  • I decided to make a video "show and tell" about this camera from my collection - it still works but doesn't get used a whole lot.

    This popped up and I watched having bought it new in 2003. I still have it for posterity having used it for my kids growing up, dogs no longer here and so on. Back in the day, versus film, well, it helped boot film off the shelves big time. Seen in that light (pun intended) it took awesome pics. No one inspected the camera screen for DR, just knowing you framed it well and roughly looks OK was way out in front. The pictures from it now sit in the cloud and are displayed on my 4K big TV looking FINE. No one walks past and says do you mind if I zoom and pixel peep. This stuff was really just coming on stream at a time when most never got their kids on video (camcorder), not long before anyway. Great times and great memories from a time now in history and never to come back. Fashions come and go and tech changes..............It's now not relevant at all for 99.99% but in a pickle and see it for $15 and that's all you have it would work ................ Cheers

      Thanks James. This one is now having some mirror issues and might need some lubricant or something, but still shoots. I was thinking of getting back into shooting black and white film soon.

    If you shoot in RAW and post-process your pictures (I use SilkyPix) then this simple modest camera is still relevant today. Having a few much better cameras I still occasionally do photos using 300D, and the picture it gives is of good quality. And Canon's EF-S 18-55 mm IS STM is of surprisingly good quality for its price! Attached to 300D it gives fast autofocus, which you wouldn't expect in case of that old little thing.

      I was thinking about picking up a 10-18 or something for it. Maybe I will look at the 18-55 STM. Could do with a new battery too.

      @@jonbuder there are a few variants of that kit lens, which aren't exactly equal in their perfiormance. The one I tested having excellent results with 300D has a kind of "rectangular border" on its back (when you look at its optics) and it expands all the way from 18 mm until 55 mm -- while the other ones doesn't feature that "border" and they reach their minimal length when set to 35 mm. According to "A quick guide to the Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens" page it must be exactly the last, shorter (probably newest?) version shown in the table at the bottom.

      @@sosteve9113 it has rather simple firmware, but even if shooting in JPG it's easy to correct the image applying even single process from free GIMP program: I mean „Colors -> Auto -> White Balance” - just compare „before” and „after”.
      Of course image can be „polished” even further - but the above is an example you can improve it even not being aware, how it's actually done, with just a single operation.

    holaa, sabes si se puede hacer una doble exposición o una múltiple exposición con esta cámara??

    • @jonbuder
      @jonbuder  Месяц назад

      not in-camera, you have to combine exposures in post processing.

      You should be able to get an adapter for your phone to a USB port and connect the camera that way to get the pictures off. Or you could use a USB CF card reader. There is no WiFi or Bluetooth in this model camera.
