The worst thing about Battlefield 2042 is that they prematurely ended Battlefield V’s cycle right as the game was turning a corner and getting good and we never got an Eastern Front expansion

Hell black ops 4 was even more disappointing imo but atleast that game works and I'd rate it better than this game despite it having bullshit supply drops and cases. Bf 2042 is a mistake. There should be a law that prevents games having their own "currency" for in game purchases and mandate that the purchases are listed at their actual dollar (or whatever the local currency is) value. The fake currency is purely to trick your brain into dissasoiciating the payment of money on the actual microtransactions by using it as a proxy, and I feel like its a step in the right direction to remove that cognitave manipulation even if they aren't banned outright immediately because that would be too hard to do strait up

The Deathloop rating controversy is pretty simple thing to explain. IGN needed a game to give out a 10/10 award to maintain their "unbias" rating system. They take a unique game concept and throw it in people's faces saying "See? We do rate story games! This is a fresh and unique idea. Not stop questioning us why we rate Madden so high every year..."

B4B was just fucking awful. Boring and awful looking guns and sounds, zombies seemed all the same and had zero facial expressions to them, the different types of infected you could play seemed very similiar too each other and each of them lacked personality unlike the ones in L4D 1&2. Left 4 Dead did everything better.

Not bad and I had fun. But it was really not that different than other vr game. Expect it was more polished and looked better. But I would never go so far as to call it next level. It felt like more of the same to me.
I've never been dissapointed in my gaming life as I was with BF2042. Been a BF player since BF42 so it really hurt. They just can't fix this turd called BF2042. They've broken the core battlefield experience so badly they can't deliver what the vast majority of fans want unless they completely redo the game. Bring back the class system, get rid of specialists, more weapons, better maps, gritty futuristic atmosphere, a solid campaign to give the multiplayer context, and no goofy bullshit.

@@cyanide7270 you make a valid point, but IMHO Vanguard, although bad, still played like COD, but BF2042 was not BF anymore (no classes, bland environments, etc.) and hence I spent more time playing Vanguard, even the campaign. BF2042 going F2P in some form or another says it all.

I went from being extremely excited for BF2042 to uninstalling the game after only a few days, it truly was a disappointment beyond any other this year. They really need to reassess the battlefield franchise and remember why people liked it in the first place

I played the Medium and really liked it. But I totally understand why it's here. There's no tension, it's not scary, honestly the story kept me engaged but it's only going to appeal to those like me who enjoy VERY narrative heavy games. It did need more in it (enemies primarily)
Exactly, it's VERY niche game. I liked it too, but still wasn't fan of static camera. It was more creepy because of its themes and story, and not because it's scary and tense. You can like something and still agree with others critique (hell, I love Cyberpunk 2077).
Yeah, me too Kinda, because i remember the only thing that kept me playing the game was the heavy toned narrative, BUT It still a damn shame that they had Akira Yamaoka on the project ans the OST is not even close to any work hes done before.....and i still wanted more tension and some scary enemies, and less splitscreens.

You know what Joe, do you know the BEST thing about the last 2 years of gaming ? Between the GPU scalpers, poor game quality, Lack of available consoles etc...I went and bought myself a canoe. I have rediscovered that outdoor activities are great. I started to fish again, swim more, explore rivers in my area. I have been a shut in for so damn long I forgot the world was out there waiting for me. I still play on occasion of course. I mean I built a rig with an AMD 2700X and a 6700XT so I need to get my money back, but outside is free and wonderful. It's been so annoying to be a PC gamer for so long, fiscally as well as the sad state of gaming I actually have a tan now!
Love the outdoors too. The cost of gaming is just getting ridiculous, specifically graphics cards (CPU prices have increased as well but to a much lesser extent). $2,800 - $3,500 for a flagship GPU is just nuts, I bought my old 7970 for $480. I don't need to spend that kind of money to get half-baked Ray-Tracing, I can get a much better version in real life.

Literally all the Triple A FPS games released this year fell short. Vanguard was the 'same shit different year,' 2042 was a lazy and broken disaster, and Halo Infinite could've been a 10/10 had it released with more content.
I'm still a little sad over it tbh. Battlefield is something I've held close to my heart since 2010 and BF3 is one of my favorite games ever. Just hearing the "cheeky" little post-game lines in 2042 makes me want to vom.
Somewhere along the way they completely forgot they are a niche game with a very loyal fanbase. It's frankly astounding; almost as if none of the devs ever played a Battlefield game.

The last two games i was truly hyped for besides god of war for pc was cyperpunk and Bf2042. God of war and red dead is the last two games that i really enjoyed.
Really is a damn shame with the Scavengers game. Seeing that footage of hundreds of players on a single consistent map/server was a marvel. I really hope that the technology used for that game becomes more mainstream - so many games and genres would be made so much better with that kind of server technology. Imagine MMOs with servers that could hold thousands of players at once, or Battlefield-like FPS games with huge maps you can run and fly through. Hell, Scavengers could've stood out in the Battle Royale genre if they went all-out with the technology and had matches with 1000+ players in them, with massive 50-100 member squads, creating this chaotic war for dominance in a large map. There's a lot of potential with this kind of server technology, and it would be a crying shame for it to go unutilized. And yeah, fully agree with Back 4 Blood. I was looking forward to it ever since it got announced, and I was bummed out when I actually played it and realized how bad it was. At the same time though, had I not played that with a group of friends, I wouldn't have discovered the far better versions of it - World War Z Aftermath and Vermintide 2 (can't wait for Darktide to come out, speaking of which)

Man i've been telling my friends this for a while now. Honestly since 2017 the video game industry has been on a massive decline apart from Nintendo. Been looking at some "best games of the decade" lists and most of them have like 4-6 non-indie non-nintendo games that were made 2017 - 2020.
What's even sadder is that video games have been slowly degrading over the years and this whole covid thing gave them the perfect excuse to drop the ball. I can make these games at home and still communicate and collaborate effectively with a team. They can't make these flimsy excuses all the time. Interesting, engaging, intuitive and creative gameplay mechanics just don't exist much anymore. My wallet has been more full than it's ever been since I stopped buying games.
I never listen to any of these journalists, I rely on the reviewers like Joe who actually are honest and put effort into their work. Thank you Joe for being there for the gamers.

Well tbf Joe can be very biased on certain game, movies and tv shows He doesn't always have the right judgement and most of the time has poor taste in what he calls "entertainment" While other Joe and Alex are always honest and say it as it is especially Alex he's blunt and honest... If a game for example has issues or pacing problems he will shred the game and I like that.

Letting you know, I really think this video was constructive a lot for me. It shows why checking videos about a game and multiple reviews is important and how much a product can evolve with different structure of support behind it! This is great work here! For dev and player, this is a must watch. it was fair on these 10 games.
For me it was Fallout 76 that taught me never to preorder or buy without getting reviews I trust. AngryJoe is one of them. He, OJ and Alex call it how they see it and often amuse me at the same time. As an added precaution as to why I never preorder or buy on release day and wait for trusted reviews, I actually look for actual gameplay footage. Perhaps 10-20 minutes of someone doing a “let’s play.” My safety method has saved me from several terrible games I might have otherwise bought. Anthem, Cyberpunk 2077 and possibly New World. The latter is a maybe though because I still play FO76 on and off and FF14 has been my MMO home for almost a year now.
The good thing about the disappointments list, is that it mostly serves as a good reminder to me on all of the mediocre releases that I absolutely forgot about a second after they came out

The reviews and Game of the Year chosen by Activist Journalist are not all what it's hype up to be. The true review ratings and Game of the year lies with the gamer's personal preference and experience.
I felt that shit in my chest when he walked off saying "fuckin battlefield!". Dice and EA killed an enormous franchise to chase trendy nonsense. 2042 is not worth even saving and now we likely will not see another Battlefield for years, if ever. Devastating.

The fact that we have so much to say as consumers and we can have such a big impact on gaming as a whole, is very important. I think the opposite is true in the sense that companies underestimates how big of an impact gamers can have. Actors had to create the me2 campaign, but us gamers changed a whole gaming company (Blizzard) and got it sold, in less than a year. It shows we're heading in the right direction as an entertainment media, even if the currently released games aren't that exciting.

When I first saw trailer I wouldn't say I was that much hyped but it got my attention despite that "I've seen this somewhere already" vibe. Much like BF2042 famous rendezook scene- I knew it was impossible to have it in the game as an intended feature but still looked cool as a little devs wink towards playerbase. Returnal was far better in literally any aspect. Mooncrash used the same mechanic, was done by the same studio and did it better. 4 years ago. Hell- even Dishonored did this far, far beter. But hey, they didn't pay to be forced into first place so not many people were hearing about them in the first place. And they definitely haven't had this lying YT asshole celebrities about how this game is soooo innovative, unique and "oh my god first time I've seen it I framed it as a one-trick pony ooooh how big mistake did I make, now I know please forgive me for accusing this masterpiece of being bad". Battlefield 2042 was hands down my most disappointing game of 2021. I’m glad I’d played the beta test,because that prevented me from outright buying it. The problem isn’t that its broken state on release day (heck that is almost tradition with the BF franchise by now…), but that “it’s trying to be everything but a Battlefield game,” like you said.
That Orbital map in the beta alone put me off from playing the game. The map is too damn big with a lot of empty spaces between the capture points. You just end up running aimlessly across the map most of the time. And don't get me started with the specialists system.
What's crazier was that the die hard fans kept saying, "Oh its just the beta! Don't judge it so soon! The real game is gonna be WAAY better!" No! That was the game!
They just released a shitty shotgun skin that looks like something straight out of Apex. Battlefield is officially dead because EA and Dice are fucking clueless
Imagine the spatialos tech in a Total War type game but instead of the top down commander gameplay, you actually play as a soldier on one side of the war. That would be pretty amazing. Hopefully when that studio closes down, a company that will actual make good use out of that tech, will buy it.

I bought a bunch of games, but all released years ago. 2021 proves to be underwhelming when It Takes Two is the GotY. It's a good game and deserved it for 2021, but is miles off compared to previous year's GotY. And then we have disappointments after disappointments in an already barren gaming year.
You're my go to reviewer for any game you cover. The only review I've ever disagreed with is Dying Light, which I feel is a masterpiece. But other than that. Your reviews are the tough love this industry needs when all we do is accept scams, mediocrity, and theft instead of good games.

@@warfare1101 Village was the best game for me. Even though 'It takes two' is considered to be the best, I can't play it because I have no one to play it with. Village feels next gen, even on my Xbox One X 4k 30fps I was blown away by the game.
There were plenty of good games this year, the bad games just get overly focused on because of social media. People spend more time talking about games online then actually playing the games.
It's really sad Joe that we gamers must come to grips with the fact that these are indeed the Dark Ages of the video game industry. I don't know if or when we might return to the golden era a decade ago. With hyper monetization of content, live service garbage and industry standards taking a shit. Industry standards have been horribly low for many decades now. The ratio of good games against bad games has always been heavily skewed toward bad games, the thing is that bad games are eventually forgotten (except for an handful of exceptions). So yes, there hasn't been any goden era of gaming since every decade has had a ton of bad shit, each with their own flavor of bad.

But the voice acting is awful/awkward, the plot got more nonsensical than RE is known for getting, and everything from the game was taken from other successful franchises. I couldn't tell if RE8 was a love letter to horror media or just straight up copied it. Guessing the latter. But, I guess all it takes to impress the causal gamer is flashy gameplay and a tall granny with tits. The devs definitely deserve the praise, though.
Can we all agree that the gaming industry needs a overhaul. Overhyped unfinished, broken , and full of microtransactions are all things that take advantage of buyers. And I feel it will only get worse
Changes in the industry can only occur if the consumer wants it. People should stop giving in to the hype and stop preordering games. Game companies don't care about the quality of their products as long as people keep blindly buying them.
The fact of the matter is; it won't. Because "gamers" keep buying into this shit, because the mainstream is full of dumb sheep. Gaming is moving closer and closer to digital only and by that point most, if not all, AAA games will be live serviced. And the majority will continue to buy into it because they are told it's convenient and what's best and they'll believe it. At least Asia is still keeping true to the real spirit of gaming, along with indie studios. That's silently been happening. A lot of the big AAA studios have been loosing talent because they only care about profits. 2021 wasn't devoid of good games, it's just that all of them were from smaller / indie studios.

@@giglioflex the whole all the good games came from small studios is so massively false. i get it is an opinion thing but it is still very incorrect, unless your definition of a small studio is very different than a normal person. capcom (village) isn't small, insomniac (ratchet and clank) isn't small, square enix (guardians of the galaxy) isn't small, and a lot of other massively popular games were backed by larger companies (deathloop, returnal, etc.). there are plenty of good indies out there but they were not even close to the only game in town.
You know another the problem I have with "Shiny Blue"? I don't even play any of the games in that genre and I am the worst penny-pincer on the planet. But... I actually have a weak spot for that blue with an Aurora Borealis effect. As someone in the creative field myself this makes my heart cry even more about this whole topic, because I know their artists know what they are doing. It's a game with a nature-based, muddy, earth-tones-filled ecstatic. Of course people would want it! That skin stands out the most.
The sad part is that Battlefield 2042 could have been one of the best things ever with Portal mode. It sucks how limited Portal is compared to what could have been. Just imagine: Wake Island, but with Bf 2142 Titans, Bf2 artillery and Bf 3 choppers and WW2 planes launched from the titans. How awesome would that be? If you ask me they should drop everything and double down on Portal, adding more shit and enable players to mix it up more with what the players want, from weapons and weapon mods of all different games and vehicles all able to be chosen seperately. Also more maps. But they won't do that because they probably don't even realize the full potential Portal has, and furthermore they need to work on fixing the still broken-ass game for the next year and a half, and they when it reaches a point where it's actually playable they'll just abandon it as another failed project just like Battlefield V.
I can understand that. I’d hate to see a franchise I loved wind up like this. For me it’s the Fallout franchise. I don’t know why, but I love it with every fibre of my being.
@@Stefanbf2 it's basically a sandbox mode where you can create your own servers with maps and assets from old Battlefield games. So far I think they included Bf 1942, Bf3 and at least one more game (BF4 I think), also BF 2042 itself; you can also set rules for the teams I think, though I don't know how exactly that works. the idea is that the community can come up with fun and interesting game modes. I think even crazy stuff like 30 vs. 2 but the 30 only have knives is possible, but I think you can only pick one set of troops for each team. I'd like to see more variation possibilities, like give me WW2 soldiers but let them have BF3 assault rifles, stuff like that. So far Portal is only infamous for to things, one is that people abused it to farm XP to unlock weapons, which let to Dice completely disabling XP progress in Portal, and the other one is that it lets you play the older Battlefields in BF 2042, which just makes the point that the older Battlefields are more desirable and better than 2042.
Deathloop was such a letdown, and I'm glad to see more people are coming forward and acknowledging it was far from a masterpiece. When I finished it, my immediate thought was "...people gave this is a 10/10?" It's a 6/10 for me only because I love the banter between Colt and Julianna.
People only praised it because it has 2 black leads. Places like IGN will literally only give high praise to shit that woke. Soon as I seen all the perfect scores I knew it wasn't genuine

Battlefield 2042 was most dissapointing for me... Even aside from the bugs, it is just boring running across these huge maps - they just made them too big. And the future is in shipping containers - shipping containers everywhere. Shipping dock = containers (we'll let that one go) but then.. Ice map = containers. Sand map = containers. Grass land = containers. Surface of the sun = containers. Black hole = containers... aagghh. Thought i would play 2042 for year but i could only persevere a few weeks...

Price is too much like rambo. Has his moments but overdoes it. The others die. I feel detached from characters that just end up dying no matter what you do. Keep in mind RECENT COD games are the ones lacking more character. Older ones have some characters that stand out. Like Sandman. A good example of a "price" like character yet also installing a sense of loss without the player dying. While at the same time getting people out alive and doing a mission. Edit: Fun fact. Price himself was like Sandman at first in the original/first COD.
Outriders was a real shame, I ended up enjoying it for the most part and even got all the achievements but that game could have been so much more. Watching it back on here the frustration just came flooding back with the broken servers/disconnects etc. The constant fear that I could get disconnected at any second during a difficult fight or even worse just before the end of the bullshit timed runs that unlocked once the story was completed was more ptsd inducing than any horror game I’ve ever played lol.
I enjoyed the campaign of it. Didn't really bother with the post game stuff. The server issues were unforgiveable. Don't force an always online server connection into the single player campaign and then not have your servers work. It's pretty basic.
Outriders is the only game I disagree with on this list. The combat is great, the builds are amazing it was a fun experience and really good gameplay loops. It's fair he didn't like it based on all the crashes but the game was good.

@@TheotherTempestfox A couple of weeks is a bit of a stretch, Logon issues were a few days and after that I had 1 crash at the spider boss. What I'm saying is I appreciate he downvotes the game for those issues no excuse for server issues on a campaign game. But the game itself was decent and had good ability combos and skill sets which he states the game did poorly.
I love how 9/10 most disappointing games are multiplayer or multiplayer modes. Did some executive dumbass said that single player games were dead and they would only invest on multiplayer? Good job. You made great products this year. Again.
So in summary we are in a really low point for the industry where extremely tired IPs are being constantly churned out with no soul and designed solely around being jam packed with aggressive expensive microtransactions. Feels bad man.
I had the privilege of playing pretty much most of the games nominated for GOTY at the Game Awards this last year. And I completely agree Joe, Death Loop is not what critics say it is, and probably shouldn't have been there period. I personally did like the Medium. And I would give it a solid like 7.5/10 or 7/10, it was quite good. But I found just some weird bugs here and there honestly. Like when I would be running away from a monster or something, I'd suddenly stop sometimes? But still worth more of a play then Death Loop.
@Dale Macarena not everyone can play any game at any time. Consoles in my country, for example, are very very expensive, like 2 to 3 months of minimum wage (PS4 and Xbox one, for PS5 is a about 5 months). Games are also expensive, about 1/3 of minimum wage, in a country where most people make minimum or less than this. Not trying to problematize the question, just an attempt on giving another perspective

There should be a law that prevents games having their own "currency" for in game purchases and mandate that the purchases are listed at their actual dollar (or whatever the local currency is) value. The fake currency is purely to trick your brain into dissasoiciating the payment of money on the actual microtransactions by using it as a proxy, and I feel like its a step in the right direction to remove that cognitave manipulation even if they aren't banned outright immediately because that would be too hard to do strait up
that's actually a really simple and effective first step for making it less toxic. But i still think we need to get rid of it but maybe that's already to late.

The Deathloop rating controversy is pretty simple thing to explain. IGN needed a game to give out a 10/10 award to maintain their "unbias" rating system. They take a unique game concept and throw it in people's faces saying "See? We do rate story games! This is a fresh and unique idea. Not stop questioning us why we rate Madden so high every year..."

B4B was just fucking awful. Boring and awful looking guns and sounds, zombies seemed all the same and had zero facial expressions to them, the different types of infected you could play seemed very similiar too each other and each of them lacked personality unlike the ones in L4D 1&2. Left 4 Dead did everything better.
@@giglioflex Yeah? I hear that a lot. But I was sunrise who was pumped for HLA and got it on day 1. So I had every reason to be more charitable than necessary. But I found it to be a fine game. Not bad and I had fun. But it was really not that different than other vr game. Expect it was more polished and looked better. But I would never go so far as to call it next level. It felt like more of the same to me.
Joe got a massive upgrade. That new house looks baller.

I've never been dissapointed in my gaming life as I was with BF2042. Been a BF player since BF42 so it really hurt. They just can't fix this turd called BF2042. They've broken the core battlefield experience so badly they can't deliver what the vast majority of fans want unless they completely redo the game. Bring back the class system, get rid of specialists, more weapons, better maps, gritty futuristic atmosphere, a solid campaign to give the multiplayer context, and no goofy bullshit.
It was obvious after the Beta that the game would turn out to be unplayable trash, so why the fuck would you still buy it?
I really wanted Mass Effect Andromeda to ve good and it just wasn't enough for me. Wasted like $100 for the ultimate edition to just be let down.

CnC4 was the worst game from a great series ever made lol. not only was it bad, they changed the formula just like 2042, but its even worse, and because the game has a focus on story and this game was the last of that story line, they destroyed the story and gave you probably the worst ending in any game ever lol. 2042 was close though.
BF 2042 was the last dying whimper of the franchise unfortunately.

That would have been incredible and it's stupid because the NPC's are all supposed to be in the loop with you...but none of them give a shit about being repeatedly murdered and do nothing to adapt? Fuck off.

Some might say im crazy, but think 2042 was still better than Vanguard. CoD is the pinnacle of the biggest load of shit in FPS.
@@cyanide7270 you make a valid point, but IMHO Vanguard, although bad, still played like COD, but BF2042 was not BF anymore (no classes, bland environments, etc.) and hence I spent more time playing Vanguard, even the campaign. BF2042 going F2P in some form or another says it all.

I went from being extremely excited for BF2042 to uninstalling the game after only a few days, it truly was a disappointment beyond any other this year. They really need to reassess the battlefield franchise and remember why people liked it in the first place
BF1 was the peak of the game engine and BF4 was the best overall. I really wish they would just remaster BF3 because it's been long enough

I played the Medium and really liked it. But I totally understand why it's here. There's no tension, it's not scary, honestly the story kept me engaged but it's only going to appeal to those like me who enjoy VERY narrative heavy games. It did need more in it (enemies primarily)
Exactly, it's VERY niche game. I liked it too, but still wasn't fan of static camera. It was more creepy because of its themes and story, and not because it's scary and tense. You can like something and still agree with others critique (hell, I love Cyberpunk 2077).
Yeah, me too Kinda, because i remember the only thing that kept me playing the game was the heavy toned narrative, BUT It still a damn shame that they had Akira Yamaoka on the project ans the OST is not even close to any work hes done before.....and i still wanted more tension and some scary enemies, and less splitscreens.

I'm actually kinda grateful for it. I'm always complaining to myself about how much there is to play and how little time I have. The rarity of actually good games helps that problem. That and it also makes them look even better in comparison.
You know what Joe, do you know the BEST thing about the last 2 years of gaming ? Between the GPU scalpers, poor game quality, Lack of available consoles etc...I went and bought myself a canoe. I have rediscovered that outdoor activities are great. I started to fish again, swim more, explore rivers in my area. I have been a shut in for so damn long I forgot the world was out there waiting for me. I still play on occasion of course. I mean I built a rig with an AMD 2700X and a 6700XT so I need to get my money back, but outside is free and wonderful. It's been so annoying to be a PC gamer for so long, fiscally as well as the sad state of gaming I actually have a tan now!

Love the outdoors too. The cost of gaming is just getting ridiculous, specifically graphics cards (CPU prices have increased as well but to a much lesser extent). $2,800 - $3,500 for a flagship GPU is just nuts, I bought my old 7970 for $480. I don't need to spend that kind of money to get half-baked Ray-Tracing, I can get a much better version in real life.
I love how much effort joe puts into his videos. An hour long video is amazing. He doesn’t milk 10 min videos left and right. I always watch his stuff.
BF 2042 was an absolute disaster of immense proportions. It was the worst example of how a Battlefield game and how an FPS game in general should be.
Literally all the Triple A FPS games released this year fell short. Vanguard was the 'same shit different year,' 2042 was a lazy and broken disaster, and Halo Infinite could've been a 10/10 had it released with more content.
I'm still a little sad over it tbh. Battlefield is something I've held close to my heart since 2010 and BF3 is one of my favorite games ever. Just hearing the "cheeky" little post-game lines in 2042 makes me want to vom.
Somewhere along the way they completely forgot they are a niche game with a very loyal fanbase. It's frankly astounding; almost as if none of the devs ever played a Battlefield game.

Really is a damn shame with the Scavengers game. Seeing that footage of hundreds of players on a single consistent map/server was a marvel. I really hope that the technology used for that game becomes more mainstream - so many games and genres would be made so much better with that kind of server technology. Imagine MMOs with servers that could hold thousands of players at once, or Battlefield-like FPS games with huge maps you can run and fly through. Hell, Scavengers could've stood out in the Battle Royale genre if they went all-out with the technology and had matches with 1000+ players in them, with massive 50-100 member squads, creating this chaotic war for dominance in a large map. There's a lot of potential with this kind of server technology, and it would be a crying shame for it to go unutilized.
And yeah, fully agree with Back 4 Blood. I was looking forward to it ever since it got announced, and I was bummed out when I actually played it and realized how bad it was. At the same time though, had I not played that with a group of friends, I wouldn't have discovered the far better versions of it - World War Z Aftermath and Vermintide 2 (can't wait for Darktide to come out, speaking of which)

Deathloop was a 7/10 for me. Nothing crazy or mind blowing, but I had a decent time with it. Got it for $20 brand new physical during a GameStop Christmas sale lol.
Yeah 6.5 to 7 out of 10 for me also. Prey is far superior from the same developers and Returnal destroys it for a roguelite.
I had a blast with it and picked it up for 30. Cant complain. I dig Colt as main character too, my mans is so funny

Man i've been telling my friends this for a while now. Honestly since 2017 the video game industry has been on a massive decline apart from Nintendo. Been looking at some "best games of the decade" lists and most of them have like 4-6 non-indie non-nintendo games that were made 2017 - 2020.
More greed and less imagination as time goes on.
What's even sadder is that video games have been slowly degrading over the years and this whole covid thing gave them the perfect excuse to drop the ball.
I can make these games at home and still communicate and collaborate effectively with a team. They can't make these flimsy excuses all the time. Interesting, engaging, intuitive and creative gameplay mechanics just don't exist much anymore. My wallet has been more full than it's ever been since I stopped buying games.
I never listen to any of these journalists, I rely on the reviewers like Joe who actually are honest and put effort into their work. Thank you Joe for being there for the gamers.

Letting you know, I really think this video was constructive a lot for me. It shows why checking videos about a game and multiple reviews is important and how much a product can evolve with different structure of support behind it! This is great work here! For dev and player, this is a must watch. it was fair on these 10 games.
For me it was Fallout 76 that taught me never to preorder or buy without getting reviews I trust. AngryJoe is one of them. He, OJ and Alex call it how they see it and often amuse me at the same time.
As an added precaution as to why I never preorder or buy on release day and wait for trusted reviews, I actually look for actual gameplay footage. Perhaps 10-20 minutes of someone doing a “let’s play.”
My safety method has saved me from several terrible games I might have otherwise bought. Anthem, Cyberpunk 2077 and possibly New World. The latter is a maybe though because I still play FO76 on and off and FF14 has been my MMO home for almost a year now.
The good thing about the disappointments list, is that it mostly serves as a good reminder to me on all of the mediocre releases that I absolutely forgot about a second after they came out
Fr, somebody please make me remember but last year was pretty pathetic for releases. I can only think of Ghost of Tsushima (PS5), Forza, and Resident Evil even though it was short it was a great experience.

The fact that we have so much to say as consumers and we can have such a big impact on gaming as a whole, is very important. I think the opposite is true in the sense that companies underestimates how big of an impact gamers can have. Actors had to create the me2 campaign, but us gamers changed a whole gaming company (Blizzard) and got it sold, in less than a year. It shows we're heading in the right direction as an entertainment media, even if the currently released games aren't that exciting.

I'll be honest here- for me this game was not even "ok", as Joe said. To me it just... is. Another generic runner-shooter without even trying to do anything differently. When I first saw trailer I wouldn't say I was that much hyped but it got my attention despite that "I've seen this somewhere already" vibe. Much like BF2042 famous rendezook scene- I knew it was impossible to have it in the game as an intended feature but still looked cool as a little devs wink towards playerbase.
Returnal was far better in literally any aspect. Mooncrash used the same mechanic, was done by the same studio and did it better. 4 years ago. Hell- even Dishonored did this far, far beter. But hey, they didn't pay to be forced into first place so not many people were hearing about them in the first place. And they definitely haven't had this lying YT asshole celebrities about how this game is soooo innovative, unique and "oh my god first time I've seen it I framed it as a one-trick pony ooooh how big mistake did I make, now I know please forgive me for accusing this masterpiece of being bad". It's beyond pathetic.

Battlefield 2042 was hands down my most disappointing game of 2021. I’m glad I’d played the beta test,because that prevented me from outright buying it. The problem isn’t that its broken state on release day (heck that is almost tradition with the BF franchise by now…), but that “it’s trying to be everything but a Battlefield game,” like you said.
That Orbital map in the beta alone put me off from playing the game. The map is too damn big with a lot of empty spaces between the capture points. You just end up running aimlessly across the map most of the time. And don't get me started with the specialists system.
What's crazier was that the die hard fans kept saying, "Oh its just the beta! Don't judge it so soon! The real game is gonna be WAAY better!"

Imagine the spatialos tech in a Total War type game but instead of the top down commander gameplay, you actually play as a soldier on one side of the war. That would be pretty amazing. Hopefully when that studio closes down, a company that will actual make good use out of that tech, will buy it.

You're my go to reviewer for any game you cover. The only review I've ever disagreed with is Dying Light, which I feel is a masterpiece.
But other than that. Your reviews are the tough love this industry needs when all we do is accept scams, mediocrity, and theft instead of good games.

@@warfare1101 Village was the best game for me. Even though 'It takes two' is considered to be the best, I can't play it because I have no one to play it with. Village feels next gen, even on my Xbox One X 4k 30fps I was blown away by the game.

Industry standards have been horribly low for many decades now. The ratio of good games against bad games has always been heavily skewed toward bad games, the thing is that bad games are eventually forgotten (except for an handful of exceptions).
So yes, there hasn't been any goden era of gaming since every decade has had a ton of bad shit, each with their own flavor of bad.

But the voice acting is awful/awkward, the plot got more nonsensical than RE is known for getting, and everything from the game was taken from other successful franchises. I couldn't tell if RE8 was a love letter to horror media or just straight up copied it. Guessing the latter. But, I guess all it takes to impress the causal gamer is flashy gameplay and a tall granny with tits. The devs definitely deserve the praise, though.
Can we all agree that the gaming industry needs a overhaul. Overhyped unfinished, broken , and full of microtransactions are all things that take advantage of buyers. And I feel it will only get worse
Changes in the industry can only occur if the consumer wants it. People should stop giving in to the hype and stop preordering games. Game companies don't care about the quality of their products as long as people keep blindly buying them.
The fact of the matter is; it won't. Because "gamers" keep buying into this shit, because the mainstream is full of dumb sheep. Gaming is moving closer and closer to digital only and by that point most, if not all, AAA games will be live serviced. And the majority will continue to buy into it because they are told it's convenient and what's best and they'll believe it. At least Asia is still keeping true to the real spirit of gaming, along with indie studios. Those of us who don't want this bullshit are the minority and these companies and corporations only listen to money. So, really, it'll only change if someone with a brain and a heart moves up in position to nip this at the bud. But that may as well be a pipe dream.
That's silently been happening. A lot of the big AAA studios have been loosing talent because they only care about profits. 2021 wasn't devoid of good games, it's just that all of them were from smaller / indie studios.
we lowkey need a gaming government sector that punishes gaming corps and looks out for any malpractice in the industry. Granted this is assuming ppl in charge would be doing it for the good of gaming and not dumb shit like censoring gta for violence or whatever.
@@giglioflex the whole all the good games came from small studios is so massively false. i get it is an opinion thing but it is still very incorrect, unless your definition of a small studio is very different than a normal person. capcom (village) isn't small, insomniac (ratchet and clank) isn't small, square enix (guardians of the galaxy) isn't small, and a lot of other massively popular games were backed by larger companies (deathloop, returnal, etc.). there are plenty of good indies out there but they were not even close to the only game in town.

You know another the problem I have with "Shiny Blue"? I don't even play any of the games in that genre and I am the worst penny-pincer on the planet. But... I actually have a weak spot for that blue with an Aurora Borealis effect. As someone in the creative field myself this makes my heart cry even more about this whole topic, because I know their artists know what they are doing. It's a game with a nature-based, muddy, earth-tones-filled ecstatic. Of course people would want it! That skin stands out the most.
The sad part is that Battlefield 2042 could have been one of the best things ever with Portal mode. It sucks how limited Portal is compared to what could have been. Just imagine: Wake Island, but with Bf 2142 Titans, Bf2 artillery and Bf 3 choppers and WW2 planes launched from the titans. How awesome would that be? If you ask me they should drop everything and double down on Portal, adding more shit and enable players to mix it up more with what the players want, from weapons and weapon mods of all different games and vehicles all able to be chosen seperately. Also more maps. But they won't do that because they probably don't even realize the full potential Portal has, and furthermore they need to work on fixing the still broken-ass game for the next year and a half, and they when it reaches a point where it's actually playable they'll just abandon it as another failed project just like Battlefield V.
I can understand that. I’d hate to see a franchise I loved wind up like this. For me it’s the Fallout franchise. I don’t know why, but I love it with every fibre of my being.
I've hear about Portal but what is it? Never played 2042 but I love all the other BF games.
@@Stefanbf2 it's basically a sandbox mode where you can create your own servers with maps and assets from old Battlefield games. So far I think they included Bf 1942, Bf3 and at least one more game (BF4 I think), also BF 2042 itself; you can also set rules for the teams I think, though I don't know how exactly that works. the idea is that the community can come up with fun and interesting game modes. I think even crazy stuff like 30 vs. 2 but the 30 only have knives is possible, but I think you can only pick one set of troops for each team. I'd like to see more variation possibilities, like give me WW2 soldiers but let them have BF3 assault rifles, stuff like that. So far Portal is only infamous for to things, one is that people abused it to farm XP to unlock weapons, which let to Dice completely disabling XP progress in Portal, and the other one is that it lets you play the older Battlefields in BF 2042, which just makes the point that the older Battlefields are more desirable and better than 2042.

Deathloop was such a letdown, and I'm glad to see more people are coming forward and acknowledging it was far from a masterpiece. When I finished it, my immediate thought was "...people gave this is a 10/10?" It's a 6/10 for me only because I love the banter between Colt and Julianna.
People only praised it because it has 2 black leads. Places like IGN will literally only give high praise to shit that woke. Soon as I seen all the perfect scores I knew it wasn't genuine

It was the most disappointing Tripple A game I’ve played for a while. As disappointing as I was on cyberpunk that was 100 times better than deathloop.

Battlefield 2042 was most dissapointing for me... Even aside from the bugs, it is just boring running across these huge maps - they just made them too big. And the future is in shipping containers - shipping containers everywhere. Shipping dock = containers (we'll let that one go) but then.. Ice map = containers. Sand map = containers. Grass land = containers. Surface of the sun = containers. Black hole = containers... aagghh. Thought i would play 2042 for year but i could only persevere a few weeks...

Price is too much like rambo. Has his moments but overdoes it. The others die. I feel detached from characters that just end up dying no matter what you do.
Keep in mind RECENT COD games are the ones lacking more character. Older ones have some characters that stand out. Like Sandman. A good example of a "price" like character yet also installing a sense of loss without the player dying. While at the same time getting people out alive and doing a mission.
Edit: Fun fact. Price himself was like Sandman at first in the original/first COD.
Outriders was a real shame, I ended up enjoying it for the most part and even got all the achievements but that game could have been so much more. Watching it back on here the frustration just came flooding back with the broken servers/disconnects etc. The constant fear that I could get disconnected at any second during a difficult fight or even worse just before the end of the bullshit timed runs that unlocked once the story was completed was more ptsd inducing than any horror game I’ve ever played lol.
I enjoyed the campaign of it. Didn't really bother with the post game stuff. The server issues were unforgiveable. Don't force an always online server connection into the single player campaign and then not have your servers work. It's pretty basic.
Outriders is the only game I disagree with on this list. The combat is great, the builds are amazing it was a fun experience and really good gameplay loops. It's fair he didn't like it based on all the crashes but the game was good.
@@ashleygray1632 having the game be basically unplayable for the first couple of weeks due to server issues and performance issues is what killed the game.

@@TheotherTempestfox A couple of weeks is a bit of a stretch, Logon issues were a few days and after that I had 1 crash at the spider boss. What I'm saying is I appreciate he downvotes the game for those issues no excuse for server issues on a campaign game. But the game itself was decent and had good ability combos and skill sets which he states the game did poorly.
I love how 9/10 most disappointing games are multiplayer or multiplayer modes.

So in summary we are in a really low point for the industry where extremely tired IPs are being constantly churned out with no soul and designed solely around being jam packed with aggressive expensive microtransactions.

I had the privilege of playing pretty much most of the games nominated for GOTY at the Game Awards this last year. And I completely agree Joe, Death Loop is not what critics say it is, and probably shouldn't have been there period.
I personally did like the Medium. And I would give it a solid like 7.5/10 or 7/10, it was quite good. But I found just some weird bugs here and there honestly. Like when I would be running away from a monster or something, I'd suddenly stop sometimes? But still worth more of a play then Death Loop.
What was your favorite single player?

@Dale Macarena not everyone can play any game at any time. Consoles in my country, for example, are very very expensive, like 2 to 3 months of minimum wage (PS4 and Xbox one, for PS5 is a about 5 months). Games are also expensive, about 1/3 of minimum wage, in a country where most people make minimum or less than this.
