a tus videos , espero tener suerte de poder repararlo ya que no está en un buen estado . saludos desde montevideo uruguay
I have a Facit Esa-0 that I am in the process of restoring. I am disassembling the machine in parts, but I have no knowledge of mechanics. My intention here is to show my machine so someone can help me ride again. I didn't find any material from this machine on the internet to give me an idea of where to start.
I really quite want a mechanical watch at some point. I've had my eye on a beautiful specimen, but it's a matter of cost at this point. A downside to most watches is that they can't beat the one I have, cosmetically or sentimentally, in my eyes. Plus, they're a fair bit less interactive than these machines.
Yeah, at the end of the video it was still having the clearing issue. =( I wanted to have that resolved before doing a coverage video on it. Turns out all it needed was time, so I'm working on the usage video atm.
Yes, maybe it was a bit too big in this one. I'll make it smaller in the next one, or maybe use text only. Thanks for your feedback! I'm learning by doing, so every bit helps. =) Sadly, the age of not watermarking videos is probably at an end - they keep getting stolen by other channels. =(

This puts the spring in my step. Welcome to the channel! =)
Your passion and compassion for these machines is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.
Yes! Another great ASMR video.
"Not killing you is a good feature in any device" bahahahahahah. Thank you for a long, quality video. Entertaining as always.
Hehe, glad you enjoyed it!
"like a silent storm"
I laughed so much when you said that 😂 excellent video, thanks for all the blood, sweat, and tears 👍
I got my own Esa-0 ive been working on. You have been invaluable to me 👍
the lord has delivered once again. 👌👌
Praise be. =D
your faithful audience demands yet another Calculator video!!!
I hope that your magnetic bowl doesn't end up magnetizing something that shouldn't be magnetized.

Thumbs up for "baguettewielders"!

Nej, vad roligt att höra det löste sig. =)
Vad var det som gått snett med maskinen, om jag får fråga?

Never thought I'd be fascinated by a calculator :^]
Same... and yet here we are.
I have to tell you...you now rule youtube. This was brilliant.

What an awesome mechanism! And quite dangerous too.
Oh yes. This thing is metal in all senses of the word.
Whats bearnaise?! Please say it's not mayonnaise made of bear...
@David Gill ewwwww

Your camera talking to was reminding me of AvE and you working talking so nice to it. I can't imagine you using the same "vocabulary" he does. lol

Man I miss you
I'll be back 😎 (after graduating this summer)

I just recently learned ratcheting screwdrivers existed in the 1800s
Oh my word! I laughed so hard at this one. You are quite the comedian!
Excellent machine & video!
Thank you!
incredible and interesting video
35:30 holy shit that's terrifying

Awesome video. I like your watch too.
Cheers! It's themed after one of my favourite movie series (James Bond).
1stSpyGuy dude if you are into mechanical calculators are you also into mechanical watches?
Nice one by they way
1stSpyGuy That's so cool. Also, I liked the longer videos. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you and have a great day.

Great video
Thanks! =)
Old calculator were harder to operate, let's FACIT.
You didn't even use it at the end :(
Yeah, at the end of the video it was still having the clearing issue. =(
I wanted to have that resolved before doing a coverage video on it. Turns out all it needed was time, so I'm working on the usage video atm.
Cool stuff
How many calculators do you have in your collection by now?
I think I have around 19 in my apartment, with another three or four in the basement.
1stSpyGuy That's swell! ;)
Ikea everything
i have same bellows!
aaahh your watermark cartoon is getting bigger and bigger every video you post. Please get rid of it, it is incredibly distracting
Yes, maybe it was a bit too big in this one. I'll make it smaller in the next one, or maybe use text only.
Thanks for your feedback! I'm learning by doing, so every bit helps. =)
Sadly, the age of not watermarking videos is probably at an end - they keep getting stolen by other channels. =(
that sounds like a great idea. love your videos btw, keep 'em coming!
