It's a wonder to me the titles and genres of the books you pick up. Part of my enjoyment is your wide variety of genre reading and the amazing and scary titles you find.
I almost fell over when you put Zombie Sharks with Metal Teeth up on the screen - I'm literally halfway through reading a physical copy of it right now. It's part of my SGJ collection, so I don't want to sell it, but I'd be more than happy to loan it to you as soon as I finish it.
It might be a little pricey depending on conversions as they're based in the UK, but it looks like Wob (World of Books) has Zombie Sharks With Metal Teeth 🦈
Also, Schuler Books out of Michigan has it on their website, but it says it’s a special order and is subject to availability. I’m not 100% sure if they ship to Canada, but it looks like they might ☺️
Eeek, I wouldn’t recommend WoB… I’ve bought from there a few times, and the books turned up mouldy. And it took almost a month for a refund :( they were really gross. Supposed to be ‘very good’ and had food on, mould, paper clips, broken pages and pen marks all over them. X
@@Marsden_Reads That’s terrible, I’m sorry your books arrived that way. I’ve bought books through them in the past and apart from once when the cover was different then the picture shown, I’ve never had a problem; all the books were in terrific shape.
The Haar is such a great book, it is extreme horror, but it also has a lovely romance thread to it. Additionally, the main character is an elderly Scottish lady which isn't something you get very often.
Heather O’Neill is one of my favourite authors, ever. Her creativity, quirks and skill with words makes for an engaging, enlightening and entertaining read every time.
I’m just now finishing up the last few chapters of A Botanical Daughter and I am SO curious to see how you like it. I love it but barely anyone else in my book club has so
The Haar is incredible and my favourite book from last year. A very oddly touching story which was also romantic and with such a fun main character (a sassy 80 year old Scottish woman, how can you get better than that). Adored it
Ashley's Little Library read The Haar earlier this year for the 24-Hour Horror-a-thon. It has some gore but is also cozy. It covers a lot and was so much fun!
Highly recommend the audiobook for What My Bones Know, at least for the chapter towards the end where she includes actual recordings of her therapy sessions.
Zombie sharks is available on rebuy! It’s a German company so they don’t ship to Canada but if you don’t have any other options I could buy it and send it to you, would end up being somewhat pricey though
I've read 4 of Heather O'Neill's books - I love her and think of her writing and storytelling style as the Canadian Ottessa Moshfegh... I LOVED Lullabies for Little Criminals and hope you do too and that it ends up in a video!
Revenge by Yoko Ogawa is so good ! It's one of those where you finish and want to reread immediately to catch little things you missed the first time around.
I started the Familiar today! Currently I’m 4 chapters in and am enjoying it so far. I read the Ninth House and Hell bent recently and really enjoyed them. Hell bent actually had me literally CRYING.
I really think you’d like, The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker. It was published in 2012 so It’s a bit old. Might find it thrifting sometime!
I want to advocate for you to read Mister Magic by Kiersten White because I’m dying to know what you think of it! It’s not just about famous people or fame - it’s a mix of millennial nostalgia, mystery about a tv show everyone remembers different things about, and childhood. It’s so darkly creepy and I think you would like it!!
I'm currently reading What My Bones Know and it certainly hits if you have a ptsd diagnosis and/or immigrant parents. My friend also read it and gave it 5 stars.
As someone with ptsd, I really need to read this book. It indimidates me because I'd need to face some things again, but it would for sure be helpful in some way.
I sadly DNF'd The Familiar at around 30%. I was bored and did not care about anything that was happening. Also hated the main character, but not sure if that was intentional?
Heather O'Neill is one of my favourite authors but I haven't read Lullabies for Little Criminals yet even though I own it! Excited for your thoughts because maybe it will be the push I need to finally get to it 😂
I am so stoked to see you grabbed a Heather O’Neill book. She has become one of my favorite authors after reading When We Lost Our Heads and Lonely Hearts Hotel. I really hope you check those out too. She blends pink fluffy whimsy and ultra dark pits of humanity very well.
I’ve sent my husband on a wild goose chase for the Stephen Graham Jones book and maybe he can find it somewhere! Maybe as an… obtained ebook if nothing else as a backup plan if nobody else has it 😭
Hi Kayla! I bought a copy of Zombie Sharks with Metal Teeth at Boulder Bookstore. They sell a lot of SGJ books that I had been struggling to find. The only downside is I don't know if they ship to Canada.
I highly recommend rereading the first two of the Indian lake trilogy! I haven’t read them since last year and I read the third one aaaand I regret doing so without refreshing my memory. I feel like this series is like, one giant book in three acts you know?
I'm 80 pages into The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, I don't think any of the characters have really hooked me into the story yet, and I'm a little disappointed it's witchy/magic vibes and not vampires 😂 the title just really made me think vampires even though nothing it the synopsis supports that ahah I blame the what we do in the shadows show for having vampire familiars 😂
I gave The Familiar 2.5⭐ I loved the first half, but I got bored during the second half and couldn't connect to the characters or the romance. I think you'll like it though!
I won’t lie to you his stories are usually pretty gross and I’d say a lot of them are body horror or adjacent, but with that being said they’re also super unique and effective.
I read the familiar it was only a 4 star I definitely prefer ninth house but if you like her writing and read various genres I think people will enjoy it. If they only read YA fantasy they will probably DNF 😂
The emperor and the endless palace is more of an erotic fantastical love story across time. Only one of the timeline is more explicit. Also, it’s not a romance! I would consider it a love story instead. I hope you enjoy it! I gave it 4.5 stars

Omg THANK YOU! I swear I checked everywhere and had given up 🙌🏻
I just sent that same message to Kayla on Instagram 😂😂

loveddddd What My Bones Know. It was a bit of a heavy read towards the beginning
Heather O’Neill is one of my favourite authors, ever. Her creativity, quirks and skill with words makes for an engaging, enlightening and entertaining read every time.
Grey Dog is an interesting one! Very slow but a good feral woman type of read 🙌🏻
I just recently bought Revenge by Yoko Ogawa and am reading it in May! I can’t wait to hear what you think about it!
What My Bones Know is fantastic and a new favourite for me. I hope you'll 'enjoy' it, as much as you can ever enjoy reading about someone's trauma
I’m just now finishing up the last few chapters of A Botanical Daughter and I am SO curious to see how you like it. I love it but barely anyone else in my book club has so

That color green is so beautiful!!! Excited to watch, omg the first book matches the tooop!!!
Not many people can pull off that green, I’m jealous 💚
Ashley's Little Library read The Haar earlier this year for the 24-Hour Horror-a-thon. It has some gore but is also cozy. It covers a lot and was so much fun!
Right in time for my fight with anxiety again 💜
A sitting on the floor book haul??? Let’s goooo!!!
I’m so happy you thrifted Revenge! It’s my favourite short story collection ever and Yoko Ogawa is amazing
Yes! I'm so glad you got The Bandit Queens! I read it last year and loved it. 4/5 It could have been 5/5 if not for the ending. Very fun read.
I’m so glad you got Botanical Daughter! I picked it up for my birthday and excited to hear what you think 💐
I just bought the Kobby Ben Ben book this weekend too! It looks so good!!
Highly recommend the audiobook for What My Bones Know, at least for the chapter towards the end where she includes actual recordings of her therapy sessions.
Revenge is PHENOMENALLY UNSETTLING! It’s actually the book that made me realize I like short stories!
Zombie sharks is available on rebuy! It’s a German company so they don’t ship to Canada but if you don’t have any other options I could buy it and send it to you, would end up being somewhat pricey though

so excited to see what you think of icarus!! it instantly became my all time favourite k. ancrum book
The Haar is kind of cozy horror? Idk how to describe it, but I loved it! ☺️ It’s a little weird, which I think you’ll love ☺️
iiiiinteresting 👀💞
I read Zombie Teeth by SGJ, and now I'm trying to remember where I read it. I'll do some research and see what's up.
Revenge by Yoko Ogawa is so good ! It's one of those where you finish and want to reread immediately to catch little things you missed the first time around.
Dear Kayla, you can buy in from Waterstones in the UK for £8.95- not sure if it will ship to you?
Archer's Voice is so good and made me cry! 😢
I read The Raw Shark Text last month and I think you’ll enjoy it. I pass on most books, but this one deserves a reread!
I started The raw shark texts but got so bored I dnf’d it lol

Grey Dog was also one of my top reads from last year!
ahhh The Haar is so good!!! One of my top books from last year - it's weird & gory & romantic - I hope you love it!
I'm currently reading What My Bones Know and it certainly hits if you have a ptsd diagnosis and/or immigrant parents. My friend also read it and gave it 5 stars.

I feel like I need to read Archer’s Voice with you, in solidarity.
been wanting to read Bandit Queens!!
I really enjoyed Behold the Dreamers. Hope that one makes it to a vlog soon.
Excited for your thoughts because maybe it will be the push I need to finally get to it 😂
Will you review ‘Silenda’ by Kelsie Stoker , I can’t find anyone else who’s read it :(
Oooo I just picked up the Rose Sutherland book, the UK cover is stunning, the book sounds fabulous though
The Haar sounds fun though 😏
A Botanical Daughter sounds very interesting. I put it on my to-buy-list as soon as you said what it was about!
Wait I loved archer´s voice
I found the shark book on Abe books...it's $126 used...I think it's out of print 😬
Bandit Queens was one of my surprise favorites of last year!
I would love for you to do an extreme horror vlog with more horror novels 😃
Hello, I have the PDF for Zombie Sharks with Metal Teeth. How can I send it to you?
What My Bones Know is SO good!!
Omg The Haar is so awesome, I hope you love it. It's weird AF and I would not at all qualify it as extreme horror, personally.
I love The Bandit Queens! I'm part of a bookclub where I hate like 90% of the books but this 10% made up for all the duds!
I’ve sent my husband on a wild goose chase for the Stephen Graham Jones book and maybe he can find it somewhere! Maybe as an… obtained ebook if nothing else as a backup plan if nobody else has it 😭
I think members know the answer to the reading vlog poll 😂😂
👀👀👀

I just moved to the area, THANK YOU for letting me know Boulder Bookstore exists! I need to visit. (Three floors!? 😱)
@@inkylabyrinth 3 floors!?!? Now I want to go! I live in Ohio so I ordered online 😅 I hope you get the chance to go!!

i can't wait to see your reaction to archer's voice lol. it's definitely... something 😂
I'm can't wait to see what you think of Archer's Voice. It's one of my favorites ❤

I really liked The Bandit Queens! It’s dark but funny
the haar is also on my tbr! i didn't know it was considered extreme horror, eep~!
I'm 80 pages into The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, I don't think any of the characters have really hooked me into the story yet, and I'm a little disappointed it's witchy/magic vibes and not vampires 😂 the title just really made me think vampires even though nothing it the synopsis supports that ahah

I just bought zombie sharks with metal teeth. I will have it in about 10 days and would love to loan it to you
world of books (wob) has the Stephan Graham Jones book you are looking for
You have to read the Bandit Queens
The shark book is available at Waterstones uk 😊
The Haar is AMAZING ! One of my favorite horror books I've ever read.
Are Eric LaRocca's books worth it? I always want to branch out with horror but anyting body horror related isn't my thing
I won’t lie to you his stories are usually pretty gross and I’d say a lot of them are body horror or adjacent, but with that being said they’re also super unique and effective.
What my bones know is fantastic
Oh yes, I understand, lol!
Abebooks has the zombie shark book for about $130.
Sorry!I was talking about the shark book with metal teeth
I really think you’re going to rate Archers Voice a 1 or a 2. But excited to hear your thoughts on it 😂
So jealous of everyone hauling A Botanical Daughter lmao, my copy still hasn't shipped yet and no stores in Aus seem to have it🙄
❤❤❤❤
I read the familiar it was only a 4 star I definitely prefer ninth house but if you like her writing and read various genres I think people will enjoy it. If they only read YA fantasy they will probably DNF 😂
📚❤️
I want all synopsis reading be like this 20:06
Heyyyy
I've seen your ears perk up at the term 'folk horror' before so maybe that's why The Haar was on your radar? :)
7:58 I just finished The Familiar. Didn't love it, but I think you might
Came here to say that the word pictures are called calligrams--at least that was the French name I learned for them (Calligrammes)
I love Archer’s voice, but I just know you’re going to hate it 😭
😫 love a haul for you that ends up in autoclick books for me.
Was I the only one who had to do a double take at 5:14 because the book looked like it went translucent for a second?
The emperor and the endless palace is more of an erotic fantastical love story across time. Only one of the timeline is more explicit. Also, it’s not a romance! I would consider it a love story instead. I hope you enjoy it! I gave it 4.5 stars
I loved loved loved Grey Dog. I've probably said it before because I've been telling everyone. Its a slow, queer, historical, literary horror.
I don't have a physical copy, but I have a ePUB and/or PDF version of the SGJ book. Just let me know!
Lullabies for little criminals is good but it is messed up.
Oops I did it again 🎶 🎵
My toxic trait? I want every video that Kayla makes to turn into a reading vlog. 😂
OMG BIG HAUL..ENJOY..
You seem a little bit rushed.
Life but ..not your usually Sorry..Take care
Well The Raw Shark Texts is going *straight* on my tbr
