@@samholmessailing I get severe motion sickness, even when I am driving. So I really love watching you on the high seas, having an awesome time, Sam! I live through you, Sam!
Pad eyes for the jack lines - it looked like you used SS wood screws to mount them in place. I hope you will through bolt them so they don't pull out should they be tested with you going overboard one day. Enjoying see you put this boat in shape!! Cheers.
Times 2. Those jack line pad eyes need to be thru bolted. Your life may depend on it. I know a lot of cruisers don't even have jack lines. I did and here's my take. Imagine getting thrown off the deck at 3 AM on a stormy night. The jack line and the life line need to stop you before you go over the railing, in other words you're still on the deck. Imagine there's excess line and you're hanging off the side of your boat while the boat is still underway in very stormy seas. Do you think you could pull yourself back on deck. As a test with your boat at anchor in calm seas jump over the side with your jack and life line and see how difficult it is to pull yourself up and over the rail. OK. Rant over. Great videos! Keep posting!
bruce warren & D H. I agree with both of you. If there is a reason to do it in the first place. There is a reason to do it right. Halfway safe is still unsafe. The illusion of safety is just that, an illusion. That said he is a competent sailor and he is young with limited finances. I applaud him for getting out there and realizing his dream. We all choose what risks are acceptable to each of us. I know we all just want him to live a long and healthy life. So we comment out of concern. Cheers.
Don’t you just love all the armchair comments. I get it! You’ve probably been to sea a lot longer then anyone commenting. I get it. Do what you can now and get back to it when you have the proper bolts. Some people just can’t avoid commenting on the obvious.🤣🤣🤣
Sam!!! I just figured out why you had to get the new boat! You ran out of stuff to fix, modify, destroy and rebuild on the old one and you needed to start again . Yet I find myself looking for your new videos all the time, hahahahah :))))
awesome stuff Sam! i look forward to every post on IG and youtube. i follow about 15 sailing projects, and you are one of my favorites, especially as a solo sailor. i have recently fallen in love with the idea of sailing. i figure, if i watch enough of your informative, learn-as-you-go, passionate, in-the-moment vlogs, by the time i'm ready to invest my time and money into the adventure, perhaps I'll be decently knowledgeable on the subject. keep up the hard work!
New fridge install looks good, plus you can use the top (when closed) as a dish drying station. Also, I see the subs are growing. Congrats, 100k is right around the corner...
Sam, if you put more holes in your boat, you might want to go to Sub School and get your Dolphins. But seriously, your mast light is a four way switch I think. If you had it on one position while at the top of your mast, did you check and see when using the switch below if it worked correctly afterward from the cockpit?
Sam, have you considered making a "mast gate" I think this would be a really good advantage with your setup, allowing your sails to fall fully down to the boom and back up again without needing to to forward. These are traditionally drilled and tapped in place, but you can modify and mill slots on the edges so you only have to loosen the screws and slide the gate out of the way. Let me know what you think.
I went for an improved version of « the piece of rope » by replacing it with « a piece of bungee cord » 3 turns tight around the mast and you can slide it when you want that sail off even partially (to reef for example). :) it’s been on my mast for the last three, four maybe, seasons... very happy with it.
Dude! I also have a similar kind of rope setup, preventing the slides from dropping out.. works like a charm. pro tip: use a bungee rope, makes reefing easier 😂
Hey Sam, I looked on the Cape Dory Sailing Association web site for recommendations on how to install jack line anchors. On my Cape Dory I use 1/2” nylon or Dacron braid line rigged to 3/8” forged pad eyes (less expensive welded pad eyes can fail under extreme loads) thru bolted with 4 - 1/4” bolts with 3/4” 4”x6” teak backing with large flange washers and lock nuts. Don’t use 2 hole. Get 4 hole pad eyes. 1/4” plate aluminum or ss steel would be better. Other boats I sail on I bring my lines and tie to their cleats fore and aft. Stop short around a lifeline stantion going aft so you don’t go behind the boat and get dragged drowning. I use a short tether working tight which has saved me a few times in rough weather from falling overboard. Some sailors like one amidships which will do this well. I have also tried this and works well too. Read Fastnet Force 10 as some sailors were lost at sea as their pad eyes failed. Rig well as your life depends on them.
Love watching your videos. Was wondering why you put in such a large Victron energy charge controller? The one you have is 50 amps and seems a bit large. I have 600 watts on my RV and us a 30 amp controller. How many watts do you have? I've done a lot of solar installs....cheers
Scusa.. Solo per pura curiosità, posso chiederti che lavoro fai? No perché hai molto tempo da poter dedicare alla barca.. Ed io non ci riesco mai!! Comunque complimenti per i tuoi video! Ti seguo sempre. Ciao.
Pad eyes for jack lines held with wood screws may pull out under shock load. Also, the wood may rot since I didn't see any sealant around the screws. I also suggest bolts with a backing plate....
The proper thing for a critical lifesaving component like this would be to through bolt it but i just used sheet metal screws. I made sure to put them in a place where they could be through bolted later but this is probably good enough for me.
The area where the sink is, is normally an empty cavity area to store pots and and pans. They just put a new top in and cut a hole for the sink and trash.
Hello! I was looking to go and send you some money as a donation! With everything going on I’m trying to do my part and share! But I could not seem to find the PayPal link!! Will keep looking! But thank you for the videos and if I find it I will be sending some your way!
Make a a couple of stops and get some proper screws for it, has to be way cheaper than $25 ea and it will be god to have spares on hand. Watching you put the fridge in I found myself wondering about where the warm air outlet is on the fridge. You ought to replace those screws with bolts & a backing plate, might make you worst day ever a cheap thrills day rather than the last one.
Sam you seemed to know what you are doing. If you ever want something different let me know. I could sure use someone that is as handy as you are. Otherwise be safe my friend.
I love the way you make "grilled" cheese toast in a frying pan! That takes initiative which your videos indicate you are not short of! Most Americans would just buy a bigger boat if they wanted a fridge accessible! Did you check before you cut the hole, that the fridge would even fit without having to carve a hole in the hull.
You would be amazed at how many new boat owners are not capable of most of your efforts. I have a feeling that some start projects but give up when the result will not be perfect! Older boats are cheap because new ones that need - hopefully less upgraded - are not unaffordable.
Sam, I confess, I’m the worst at navigating RUclips. Have you thought about having a published “Wish List” like sailing zephyr? People could get you stuff you want or need.
I don't even sail and I look forward to your videos, always entertaining and makes my day better. Thank you Sam!
Thanks, glad to hear you’re enjoying them.

thru bolted with backing plate.. that is way to flimsy as it is...

Love the project vids man! Boat is coming along great! Can't wait to see your next big trip in this beauty!
Love these! Keep doing what you're doing...thx
I LOVE these project videos. Thank you!
There's something so meditative and happy about following your ongoing DIY. Thanks for creating these vids. Cheers from Kansas.
I like the fact that your new boat is ship shape but not overly glossy. Stay safe and enjoy what the sea has to offer.
I actually love these random little project vids .. feel free too post more and longer ;)
The new frig looks cool!
🥶😎
You're so happy all the time, I want a boat, dammit!
I want his outlook on life!
Loving the new boat, really looking forward to more sailing videos. Keep up the good work Sam.

Mr. T.M. B. Thanks, glad to hear you’re enjoying them
Thanks for sharing. Love all your content!
Don't know about anyone else but I like seeing project work. Doing good dude
Cool little video. Thanks for not letting us go too long without updates! Hope all is going well Sam.
Project videos are great they teach and help with ideas.
Good work Sam, getting comfy. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Love the project uploads as much, possibly more, than the sailing uploads!
that fridge looks sweet
Best content on you tube! I'm missing my normal sailing and rigging season this year.
It’s good to see your well Sam keep up the good work.🏴🏴🏴🏴
Hey Sam, i am learning bits and bobs from you , please keep them coming with more details wherever poss, Greatly appreciated!!:D
You bet!
Not afraid to drill holes in the boat; you rock sir!
Keep them coming Sam! Love the build videos.
Great Sam, Fridge location looks good :)
Love the new location of your frig. Think I will do the same on my sailboat. Thanks. S/V Cork
I really like how the fridge turned out! How did you get power back there? Is your solar/battery capacity enough to keep it running full time?
The cords just running across the counter but i might go through the engine bay when i hard wire it in.
Is that fridge still holding up after two years? Just wondering since I know those compressors need good air flow to keep from overheating.
Your story & videos are great, I'm jealous!
New fridge install looks good, plus you can use the top (when closed) as a dish drying station. Also, I see the subs are growing. Congrats, 100k is right around the corner...
I made a couple of those sail gates from Delrin plastic remnants. Super strong, slippery, and it can be worked with woodworking tools
Well done!

Love the Video man, Keep it up.
Sweedish fish was cool but ur new ship does the job
Happy for you about the fridge.Fit perfect.
Sam the man! Love your stuff!
We are alot alike I'm getting my boat ready to sail just got it but then I'll do lil projects like u as a go
What fridge is that? I have been looking for a cooler with ice compartment but can’t seem to find one

Where did you find that fridge; how much does it cost?. Love the content keep up the good work John the Limo Driver from Kansas City

That would be ideal. It looks like there used to be one on there. Maybe one day when i have time.
I think I've sent a dozen of those track stops to the bottom. Glad to know it's not just me!
Haha glad I’m not alone. This is at least the third one I’ve lost.
Sam, why do they fall off so easily? And are you living onboard?
Love the random vids man keep em coming 😁
Thx. Love how small jobs increase quality of life
Good Job!

I love you, Sam. Keep making videos.
Sam Holmes sailing is turning into diy projects sailing just like every other channel
Thats just the reality of sailing
That’s what owning a boat is about
I’ve seen people drill, epoxy, and drill....What product are you using on the screws or the object to seal up the holes you’re drilling?
Dude! I also have a similar kind of rope setup, preventing the slides from dropping out.. works like a charm. pro tip: use a bungee rope, makes reefing easier 😂

Your smile is infectious, so cute
Fits like a cooler should .
What kind of fridge do you have? Great videos, Sam!
Never mind....I missed seeing the text. Alpicool C22
Ur a legend Sam, safe Journey. Cant waiit to see the rest. Well done. Stay safe bro
Good bung removal tip. Thanks.
Love watching your videos. Was wondering why you put in such a large Victron energy charge controller? The one you have is 50 amps and seems a bit large. I have 600 watts on my RV and us a 30 amp controller. How many watts do you have? I've done a lot of solar installs....cheers
I found a used 50 amp one on amazon for the same price as the 30 amp and figured might as well have room for expansion.
Is no one going to mention that you finally have a picture next to your name?!??!
Also nice fridge!
Keep it going!!!

You never seem to run out of small jobs on the boat. The fridge looked good and I like the new mast light.
Paint your cuts! On the fridge hole. I've hopped on plenty of boats with blown out wood from the cuts not being sealed as well as they should have
Get rid of those screws in the pad eyes for jack lines. Use through bolts, your life depends on it.
You should make some intro for future videos. It will attract more viewers. Good luck!
Tell us there's a backing plate for the jack lines please!!!
"Cool Sam"
How much your fridge cost?
👏👏👏👏👏👏
The area where the sink is, is normally an empty cavity area to store pots and and pans. They just put a new top in and cut a hole for the sink and trash.
Ahh that makes sense. Good to know.
sam is back 😍
Happiest man i ever seen
his smile is addictive.lol
If you keep drilling holes you’re not going to have any boat left soon! 😂
Im just getting started. 😆
according to my CD book, the sink should be on the starboard side close to c/l with the ice box towards the hull. the stove was on the port

Is there enough space under the fridge for more storage? 🤔
I think so. I’m going to see if i can squeeze my spare mainsail under there.
What is the model of the light that goes between an anchor light and a green/red? Oh, you're Amazon page seems to be down...
Sam: Who makes your fridge. I need one on my 30" sloop.
What do you think your next big trip will be?
Ill be going up the eastern seaboard in about a month
Take me with you... :-( I'll be of all sorts of help!
Sam you seemed to know what you are doing. If you ever want something different let me know. I could sure use someone that is as handy as you are. Otherwise be safe my friend.
Do you still believe you got a good deal on that sailboat?
Yeah it’s like my dream boat
Padeyes need thru bolting and adequate backing plate
What brand is the fridge?
Alpicool
I get the feeling you improvise A LOT
Well he is at sea A LOT!
Just put some rubber around the fridge and it will look like it was always meant to be there.
I bet that would look sharp
Yo ensign lad degassing
better idea for jacklines is to tie them off at aft cleat , if you have one.
My jack lines weren’t quite long enough for that.
would you recommend your ryobi tool kit? I'm thinking of buying one, don't know which brand yet
Yes they’re decent tools. Very reasonably priced too.
Hey Sam!
I like that like to dislike ratio, 315:0
funny how america is the only country to have navigation lights backwards
Hope you get some Ryobi kickback $

Hi Sam
Why do that these fridges need all the fresh air they can get to cycle if they are kept cool they work well , now you have less bench space
Sam, I confess, I’m the worst at navigating RUclips. Have you thought about having a published “Wish List” like sailing zephyr? People could get you stuff you want or need.
Cool idea. Ill think about doing that
Sam Holmes Sailing some guy bought them a go pro bubble. I noticed you bought one for yourself.
