Why? I have a theory. When a single person is bullied, traumatized heavily, kicked and beaten, and then, later, they build a support network, get friends: A single person might learn to forgive, over the short span of their life, and move on to other things. But a nation of people, God's people, who were either born into being bullied, or into bullying others, might just want revenge. And they'd see their friends, allies, and support network as enablers, guaranteeing unlimited, unconditional support. Maybe they'd want to finally claim the Promised Land, promised to Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob--who was renamed Israel, which means "wrestles with God."
Note how it doesn't specify whether they wrestle for or against God. Though, in the story, Jacob is wrestling against the angel. And their Scriptures show them to be all-too human, and not above exterminating their enemies, anymore than the other countries, including the U.S.

suffering becasue they along with a bunch of countries invaded Israel in 1948 in an effort to eliminate the entire country. They lost. They tried again in 1967 and lost again but that time Israel kept some land. Maybe should have played nice and not tried to wipe out a country three times 1948, 1967 and then again in 1973. This speech was made two years ago, the tragedy is that history is repeating itself. The nakba or catastrophe goes on for 75 years in Palestine, and the tragedy is that democrats and republicans are the same breed when it comes to the the plight of Palestinians. As I hear this poor Palestinian lady raise her tear soaked voice and recall the homes containing oppressed peoples dreams being destroyed with all their possessions and even their loved ones in them. I see the wounded, the old, the young, the babies in arms fleeing to what they are told are safer areas and still being bombed and dead bodies strewn on the roads. When I see severely wounded people being desperately rushed to hospitals and being tirelessly attended to by doctors and staff with bleeding hearts, tear filled eyes and shaking hands, and then all being smashed to the ground by an Israeli bomb. I watch in disbelief and sadness as more arms and killing machines are supplied by leading world countries to permit this genocide that's gone on for over a month. Have millions of years of "civilization " brought to this point of no return and made us so heartless? Let's look inward at ourselves and see what type of humans we have evolved to be. They are dying with honour and we are living with ?????
