As I sit here in my shop, in my mountain in the Pacific Northwest.... I'd like to wish everyone in the "Off The Shelf Reviews" community a Merry Christmas! May all of you have a Blessed Holiday season!!!
I have to say, some of my favourite parts of this movie are Old Man Parker battling with the furnace. The way he stands in the kitchen complaining that his Oldsmobile could freeze up on a hot day in July and then there's a sound from the basement: 'Aha! A CLINKER!!" followed by a stream of nonsense profanity coming up through the furnace vent. The other scene I really like is from the end of the movie when boys have gone up to bed and the parents are alone in the living room with only the lights from the Christmas tree and the radio. It's snowing outside and the Mum is looking out and saying how lovely it looks and the Dad brings her a glass of wine, perches on the arm of the sofa next to her and slowly runs his hand up and down her back. It's such a lovely, intimate moment that really sells that this is a couple who have been married for several years, have had their ups and downs but still love each other.
Merry Christmas Shelfers and to you Ian and Gary! Have a happy New Year's Eve! Hope you have a very happy Christmas with your families! See you until next year! Great review Ian and Gary this is one of Christmas classic.
Indeed this movie has been on tv for decades, even if it is a product of its time, it still contains elements that transcend its setting and still works after all these years
We Americans get tortured every time if we have cable TV we would have to endure 24 hours of a Christmas story on TBS and or TNT growing up that was the true Horror as a Child.
When I was 11 I asked for a Red Ryder bb-gun and…. I got it. I’m 36 and it’s 3’ away from me in my closet rn. Ty aunt Janet and uncle Steve, I’ll never forget staying up all night and seeing that beautiful gun reflect the Christmas lights off it’s shinny black barrel in the pre dawn of my most magical Christmas morning of my life. If you gave me a million dollars to tell you one of the other dozens of presents I received… I couldn’t. A few days, weeks, idk how long.. me, my brother and cousin were shooting them off my cousins back porch. I was cocking the level when it fired. No finger on the trigger and it wasn’t even fully cocked. The bb hit the ceiling, ricocheted and hit my cousin right between his eye and temple 🤦♂️ … then we did the classic scramble to claim him down before an adult heard and took them away 😂
With Iain wearing those antlers, I take it that you had recorded this as soon as Iain arrived back from a "Stag" Party ! Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and may 2025 bring you greater success and less of those petty "copyright strikes." All the best guys.
Merry Christmas guys! I’m happy you got to see the movie for the first time Iain! I love this movie. We don’t get the channel anymore in Canada, but I remember 15 years ago watching this movie on loop when I was on holiday break from high school.
Oh fudge! That was a wonderful review fellas! Still my favorite on a Bob Clark double bill - Christmas Eve- Black Christmas and Christmas Day- A Christmas Story. Happy Holidays to you both and your families 🎅🤠
Iain, it was a competition by a soda company called Nihi. Nihi's logo at that time was a woman's leg wearing a stocking. The original logo had a skirt just above the knee, hence "knee-high." For some reason I don't know, in the Midwest, they had a variant logo that was just the entire leg.
How does Peter Billingsley manage to look about 4 and 40 at the same time?! Kid looks like an accountant! Great review to finish the year. Merry Christmas shelfers. Here’s to a great 2025 👊🏻
HAND DOWN! THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER! FOR ME! Me and my family love this classic SO MUCH! My mom, dad, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, everyone! We truly love this movie! Back in the day, we would let it play on the television while we open presents and party. And of course, it was on the hour long station! We did this every year when I was a kid! But as I got older, sadly we don't do this tradition anymore. But it doesn't ignore the fact, Christmas Story is our favorite holiday movie! So many memorable moments! The story, characters, humor, the setting, everything is spot on! Even though I wasn't born during those times, I can still see this film as a masterpiece! I can understand most people not liking it, because this movie is literally everywhere every year! And every fan praises it as the best Christmas movie, like me lol and that's fine. Even if it wasn't popular, I would still love it. Mainly because my parents and grandparents made me watch it when I was very young. And it's a really good movie! Bob Clark made two of my favorite Christmas movies! Black Christmas being my favorite Christmas horror movie! And A Christmas Story being my favorite family Christmas movie! Thank you, Bob Clark! And thank YOU Gary & Iain for this video!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Something y’all didn’t mention that totally makes the phone call scene is… the other mother answers the question of where did Ralphy hear it from…. In the most matter of fact tone “his father”.
Gary, Ian, Merry Christmas to you and yours. I absolutely love you guys and if I wasn't an ocean away, I'd buy you both a drink. Here's to a happy 2025 for both of you.
I don't know if mentioned, but Ralphie is in the MCU. He plays the scientist Jeff Bridges yells at in Iron man one. >TONY WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS INA CAVE! That guy. He also reprises the role in the Spider-Man with Msyterio.
Great review to this classic Gary & Iain... Some time you both should also check out the long awaited direct sequel 'A Christmas Story Christmas' from 2022 (with much of the original cast all returning all these years later), it is actually a pretty good movie in my opinion....Happy Merry Christmas to you guys & your families 😁✌️🎄
Hello Ian and Gary and everyone out there. Merry Christmas and happy holidays 💖. I thought of an absolutely obscure movie that has an actor from this movie... it's called "8 Days A Week." I think you might like it. ❤❤❤
Finally, I get to find out what this bloody film is all about. Judging by the number of reviews I avoid, I am expecting: Star Wars, Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and Marvel, all rolled into one spectacular event. I bet its Cr@p.

@TexMexGenX why thank you!

The most American Christmas movie possible - he wants a gun. MERRY CHRISTMAS! 😊
Doesn't eveyone want a gun?

That second scene with the tree is not talked about ,a shame it s my favorite.

Glad to see y'all enjoy this US Christmas banger, my boys!
Great! As a German I have never seen this movie, only heard of it. Merry Christmas, you all!
Have a very Merry Christmas Gary & Iain, and a Happy New Year. Give us even more fantastic reviews for 2025. 🎁
Jeff Gillen who played Santa in A Christmas Story was also in Bob Clark’s first film Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things.

My kids continue to compare me to the Old Man whenever I'm working on a project in the basement. Sounds about the same :)
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
MERRY X-MAS SHELFERS!!!!

Merry Christmas to you 🎄🍇
This may be my favorite Christmas movie, going back to my introduction via ye olde TNT channel. Merry Christmas and a happy new year, fellas!
I was born and raised in Hammond Indiana. I've been to the Gene Shephard community center several times.

I remember Ralphie hits puberty when he sees the lamp for the first time, and keeps feeling it up.
31:15 oh yeah, The Democracy Manifest!! I just read, the guy Charles Dozsa died Aug 7 of this year. What a shock that was. RIP.
Something y’all didn’t mention that totally makes the phone call scene is… the other mother answers the question of where did Ralphy hear it from…. In the most matter of fact tone “his father”.
God I absolutely have loved this movie since I was 4 years old and I can't wait to watch it again tonight!!!😂❤❤
Happy Christmas, lads!
Merry Christmas Lads! ❤
In all my 39 years , I've never seen this movie on finnish tv channels. I dailymotioned it about 10 years ago
