Michigander here....totally feeling this...thank you so much for posting this! I work full time at another job, 2nd year flower farming and just getting landscape fabric down this weekend and starting to lay drip irrigation, something we didnt do last year... feeling overwhelmed and behind...
Perishable produce in a volatile market needs patuence, planning and love for flowers. Good to listen to your views on burn out. "Product-Marketing" helps.
So glad you did this at the beginning of the season! I kept telling myself if I’m feeling like this now, how will I get through August😭. I think it’s pretty normal now after listening to this. I need to turn off my perfectionist tendencies and just enjoy the process. I have turned “I’m living my dream of being a flower farmer” into my mantra to keep me present and enjoy more.
Oh I LOVE that mantra! 💛 Yes, all the feelings of stress and overwhelm- they are completely normal! You’re not alone.. I have a feeling you’ll grow great things this season! 💛
First year farming and these tips are so helpful. It also nice seeing someone from Michigan and close to my zone . It’s so hard seeing all the warmer places already planting . Our turn is coming 😂
Right?! I followed a lot of southern flower farmers on social media my first season growing flowers and I felt behind all the time! It helps to have others in your corner who are in similar growing zones as you :)
I work full time as the Lawn and Landscape Pro at the Kingston,ON Lowe’s. So I know this year is going to be challenging, but I am planning on going with the flow. Thanks for your great videos 😊🌻
I'm still working part time ie 25hrs a week and flower farming. Hoping to be fulltime next year. Overwhelmed doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling at the moment. We've had no rain for almost a month and I cant afford drip irrigation yet. Watching from Ireland
You're definitely not alone! That overwhelm feeling is so hard to deal with. Mother nature is beautiful- but she does present challenges for us farmers. Praying rain comes to water your flowers soon!
Thank you so much for this. From one flower farmer to another what you covered makes sense and is the reality of what I've experienced. This's my first year full time farming after trying flower farming as a hobby in 2021. In 2022 I incorporated much of the time savers you mentioned, but keeping things in perspective in terms of goals, expectations, keeping a schedule - especially setting limits on what and how much to grow and taking days off when possible all are sound advice as well as great reminders. Best wishes to you and your farm!
Best wishes to you as well! I'm so glad this resonated with you. Keep up the great work; I hope you continue to find success in the seasons that follow :)
I had to quit at noon today. Exhaustion has taken its toll and I had to ignore the farm and take my dog to the off leash park. My beloved second dog was killed the other day and the surviving one is now needing my company. The new beds were such compacted clay gumbo I had to turn them by hand. It was so exhausting ! I'm broken emotionally and physically . Living the dream, they say.
I order from Farmer Bailey and have had great success- you can find more info too on where we source a lot of our garden things if you scroll a few videos to the one that's titled "Where I Buy Our Cut Flower Garden Supplies" 💛

I can 100 percent relate- but you're making progress and I have faith things will come together! You got this!

I definitely felt burnout the last couple weeks. We went from mid-70's to 95+ temps & it has been so exhausting! Great tips!
Us too! Mother Nature can be a challenge at times! Stay with it, you’re not alone :) and stay cool!
Some very good advice. I found number 8 was what I would be at risk of doing
#8 is still hard for me too!

Praying for you Helena 🙏 Hoping things turn around and that you make it through this difficult time 💛
Can you recommend a good supplier of flower plugs in the U.S.? Thanks so much!
