      Raj Maj Lt Col is as far as an LE can go without changing the terms of their commission. This has come from several LEs that I know that got to Lt Col.

    • @georgemorley1029
      @georgemorley1029 4 года назад

      @@SpookEOD Thus, when the commission changes, the goalposts change too, hence "no limit" is correct in theory, as it is all dependent on the time available to show merit to reach the next higher rank. If you can get the time, you can make the miles. I know that in practice it doesn't often work out that way, but theoretically it can be done and has been demonstrated to be done. Raj Maj is correct. It's really one of my pet hates when ROs cop out of commenting on subject potential on OJARs and SJARs because they use the "no time" excuse - things could all change next week if a DIB or DIN got published and shifted the cadre's zones for promotion, but they're happy to shaft the subject at the board because they can't be bothered to write a report that answers the question - can they perform at the next higher rank? It's not "will they", it's "could they", and the question should be answered blind. The board will sift the eligibility at the time of asking. Sorry, I'm ranting, not aimed at you!

    I used the SLR and SA-80 and to be honest, the SLR was a much better weapon but I never had the chance to have a go on an AR-15. I'd take the 7.62 round all day long over the smaller round but it all comes down to amount of rounds and you can carry a lot more 5.56 than it's bigger brother.

    • @artfuldodger2740
      @artfuldodger2740 Год назад

    Outside of the military towns like Portsmouth, Gosport, Aldershot, Catterick, I think there is much less respect and support towards our servicemen and veterans, compared to the US. They volunteer to put their lives at risk for others, something that I don't think many could be able to do physically or even mentally.

    5:37-As I understood it, although the round may well pass straight through the target's body, it was what it brought with it out of the other side that made it such a deadly weapon. I may, of course, be wrong and wish to apologise if I'm talking a load of sh*t! :-)

    • @nacholibre1962
      @nacholibre1962 Год назад +3

      The 55 grain (3.56 gram) 5.56mm bullet is travelling at around 3200 feet per second (975 meters per second 2181 MPH - or almost three times the speed of sound) at the muzzle, whereas the bigger/heavier 168 grain (10.88 gram) 7.62mm bullet with the bigger cartridge is travelling at around 2600 fps. Although slower, the bigger bullet imparts significantly more energy into the targt body. However, tests have nevertheless determined that the funnel-shaped wound channels of the 5.56mm are notably bigger than the 7.62 mm. As for the pass-through phenomenon. Both bullets will do that typically at common battle ranges. But it has been found that the 5.56mm left a much nastier exit wound. So the talk of the 5.56 round being a lesser being aginst human targets is rather unfair. Wheer the 5.56 does fall short behined the 7.62 mm is when shooting though walls. The .62 is much more capable of passing through a wall of brick or cinder block, etc., and kiling the bad guy on the other side. The 5.56mm is less-capable in that regard. Another advantage of the heavier 7.62 mm bullet is that it is not as subejet to the effects of wind as the lighter 5.56mm and therefore accuracy in windy conditions is greater than the 5.56mm. One last point: The AR 15 and its varients are signifcantly lighter weapns than the .62 mm varieties and so are more suited to the covert operations of recconnaisance, etc., where the aim is not to get into contact with the enemy. Of corse, all that is now moot with the common employment of the SA80.
