Hopefully Ms Hill will continue to advise future administrations and actually be listened to, which apparently she wasn’t during past “patriarchal” regime/administrations. That the current global structure recapitulates past events that she refers to (ie, both “world wars” and more) proves yet again the pathologies that dominate a world out of balance. It might be naive to think that we could achieve “peace in our time” much less a lasting peace, especially when it is clear that the global economy is based on the continued development of arms and ordinance. The charts compiled on todays recap of the BBC podcast with all the predictable characterisations of “the enemy” (drawn in red ink) and the “patriots” in green comparing the relative power of the tanks, where they are coming from (former Warsaw pact, older Soviet, and where the shells and missiles are being provided from) is a brutal reminder that in spite of the stated ambitions and goals of the EU, the truth is bleak. It may or may not be an accurate quote from Albert Einstein when he said that “You cannot prevent war while preparing for war”. One of the victorious European generals after WW1 stated that “Peace is just war done with other means”. My ex-father-in-law pointed out that every 20 years a generation of boys to men reach the age where wars are supplied to them as proof that “War is the sport of kings”. It is also the sport of those transnational industrialists who profit from the manufacture and use of the weapons of war.

A big part of the equation is rarely discussed. Russia's ability to endure the economic consequences of its war are diminishing by the hour. The big turning point was early December when the EU stopped all oil purchases and put a cap on the price Russia can earn. Phase 2 began in February with the end of all petrolium products. You can already see the crash in government deficits in January which was much worse than the Russians predicted. They have about 10 months of capital reserves and then the same in gold reserves (although this will cause a global price crash) and then all they can do is issue bonds to Russians, since they are denied the capital markets. The month they start depending on bonds is that month that hyperinflation will start kicking in. And they lost nearly a million of their most educated workforce, which fled the country in 2 stages, plus another 300k due to the mobilization, and they have nearly chewed through that 300k so will need more - as they draw off their workforce this will accelerate the economic collapse, which is already evident in the steep decline in sales tax revenue.
The IMF just released their predictions and had Russian economy expanding by 1.5%…it’s a big world and if China and India are available to buy Russian exports well you just switch buyers.

What a delight to listen to her especially in contrast to the "Malarky" J. J. Mearsheimer spreads around from time to time. When he talked recently about the death of liberal Democracy and that many people "around the world" dont like it I asked him about immigration numbers INTO Russia and China, particularly how many Poles and Germans and Slovaks and Lithuanians have recently fled their countries asking for asylum in Putins empire. There was no answer from the the muddle brain expert.
She makes a key point about Russia being the aggressor for the first time. Because of this, and because of a globalized economy which didn’t exist in past decades, economic sanctions have nearly broken the back of the Russian economy and banking system. Their oil and gas exports have nearly ground to a halt and this accounts for some 70% of their GDP. This is a very different geopolitical situation than we have ever seen before and I don’t think Mr Putin fully appreciated this at the outset. All that said, I don’t think his ego will ever allow him to seek peace negotiations, nor is it conceivable that he would ever discuss Ukraine returning to pre 2014 borders.
I agree. Sadly, Putin doesn't see it that way. Russia people are expendable in the eye's of Putin. Not that that is news. It's the very definition of communism. Kevin Kevin

@@gagatube Right. So they waited until the 9th or 10th round to include Putin's extended family. Very diplomatic and nuanced.
She is very intelligent.
Life's CHEAP for Putin!
it is cheaper for zelensky actually life is quite valuable for zelensky $185000000 worth
@michael
You might want to do a little research. Ukraine is not perfect, but compared to Putins Russia, Ukraine is absolute heaven.
Kevin
Excellent interview-she belongs back in government
When we finally extinguish ourselves we can look back and lament the fact that we had a beautiful planet and made a complete mess of it.
GREAT interview!!
NATO view on Black Sea strategically, should consider expanding to also include a Kurd state; Reduce Russian influence in Syria by partitioning Syria to form Kurdish state in North-West Syria. So, Russia's naval port becomes Kurdish. For this, a United Nations General Assembly resolution is enough! Synergistically, a Kurd state will lower Turkish pressure from Kurds; facilitating FINLAND and SWEDEN joining NATO with Turkish support!!
very impressive as ever. Notice how discreet she was when commenting on how the Russians had bought into the political establishments of countries in the West...e.g., The UK and the Conservative Party.
Sound, correct reiteration of events. Trustworthy Historian.
she is a liar a lackey of the rothchilds and the WEF
She's a Biden-Blinken apologist. She's definitely an MI6 / CIA asset.
No wonder she ended up at odds with Trump - she's a thinker.
The reality is too obvious for us all to witness that as time moves on more countries turn democratic simply because it suits human's demands n needs n instincts. And the obvious consequence is that despots or dictators must leave the world stage. Slava Ukraine n Slava Democracy ! ! !
👍👍
How will the war end, when Putin falls out of a window.
Wish it were that easy
Ukraine has extremely rich and complementary mineral resources in high concentrations and close proximity to each other. The country has abundant reserves of coal, iron ore, natural gas, manganese, salt, oil, graphite, sulfur, kaolin, titanium, nickel, magnesium, timber, and mercury. IT ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO MONEY😪
Great interview but as far as I’m concerned this is General Knowledge of History everyone should know.
It was fine until the very end.
No. Crimea and Donbas should not be in the hands of some international committee. They should de facto become Ukraine again. (De jure they are.) Period.
It's very easy to sacrifice someone else's land.
And somebody else's children. If you want this sorted out then send your kids and leave the rest of us out of that Slavic affair.
She was unfairly fired by Trump, she deserves justice for that.
She is so correct.
Bravo Hill , you are beatiyfull and Smart
It is also the sport of those transnational industrialists who profit from the manufacture and use of the weapons of war.
brilliant analysis
"Wee need to think carefully" - maybe, but more importantly, we need to act decisively and promptly. Talking and thinking alone willl cause much laughter in Kremlin.
And as an expert whose opinion we should value...your credentials are?
Wrong
Exactly. This guy has no business commenting on geopolitical events.
Her books are great There's Nothing for You Here is her latest book. Interesting & well written. English &. American blue collar workers & class similarities.
She's earned a reputation for being a bit of a hawk, but when it comes to this conflict Dr. Hill is 100% right on.
When Biden was elected president I thought a forceful message to the MAGA orcs would be to reinstate Fiona Hill and Alexander Vindman as part of the White House staff since they were unjustly removed from government service when they gave testimony during the first Trump impeachment process. Maybe Biden made the offer, I don’t now, but given the sometimes contradictory and painfully slow release of game-changing military aid to Ukraine, I am not optimitistic.
Hope everything will be fine
Future is always DIY..
The Swede Rurik that came from Uppland ( north of Stockholm) an area also called Roslagen ( law of the Ros) founded the Kyivan Rus Empire, the ”cradle” of Russia in 830 AD. Could it be that Putin wants to conquer Ukraine to move the Russian capital to Kyiv to ”get back to the roots” of Russia?
The climate is a bit better and the beaches of the Black Sea are that much closer. 🤔
Ah, no. I rather think the bureaucracy in Moscow would voice (and more importantly, act upon) their reservations around such a move. Not quite the same as the move from Bonn to Berlin, either.
Heh, a 'Swede" that worshiped Perun (from a documented source) and had a N1c L550 haplogroup?
@@simplicius11 Are you propagating the Soviet re-interpretation of history where they claimed the Rus were really Slavs? Because I have it (from a documented source) that that horse is dead...
@@gagatube No, and from your question I'm certain that you aren't really familiar with the Soviet historiography.
But I'm pretty sure that the Rus' were not Swedish simply because they were clearly distinguished from Svei(Swede) and the other tribes living at the Baltic coast, "...Varyazi, Svei, Urmane, Gote, *Rus',* Agnyane...
Do you know any 'Vikings' worshiping Perun? I would like to see some documented source about that.
Or taking Slavic names, from allegedly conquered population?
Anyone claiming something like that, doesn't have any clue about a clan society.
Brooking, Democratic Party think tank. Always the academic minnows, ready to congratulate each other over brilliant insights. Moral equivalence at all times. Blather, no sight of economic or military understanding.
Like Hill she knows what she is talking about.
I have great respect for Ms Hill. Unfortunately I am partly deaf & couldn't understand much of what she was saying. Closed captions would have been most helpful.
I find it easy to focus on her information and opinion. Along with the AP she is an intelligent well-read individual.

There is about 5,000 years of precidents of big countries taking over smaller countries. International bullying is the modus operendi of international relationships. It is less than 100 years since the UK was the biggest empire the world has even known. How did the UK get all the territory in it enormous empire.

What’s the solution? We all know these arguments by now.
Russian oligarchs yes but not a word on the Ukrainian oligarchs - - just as bad, ruthless corrupted
I'd like to see a debate with her and Scott Ritter.
