- The biggest problem with owning a Range Rover / Land Rover... Fixing one!
Here I tackle a common issue with the L322 and similar era Land Rovers, where the transmissions eventually fail. This may be relevant to you if a simple fluid check/change doesn't solve erratic shifting, fluctuating revs or the dreaded 'Transmission failsafe'
Full cost of parts £560 (a fraction of what it would cost at a garage/dealer)
Included in the video:
Transfer box, Transmission and Torque converter removal
Splitting a ZF 6HP26 (and similar) Transmission to replace:
-Sump/Filter
-Mechatronic Sleeves/Bridge seal/Adaptor
-Mechatronic TCU (Transmission control unit)
Refilling the transmission
Although this guide is based on a 2007 TDV8 with a ZF 6HP26, most of the guide will also apply to the 4.2 supercharged, 4.4 AJV8, most likely the sport/discovery TDV6 and will probably be relevant to the newer 4.4 TDV8, 5.0 SC and the older BMW based 4.4 V8 & TD6 with the ZF 5HP & GM transmissions.
I don't claim to be a mechanic or specialist, if you don't feel competent enough to carry out this job then probably don't, overall it's actually rather simple providing you hold an ounce of common sense (I somehow managed it) but if you mess it up then I won't be taking responsibility.
Follow the channel for plenty of more future L322 content!
Great video mate! I'm new to the L322 world but very competent on the tools, your videos are perfect for fellow DIYers with this platform! Keep up the great work!
If you ever want to do a video like this doing turbo replacement I'm sure that would go down a storm! Cheers! Subscribed!
Thank you very much! Sadly, I sold that l322 when I purchased my 4.4 TDV8 so don't think I'll be making any turbo videos for a while (I hope) But thought the transmission video would be a great idea as there is little to no information online and is actually a simple but heavy job!
There's lots more L322 videos on the channel and plenty more to come!
@@RoughRestos Thank you for the great video. I own a L322 TDV8, and unfortunately the coolant mixed with the transmission fluids... is this something you can share a fix?
Nice work mate. I'm ripping out my transfer box next week due to a leaking input seal.
The solenoids are the same. It's just the colours fade/change colour with age and heat. You can tell the new transmission are fresher. If you have any issues fresh seals like you have done, and new solenoids are the first items to replace. Look after the mechatronics which will, in turn, look after the mechanicals in the transmission.
Keep the video coming mate. You make Range Rover ownership more of a joy with your content.
Thanks mate, handy bit of advice there :)
Excellent work young man! Thanks for the video, that was put together very well. It was great to see how pleased you were with a job well done!
Awesome job mate. Very jealous of your garage set up. I'm thinking of getting an L322 but I will be crawling around on my driveway in high winds and rain doing this! Wish me luck :)
Thank you, yeah I can't imagine doing that job in the weather we have had, the sun wouldn't be bad :)
Love the axle stands - I suffer minor terror at putting my '94 LSE up on my 2-post lift, even though the lift is rated to 4000Kg. But it makes work insanely easy on the RRC sometimes.
This is why i made the stands, lift is only rated at 2.5t so i built the stands for my 1990 Vogue SE, since bought L322's where they are needed more than ever.
Don't think i'd be under it without them
Good video man thanks
Thank you
I'm doing up a project in Zimbabwe
Got a body with nice interior and no engine or gearbox
Intend buying engine and gearbox second hand in the UK where I currently live
Got a decent mechanic who is my cousin
Is it doable
Thanks
Ofcourse
Hello, great video. Can I ask if you accessed the flex plate bolts through the starter opening? I'm tackling the job this afternoon! Yay! :-D
I did yes, disconnected the starter and moved it out the way
@@RoughRestos anamzing, thank you very much.
@@CanisTraining there a real joy removing aren't they, with my big hands I had zero room, putting them back in and lining it up will be better even
Is the gearbox the same as the transmission oil pump? Is the transfer case the same as gear box and transmission pump
I'm trying to replace the transmission oil change
I don’t suppose you noticed what code the separator plate on the valve body was? A052?
I didn't sorry
What is that seal kit you bought? I need one?
If you jump on ebay and search ZF6HP26 seal kit, you'll find the seals
Thumbs up. Looking to do this.
Also: get a tripod 😅
Half the video was filmed on a tripod ;)
@@RoughRestos yeh sorry. Commented to early 🙈 my l322 broke down again.
Excellent what diagnostics do you use
Thank you, the GAP IID
Does this apply to my l322 2010 3.6 tdv8 gearbox sometimes goes on fault and cant go over 4th gear will that need change gear box and if i do will need coded for the new gearbox . Cheers
Replacing would be the easiest. you'll either have to code it or swap the tcu as explained in the video
I’d like to know what parts I need to order please :)
Depends on what parts you plan on doing, at minimum 10l of lifeguard 6 transmission fluid and a sump/filter
@@RoughRestos really…. I want to do full rebuild. But god I need to get my injectors sorted first. Can’t afford brand new, but currently getting by on used ones. TDV8 3.6 here
Will you be able to do this job for me? i have P0735 code
Sorry, I don't really get involved with fixing them, Just personal bits and jobs for friends
I must be showing my age, I find you talk too fast for me sometimes.
Sorry, I do talk rather fast
