That sound your yoyo makes when you catch is soooo satisfying, especially that red responsive one you use
the two things i found most helpful to land the second hop was a (1) after you land the 1st pop, make a deep pocket with your TH and NTH close to each other about 2 in apart (from pinkie to thumb). Hands too far apart makes it hard on the crossoover for the triangle to appear in time to catch the chop-drop on middle string; (2) pop it slow, gentle, and up straight. Good form and straight planes are imperative to hit this trick consistently. Sloppy or tired form ends up it knots.
Oof, this is a tough trick. I spent the better part of the week untying knots trying to land that second hop! In addition to the video, there's some great tips in these comments, particularly about form that really helped me. For anyone still having trouble, I found performing the trick closer to my body (stomach/chest) help get my hands into the right position more consistently. Additionally, try a couple throws where you just don't pay attention to how the yoyo falls (intentionally missing it) and focus exclusively on whether or not you're getting your hands into the right position. I found that I was forming the configuration right, but my yoyo-hand wasn't orienting the triangle upward in the way it. I started hitting it as soon as I corrected this. Anyway, hope it helps someone! Thank @YoTricks for another great tutorial!
Finally able to hit this with some consistency. Getting the yo-yo through that stupid triangle is an incredible feeling.

When doing the first hop instead of double rolling on the wrist mount strings can't I just roll once cus I did that and the trick worked perfectly

If it comes down to the DV888 or the DM2, since you already know how to bind I would go with the DV888.
Hi.ive been trying to get this trick for over a week now and keep messing up on the fist hop. I toss the yoyo up and cross my hands quickly and miss. Im trying to watch it carefully which string i need to land on but still cant land it,and i keep my hands straight when i cross.how can i land this more accurate? I can land it once in a while but want to master the first pop before moving ro the second hop?
I use concave bearings to avoid this although I have been throwing a few flat bearings recently and not really had the problem. I think an improved throw can also counter the problem.
really hard trick but im getting there just a little issue on my second jump when i cross my arms and form my triangle its either to small or it lands on the outer string of the triangle ive managed to figure out my issue there but im still having a problem of landing it onto the 2nd wrist mount to finish so im dedicating my day to this because i want (need) to step up a level

Just out of curiosity what is your opinion on the Yoyo officer yoyos such as the yoyo officer aura or have you ever used one? I've been wanting to upgrade to a more advanced level yoyo and I was first thinking about the dark magic II but though about the dv888... atm I think I am settled on the aura but I want a second opinion. love your vids btw ;p
The specs for this yoyo are posted on the Kickstarter campaign for the Civility yoyo in the FAQ at the bottom of the page. The bearing is quite in this yoyo because it is lubed.
Yeah I didn't know much about yoyos when I said that. Concave or center track bearings can solve the problem. A very good throw can counter it to an extent.
I have not used those officer yoyos, but I know you can't go wrong with either the Dark Magic 2 or the DV888. Are you already able to bind?

I think I landed the trick but I'm not sure. After the second pop I'm consistently going back into a perfect wrist mount but I'm more rolling it over my hand. Does the pop need to be exaggerated? and if I'm back in wrist mount is that concrete evidence I did the second pop properly?

After 2 days of solely practicing this, it finally clicked. The 2nd hop was tricky! But now that I understand what goes on with it, some tips I have for landing the trick and especially tricky 2nd hop:
1. If you're watching this, most likely you're a beginner/intermediate like me. I now realize the trick is much easier executed with a longer string. I have been using the "belly button to slightly above the floor" string length for a long time and only recently tried using longer strings. What the longer string does for this trick is both hops are much easier to execute:
- 1st hop, longer string doesn't snag so easily and has more wiggle room for the yoyo to pop upwards and land back down.
- 2nd hop, longer string will give you a bigger and longer triangle for the yoyo to land back down on that middle string.
2. After the 1st hop and just before you pop it upwards for 2nd hop, someone said this in a comment above as well, keep both your hands closer towards the middle which leaves the yoyo hanging lower. Pop that yoyo up high and wait for it to go upwards past your throw hand and then push the string with your index finger (as seen in tutorial at 2:10) . This all comes with muscle memory after some practice.
3. As you're uncrossing your hands for the 2nd hop to land back down, make sure your Throw Hand has the back string behind your TH thumb so that it pulls the triangle into a good size for the yoyo to land through it(as seen in tutorial at 2:12). I still fumble and miss this at times which causes the triangle not to "open up" enough for the yoyo to land.

If you like the shape of the Whip the Grind Machine is similar but larger and plays much better than the Whip. I also like the Flipside yoyo quite a bit. It comes with a Konkave bearing and it is just $20. We have both on the YoTricks website.
Is the grind machine a good yoyo for learning this trick
I have the dm2 and the string that wraps around the bearing is not in the middle and it is rubing agenst the yoyo and slowing it down should I get a center track bearing
It is on our list of tricks to teach eventually, but I am not sure how soon we will get to it.
Can all the slack (Follow, Lord of the Flies etc), long (Spirit Bomb, And Whut etc) and horizontal tricks be done easily on the YYF Northstar??

I can perform all the elements of spirit bomb except for the dismount, i can dismount a normal wristmount but for some reason when i dismount from spirit bomb in the same way i get a knot in my string. do you know why this could be?
It is hard to say, but if I had to guess I am thinking that at some point when you are doing the hops in the trick you are either landing on the wrong string, or going in front or behind the wrong string. Hmmm... that doesn't seem too helpful... could you upload a video so I could see what is happening?
not sure if this changes anything but im left handed so would I twist fingers toward me or away from me for the dismount?

I have noticed if your string is too short, the first hop doesnt work. I beat myself up over that first hop for so long till i accidentally tried with a string that is a little longer than what i was cutting up.
How do you get the triangle to open up so much? I've been practicing this trick relentlessly for the past week and a half and gotten no-where (I quit yoyoing 2/3 years ago because I got too frustrated with this trick :P). I've popped the yoyo as high as I could but 2 things happen, 1)the yoyo goes to the left making it difficult to aim and 2) the triangle barely opens up. Any tips/advice?
davidiv123 The key for me when I learned it is uncross your hands when the yoyo reaches its peak, and to swipe across kind of low. That seems to hit the string in just the right place to open up the triangle.

It does, and it is very smooth.
I have not tried the new Superstar yet, unfortunately. It is always difficult with new designs to know how well they tuned out. Hopefully it is awesome. Of course, I love the Genesis with Hubstacks!

Done! Put my throw down for an hour, then came back to it less frustrated & I've pretty much nailed it now. Just need to smooth it out a little. :)

The only other tug response metal yoyo I know of in that price range is the Maverick, although I am not sure it is heavier than the Metal Drifter.

It can.
It would be pretty difficult on a Velocity, but it can be done.
How do you make it look so nice on that last hop i can get it in the middle and when i go to put it back into a wrist mount. The wrist mount has an extra string on it and it ends in a knot
vinny cantoni Have you taken a look at the slomo shots at the end? As long as the yoyo is passing through the right areas you should avoid any knots. I think we give some tips on that second hop through the video, that might help as well. Getting that triangle to open up was the key for me.

i just don't get the second hop , is there a trick to make the triangle open and make sure that string is underneath . evey time i pup it up i lands on any other string but the one underneath and i notice even when i get the triangle open the string under is always towards me and not under the triangle , pls help

hey yo tricks im having problems with the first hop.when i try to hop it up,it wont go up as in when it hits the top string,it wont go up and im not sure why it wont work

Hi I lubed my bearing he way you guys taught me how and my bearing still sounds the same. It is a brand new concave bearing so I don't get the problem. When I first got it it was silent now it makes noise no matter how much I lube it. Please help!!!! Thank you.
+anthony pena The noise a bearing makes has no effect on how it plays. Sometimes lubing will reduce noise, other times it won't.
But you guys said that when it makes a higher pitched noise and sounds a bit gritty I should lube it and now it always sound a like that.
+anthony pena If your bearing is responsive, then you may need to clean it. Otherwise, you should be fine. You can always try adding a bit more lube if you are concerned.

Yeah I can bind.. I already have a couple yoyos that play unresponsive... You may want to try looking into a yoyoofficer yoyo not like you need to with the civility but I hear they are pretty dang good for the price they are. Anyway thanks for responding, keep up the good work.

Adam Laithwaite The Phenom is much faster than the Civility, and a little bit more narrow (if memory serves). The Civility is much better for grinds, is more forgiving when learning new tricks, and I believe superior when learning off axis. (I only say "I believe" because I do not have much experience doing off-axis tricks with the Phenom). While it is difficult to say if any one player would prefer one over the other, I can tell you that the Civility is pretty much on the opposite side of the yoyo spectrum compared to the Phenom.

One way to put it would be to say that if there were 6 theoretical qualities that make a high end yoyo great, both yoyos would have the 3 opposite qualities.

I tried everything to land this trick... I even tried to dot he wrist mount with the bottom string between pinkie and ring finger, and i nearly found it helpful...

The second hop is the difficult part of this trick. I suggest you pause the video around 1:20 and see how the strings are wrapped around my wrist and hands, and take a look at how I am holding my hands. Perhaps you need to make an little adjustment to how you are interacting with the string. It is hard to say. This is a pretty challenging move, though, so if it takes a while to figure out that is totally normal.
We are currently working out a good way to teach those tricks. As soon as it is ready we will start making videos.
When is horizontal tricks coming its summer now
We only release videos when we are satisfied with the results, and often, for us to be happy with our videos, they take longer than expected. Hopefully we can finish them soon.
when you do the first hope. hope the yoyo HIGH UP and then cross your hands its way easier

+xX TheHoodedUltramate Xx I'm not exactly sure what the problem may be with your technique, but have you tried using a longer string. That may open the gap in the strings a little wider while you practice so you can get the yoyo through.

That sounds right... if you sand the axle... which you don't need to do.

Whichever trick looks more interesting to you. The two tricks are not related in any way, so it really doesn't matter which one you learn first.
