This is SO awesome!!! I love the Kukkiwon is allowing completion by people in larger bodies and endorsing the idea that TKD is for EVERY.ONE. I have long suspected now that my TKD school wasn’t WTF as they claimed back in 2008 and 2009 (they didn’t do taeguk forms [said they were ITF-wong], black belts were black belts no matter their age, the belt system was closer to karate than TKD, etc), but now I really know. I got to 4th degree brown belt and was told I would “probably” be able to get to 3rd brown, but 2nd red wasn’t going to be a possibility for me unless I got to a “proper proportion” of height to weight. They were literally judging by sight (not even the nonsense of the pseudoscientific BMI scale), it was literally aesthetics and what my teacher preferred. It was ridiculous because I could do everything that was required, I competed in tournaments and won several times, I was in class almost more than anyone else besides the teacher, but my weight was going to keep me from black belt. I always hoped a black belt might still be in my future somewhere, and this video certainly demonstrates that yeah, I can have big hips, and yeah maybe I have a layer of fat over my abs, but neither of those things have to stop me from becoming a black belt. Not all people are built the same, so not all black belts have to be built the same either. It’s about acquired skills and dedication. Thanks so much for this video, Kukkiwon!
Not all the sports fit all the physical abilities of people. Yes, one can practice them, but TKD is a martial art and being out of shape will show in case one needs to defend oneself.
Yes, tkd IS for EVERY BODY. Not all bodies will be able to do all the things, but if yours was able/can do all the things for the next belt level and you have the right attitude, you should have been promoted. I'm sorry you had that experience. It's never too late to come back!
@@maximuscosmos5545 there is a big difference between being out of shape and not being skinny. I’m not skinny. I run 10Ks, I lift heavy. I’m the one coming up with and killing all of the agility challenges, etc. Body composition has nothing to do with being in shape. My cardio fitness, endurance, and athleticism are better than most people my age of ANY size. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
@@megannelson5597 thanks. Luckily I had good friends at the school that were saying that made no sense because I knew the techniques well enough to be first or second in my rank depending on the technique, and I had the best tournament record in my rank by far.
Just the lady #902 has some style. The others are no good. There should be some sort of physical requirements for being a black belt, some of the people in this video are not in shape.
Part of the Kukkion black belt test for each dan is the endurance test -1000 jumping jacks, 500 front snap kicks, 500 roundhouse kicks, 500 back kicks, 500 spinning heel kicks, 500 situps, and 250 pushups. All in less than 4 hours over 2 days .

It's really not for everyone. If you have bad knees tkd doesn't help.
