Mr. Bean you mean?

If one team can win game 5 from barca, this is Olympiakos. Παμε θρύλε!!!
Gavros is not a bad word , it’s a type of fish and the nickname of Oly fans. Oly fans embraced “Gavros” nickname even thought it started as an insult. How it started , you know already from the comments 3-4 different explanations
Olympiakos is the only team that can do this, and I hope to write history again..
PAO fans calls Oly's fans "GavroS" but a huge percentage of them don't know exactly why though.
This word originated from ancient Greek. The first "nickname" Panathinaikos fans made for Olympiakos fans is GavroN. In ancient Greek, GavroN (γαῦρον - γαῦρος) means Arrogant.
Olympiakos back then, had (and still has) more football championships than Panathinaikos so they were arrogant against Panathinaikos in their friendly discussions, although Panathinaikos had gone in the final of Champions League in 1971 against Ajax.
Back in the day there was not such a rivalry between the fans of those 2 teams. Fans from the opposing team would go and watch the derbies at the opposing team's stadium without any problem! To understand this better, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos fans were watching football matches together in the same bleachers.
In 1971 when Panathinaikos reached the final of Champions League the president of Olympiakos (Nikos Goulandris) gave prim to Panathinaikos players for that achievement!
So the "nicknames" back then were not so offensive as they tend to be nowdays.
Nowdays the GavroS nickname is mostly known as the precise translation of the fish Anchovy. Most of them don't understand why this is a bad word to call Olympiakos fans. Even Olympiakos fans calls each other like that, like its a cool word to say. Noone gets the diss.
On the other side, Olympiakos fans call Panathinaikos fans Vazelos. This word originated from Vaseline. Everyone believes that this nickname has an aggresive sexual meaning but again , they don't know how it started. Back in the day people used Vaseline for their hairstyles like a hair gel! It was something that only rich ppl would do. So Olympiakos fans gave the Vazelos nickname to make the point that Panathinaikos fans are rich people (high class), weak ass men, while they were the underground, hard working, tough, port men.
So
Gavros = Arrogant
Vazelos = Rich and Weak person which was to be disrespected in the city of Piraeus, where "only tough and strong men" were living their difficult lives. Back then they had a proud feeling because they were poor. Rich ppl tended to be corrupt and poor were good. That was the feeling
Χαχαχα Θεός...🔴⚪
Gavros means Brave in ancient Hellenic
Τα είπες όλα, σπαθιά να καταπιεις;
Very nice analysis and discussion. Cheers from Hellas, by an Olympiacos fan!
gavros is what other greek team fans call oly fans
We also call ourselves that way so not only other teams... We have many chants that have the word gavros inside
@@asoasotriadio It is mostly others
@@gamatoutsikos Others only call us like that basicaly while we call ourselves with many ways including gavros
Its really hard.😔
No team has ever qualified from game 5 with away disadvantage.
We will of course figth till the end.
Gavros is a type of fish that is very common. Olympiakos being a pireus team, hence the port, hence the fish
If olympiacos has good 3point % its going to be another win 10+ points. They are the better team. Series could have ended 3-0 or SHOULD have ended 3-1 in favor of olympiacos.
As many other friends here have already mentioned gavros (γαύρος) = anchovy = Engraulis encrasicolus (scientific name of European Anchovy) = ančiuvių (lithuanian) made as a pejorative term by Panathinaikos fans, and then other teams' fans, to refer to Olympiakos supporters. Maybe because Olympiacos is based in a port city, Piraeus, maybe to make a parallel with the fish being small and cheap to buy. Olympiacos fans then took it up and they also use it with pride to refer to themselves.
Now, some friends in the comments mention that the same word in ancient Greek meant "proud, brave". They are right. It is used often by Homer in the Iliad as an epithet to refer to the two greatest heroes of the epic, Achilles and Hector. Then this word meaning became more or less obsolete early on. But this meaning of proud/brave is not connected to the fish, anchovy. The name for anchovy in ancient Greek is engraulis (έγγραυλις) - which as you can see above it's used in the modern international scientific name for this species of fish. At some point throughout the centuries the name engraulis changed form (maybe became engraulos, graulos, gauros - έγγραυλος, γραύλος, γαύρος) to the present form "gavros" that we have been talking about.
I'm not a gavros myself, but I wish to Gavros to win game 5. They deserve it, they were wronged in game 3 by the refs and they have what it takes to achieve for the first time the historic feat of an away team winning game 5 in Euroleague playoffs.
Gávros = Γαύρος (European anchovy). It's what Olympiakos fans are being called in Greece. Legend says many years ago, Panathinaikos fans stole many fish boxes full of anchovy from Piraeus port, and brought them to Athens to display them as trophy before a game against Olympiakos.
και βαζελος ; βαζελινη στο κωλαρακι
Congrats for the good work guys! Oly will die hard as always
Gavros in Greek means anchovy, which refers to the fans of Oly Piraeus because of the port.
Ask nedovic and difala if it will a close game
Hello guys, i want to hear your thoughts about how brazdeikis is used by Bartzokas, and how it is possible for Laretzakis to be in front of Ignas in oly's rotation ?
They did it once. They can do it twice.
If the referees had been fair then there wouldn't be a 5th game. I hope that on Wednesday they will not be unfair and call against Olympiacos.
"Gavros" means "Brave" in ancient Hellenic language.
#EuroleagueMafia
Gavros is the name of a fish in Greek. Oly fans are called that in a negative way by other teams. I am not sure where the name came from but it is funny(Also Pao fans are called Bazelos and I dont know why)
Bazelos came from a liquid for pain relief in sensitive - irritated holes after game
Because Pao.fan base was elitist,.they used vaseline substance to comb their hair (rich people used it) and that's where it came from, since Olympiacos major fan base came from the working class (pier workers). I think...
Eyy Ritys is a gauros = a kind of fish in greece
Overtime and only will win
GAVROS if this is what you mean at the start of the vid is a fish. And because Piraeus is a Port and Olympiacos is a team of Piraeus the fans of PAOK, PAO and AEK are calling us GAVROS as a nickname.
Nope. Olympiacos fans are calling themselves like that. They would never call themselves a fish.
Gavros means proud in ancient Greek.
I support Olympiacos but now Barca has the advantage to advance…I hope you are right but it’s not like possible
Gavros is a way to call Olympiakos or an Olympiakos fan. It's not really demeaning since Olympiakos supporters are using it but it is slang. It's also the name of a small fish .
The blue shirt is real shit. Was against pao and olymp an now he is imparased
if the Olympian wants, the match is not closed at all! the euroleage mafia decided the fate of the match! normally barcelona should have lost all the games with a difference of thirty to forty points! because barcelona is a playground team
Gavros is a nickname of olympiacos fans it comes because olympiacos is in the port of peiraeus and there is a dish vayros
*fish
"gavros" is the anchovy fish. And Olympiakos fans name.
The logic says Olympiakos has small chance, but only if manage to keep the scoreline low (65-70 range)
Yeah gavros is a actually an insult,it refers to Oly fans
It's not
Since Olympiacos club is located near sea (in the port of Piraeus) their fans are derogatory called "gavros" which is a fish.
Επειδή είμαστε παρά πολλοί μας ονόμασαν έτσι όπως και οι γαύροι είναι τεράστια κοπάδια ψαριών
♟️
Gavros means proud in Ancient Greek. Kisses to the haters😘
No it means you're cheap and broke 😂😂😂😂.
Gavros (ΓΑΥΡΟΣ) means PROUD in ancient Greek, despite some bunnies (pao fans) say anchovy..
Vazelos (the one who uses vazeline, for obvious reasons) is the other nickname for pao fans, which are also called bunnies.
Α chant we say about them, first two verses.
_They are bunnies and hooligans with spay_
_but deep down they are all gay_
its like nickname for Olympiacos Fan. Gavros. For Panathinaikos fan we have the VAZELOS which means Vaseline. For obvious reasons!!! Hahaha. They are Soft and use to have origins from the Rich Neighbourhood of Athens.
The truth is that Athens is not a rich neighbourhood, quite the opposite I would say. Also true is that Oly fans find it hard to detect who their true father is since a lot of US marine force were having sex with women in a neighbourhood of Pireaus back in the years....
@@user-sm3yn8to4t
LOL, those sailors are probably your grandfathers since Olympiacos is your daddy.
@@user-sm3yn8to4t indeed it may be true that Athens isn't necessarily seen as a rich place. However the roots of the rivalry between the two teams is deep, and part of it is class warfare. Throughout the early history of the clubs, Olympiacos was seen as the club representing the primarily working class people of Piraeus and the southern suburbs, while Panathinaikos was seen as the club supported by the elite and aristocrats, usually found in the northern suburbs and city centre of Athens. This divide has since died down of course, but the names remain.
@@toast2300 My friend, what you describe was applicable only in the first few years of Oly existence. Over the last decades there is a clear DNA identity that has been established when we refer to someone as . We refer to a person that will not hesitate to use any (illegal/unethic) means in order to achieve his goal meaning in order to win. This DNA reflects many of the modern Greeks behaviour nowadays.
Gavros is a small fish.
This is how we make fun of Olympiakos fans
Gavros
A very cheap fish
Anchovy
so 6 seconds in an out of bounds play is not changing the outcome of the game? when we are wining by 2 points and the ball is ours after the out of bounds? and you say that the refs are not to blame and not the focus of the series when we were supposed to be on the f4 allready? ok guys gj on being objective and fair.........who cares if the refs cost us a f4 qualification..certainly not the fair and unprejudiced Lithuanian reporters.. gtfo for real...gj on being objective. At least if you were on the payroll from euroleauge we would understand it.. what is your excuse now..?sleep well at night..
Gavros its a small fish, kinda plain and cheap, nothing special in other words, just like Olympiakos team and fans.
