My favorite Geirach saying goes something like this...."There is no problem that cannot be resolved by a fishing trip. The bigger the problem, the longer the trip".
I love his work...he always covers the whole experience: birds, plants, animals, descriptions of terrain. I can almost smell the coffee brewing over the campfire.
Sad to hear John Gierach has passed, like many others I looked forward to everything wrote and the unique way his writing added richness to our sport. RIP
ive been reading his books the last three years started when i was 10 now 13 and ive learned so much from his work hes the best fishing writer ive ever read
Absolutely great video! The background music was a little annoying but John Gierach is my favorite author! I envy the man's lifestyle and appreciate his take on fishing!
I'm of John' s vintage, and first picked up a fly rod in the early 1960s. Now after 50 plus years of flinging flies, I'm just glad my wife of 46 years doesn't really know how much money I have spent on fly tackle.....truth is, I don't even know myself. I love his books and most of all, his attitude toward it all.
One of my inspirations to go to the point that I make a living with something that is fun and in the outdoors. I love (fly)fishing, love his books, love to be creative and I love the outdoors!
Thanks for sharing this video. I love his books "Death, Taxes, and Leaky Waders" is so great. He has a way of looking at the whole thing that makes you feel like you are fishing with him. This video is a great extension of that. I subscribed thanks for sharing. Greetings from New York!
I really have fond feelings for this man. I have all his books, loan them out, save pics of him on the water and must say, I aspire to be a quarter of the man he is. Thanks JG
All so familiar to me. The "Stone Cup" in Lyons and what looks like the Big T or St. Vrain Canyon before the flood this past fall. I've seen John in both elements so many times! Great guy, good fisherman, and epic storyteller.
Very nice of you to post, and to see John doing well. Despite the comments of others, I thought the addition of Tom in the background set the mood well. Hope to see a new book in 2013.
Absolutely love Tom Waits, but it definitely drowns out Mr. Gierach's voice. It was so bad at one point that I thought there might have been another video playing in a different browser.
John Gierach is to FlyFishing writing as Ken and Ric Burns are to historical documentary filmmaking. The Master. His books are all a joy to read and beautifully written. The next best thing to being on the water yourself is reading or re-reading any of his books. He has 2 new reads published for 2019/2020 - something wonderful in an otherwise awful year. He hasn’t obtained legend-status in the FlyFishing world for nothing.
Brian O’Keefe once told me, “ I’m taking my retirement in 5 year increments, rather than all at once at the end of my life.” And then he boarded the plane in Bend and flew away.
I've been reading John's books since Sex Death and Fly Fishing was published. Its not intelligent to spend $1500 on tackle to catch a $.75 fish, but it certainly is fun.
Geez, I'm sorry, but that music in the background on a scale of 1 to 10 annoyance factor is a 10+. I had to struggle to hear over that noise. I had to stop the video to post this comment.
How can he have written so many books and not made any money? Have the publishers sucked him dry? Book publishers and record labels are one and the same- leeches!
Could you please reedit the film and remove that f..g music. I love John Gierach, got all his books, started fishing bamboo influenced by him and I can't catch half of what he said.
Tom Waits or not...that music just does not work. Get's in the way of the interview, makes it hard Geirach and doesn't add anything to the production. Too bad, 'cuz Geirach doesn't give that many interviews.

phenominal writer , a great storyteller of fishing exploits who keeps you attention
ive been reading his books the last three years started when i was 10 now 13 and ive learned so much from his work hes the best fishing writer ive ever read

Well done boys. Dig the Waits. Some fine words from Gierach.
Thank you.

A real character! And a superb fly fisherman
Gierach is an icon. He is the best fishing writer ever.
Can't believe I do like so much the two men; John and Tom, it’s not a coincidence...

R.I.P. John. Never met you but feels like I've known you for 30 years.
Love this vid; I’m a big fan of both John Gearach and Tom waits. Whenever I read his books sometimes I hear it in Johns voice and sometimes in Tom’s🤭
I love his perspective. You don't get your life back....live it each day...its that simple.
Nice. Thanks for posting.
Great music!
Great man!
The man , look he has a perfect reel too !!
Wonderful writer on fishing.

i too agree with so many previous...that the music has completely drowned out Gierach's conversation!!!
His truck, his radio, his music.

RIP, sir.
Hi Jay! Wish you well!

Very cool
Cane rods and the St. Vrain.
Is somebody slowly, very slowly, executing a pig in the background? I love it!
is that Tom Waits music?
ha I picked up on it in 2 notes..though I am a huge fan..
Nice
Good, but it would be a lot better without the music playing over river sounds and John’s comments.
Great.
“Other people are jealous right?... screw ‘em” possibly the meaning of life.
Great little film but the music spoils it (no disrespect to Tom Waits)
Are you kidding!? Its Tom Waits! Need I say more?
John is the main attraction here. Can the damn music. 🙄
Geez, I'm sorry, but that music in the background on a scale of 1 to 10 annoyance factor is a 10+. I had to struggle to hear over that noise. I had to stop the video to post this comment.
you need to get learned david, thats tom waits. i officially dislike your comment.
Rob M I'm not knocking the artist - my complaint is with the way it drowns out the conversation.
If it was't fun it wouldn't make any fuckin sense... Poetry...
The background song is distracting.
man turn down the background music tough to hear the man
I like Tom Waits a whole lot. What is the point of playing him so John Geirach has to talk over him. Really?
I was just learning
Music ruined my fucking day
How can he have written so many books and not made any money? Have the publishers sucked him dry? Book publishers and record labels are one and the same- leeches!
How many of his books do you own?
WTH is with that music? HAHAHA.
Sorry but what IS that horrible music? John Gierach is a treasure, how about remixing this and using different music or perhaps....none at all.
Could you please reedit the film and remove that f..g music. I love John Gierach, got all his books, started fishing bamboo influenced by him and I can't catch half of what he said.
You're murdering them both.
Tom Waits is a HUGE distraction.....in an otherwise great documentary
wtf!!! sitting in a f-g car and gagging??!!
Tom Waits or not...that music just does not work. Get's in the way of the interview, makes it hard Geirach and doesn't add anything to the production. Too bad, 'cuz Geirach doesn't give that many interviews.
Bla...bla..bla..
Blaaaa....
