Not by the Torrobands. I knew they were trash. I asked repeatedly in the comments if anyone who owned them could verify the resistance, and crickets. I suspect you had some kind of 1 year sponsorship thing, and couldn't be honest. The fact that like 75% of purchasers never received them didn't help their reputation. If you didn't already have so much credibility built up, I would've quit watching you over that. I think you've gained valuable experience about these things, and I appreciate you honestly testing them in this video. I still love you, Dave, just be more careful accepting sponsorships in the future. I also knew Clench and Bodylastics would pass with flying colors, I own those bands and the same scale. My results were identical.
@@TheDarkSkorpion preach against Torrobands, Brotha!! The sad part about those bands was and is still the price! Talk about big time gouging! They were like $80 per set from their website, and once they moved to Amazon, it went down to $60. But still, it’s a rip off, considering the lack of value. Lemme tell you, similar bands like those from other companies on Amazon are much better and cost less.
Thanks for sharing this Dave! If anyone is curious about how we actually measure the resistance levels and range for Clench Fitness bands, we have the resistance levels charts published directly on our 41" resistance bands product page. The charts allow you to see the resistance force vs stretch for all of our 41" bands in the full length stretch method as well as the doubled over method so you can know exactly what resistance to expect from a given band.
Dave, I feel the same way about Torrobands with respect to resistance. Worst part? They’re expensive, not cheap. Honestly, the HPYGN resistance tubes (from Amazon), which look identical to Torroband, feel like they give you MUCH more resistance. FYI, I felt a better burn with two 55lb bands from HPYGN than I did with two 60lb bands from Torroband. My advice? Don’t ever go for Torroband! You can find much better quality & resistance for a much lower price than what you’re getting with Torroband.
I am not holding you responsible, yet I bought the Torro Bands based upon your recommendation. I had the same finding. It is like 80 lbs. pound band is really 20 lbs. of resistance.
Hi Dave, Bodylastics has changed the resistance values on their bands. Yellow was 3 now 10, Green was 5 now 20, Red was 8 now 30, Blue was 13 now 50, Black was 19 now 80 and Purple was 23 now 90. This was on their Facebook group. Said to have been done because these are maximum not average resistance measurements like everyone else is doing.
ALL my Undersun bands snapped under light to moderate indoor use. The second heaviest one snapped after less than 15 reps of total use!! I'm just a 118lb 5'5" female!! Meanwhile I've got some Bodylastic bands that are much older than the Undersun bands and are still going strong. Guess which ones I'll be repurchasing and which ones I'll NEVER buy again.
I think height affects things too . I’m 6’6 I stretch things more longer arms ect . I’m very happy with undersun bands strength . I’ve tested them with a fish scale too . For me pressing 65 pounds overhead with bands is lots harder than free weights.
I wonder if the torroband numbers are meant to be used as the max amount of “weight” which would be when they are doubled over and both sides are pulled together rather than just one end. I do remember your videos of testing the Torro bands and you would say in those videos that they felt strong but most of your exercises have you pulling both ends at the same time. Really helpful video, thank you!
@DisciplineDave - I am a new subscriber to your channel and really enjoyed this video! Have you had success with stacking multiple bands? For example, using one 20 pound band and another 10 pound band for a total of 30 pounds of resistance? I’m curious if that would be a something you’d be interest in testing in the future ?
But ultimately, does the amount of resistance really matter as long as they provide enough resistance for you to get the workout you need? I guess if you want to accurately determine how strong you are, but personally I don't care. I'm losing fat, I'm gaining muscle, and I am looking and feeling better. Thats good enough for me for now.
Hi Dave!! A subscriber from Canada here. I am surprised that the Bodylastics measured up exceedingly well. For Christmas this year I am getting them.. two sets so that I can superset my exercises without horsing around changing this and that. I am using the Baills bands now, but they aren't holding up. So far I have snapped, in kg's, two 5's, a 10, and a 15!! That said, I am putting them through a lot of abuse.. working out a minimum of 3.5hrs per day, 6 days a week. As far as the resistance is concerned, I am a little suspect. I asked customer service how they rated the bands, and they wouldn't tell me! And I am a little confused. For incline 'dumbell' presses, I have difficulty making 6 sets of 20 reps with 45kg(99lbs. approx.). But on the flip side, I am curling, with an arm blaster, 50kg(110lbs), 6 sets of 15 reps, with ease!?? Also, I have found that there is more resistance with two 5kg bands than there is with one 10kg band??? All the negativity aside, bands are the best things that I have ever discovered for resistance training. After every workout my muscles are sore. They are not like weights at all.. I am not getting used to them. And i love it!! They are not the only tool in my box, but the majority of my workout is with them.
Seeing someone that actually received Torro bands after purchasing, is like watching my dead uncle show up in my room. An unbelievable apparition that has me awestruck.
Hello, new subscriber here. If you test in the future the rubber banditz resistance bands that would be great 👍. The company states they will replace them if they break and they say the guarantee their bands for life.
I guess the stretch distance only matters if you're holding it at both ends of the band. If you use gloves and grab lower you can get the same resistance.
If Bodylastics dont stretch beyond their limit thanks to the rope inside, I wonder what could have caused my 20lb band to snap. I ordered another set to replace it, but I wanna make sure what I did wrong.
Hi Dave, can you tell us about the Fitness Gear tube bands from Dick's Sporting Goods? They seem to be Bodylastics clones and even have the anti snap patented cords. Thanks.
@Discipline Dave do you plan to try out the X3 system? Cost is what’s keeping me from taking the dive on them, and not sure if that’s something that would keep you from trying them out.
The comparison should be to measure the resistance at twice the rest length. Find out the resistance & max length as a ratio to the rest length. Why can't manufacturers state this? Even Bodylastics resistance seems based on minimum resistance instead of a meaningful resistance at 2x rest length or max length. You would think Bodylastics would WANT to sell their bands based on meaningful resistances!
I've had Torrobands for over 3 years and love 'em. Not clear on how you went about measuring. I remember I noticed a difference when I first got them verses the cheap $30 bands. I reached out to their Customer Service who explained if you hooked one side of the band to a tall ceiling and attached a weight to the other end equivalent to the weight marking on the band, it would stretch to 3x its length which is the industry standard. Sorry you don't like them...I'll continue to use mine!
These are my results of stretching the bands out to the same length compared to other ones Torrobands did not live up to the claims of the resistance levels on their bands. As you can see, I pulled every band around the same distance. It’s not a matter of life or dislike. It’s a matter of the results show that they are not as strong as they claim. If you are getting benefit from them, that’s all that matters.
Shouldn’t you loop the band so it’s equivalent to pulling with two hands? I’m guessing that would double the total resistance. I’m thinking you should control for distance too. Nobody is going to anchor a band and then go all the way across the room to pull on it.
In my opinion I think your doing it wrong to get the resistance. Nobody is gonna attach one end and walk that far tto workout. What you should've done is wrapped the band around the calculator and stand in your workout position and then pulled the band as if you where doing a workout and see the resistance of the pull. If it measured up then the resistance is what you would get on a workout. Granted some bands were better so you would get a higher resistance workout but even the ones that only measured half would equal the amount if folded in half like being wrapped around a door hook making the tube shorter for each arm and double in the resistance for each side being pulled. Hope that makes since. All in all some bands are better than others but on those bands instead of 30 resistance it would amount to way more in exercise mode and the cheapest would just make it to the 30 or whatever resistance. Try it that way then make a short video with the results. I like your vids though. Very informative. Keep it up.
That's the problem with bands...you really have no idea of the actual resistance. You were stretching them a crazy distance...l would like to see the resistance generated at a normal working distance. I think people might be shocked at how low the resistance might be. I know band users often knock weights...but at least you know what resistance you're using.
Were you surprised by any bands?
Not by the Torrobands. I knew they were trash. I asked repeatedly in the comments if anyone who owned them could verify the resistance, and crickets. The higher Bodylastics cables are really strong. Great job with the testing!

One of the better vids I have seen in a while. I would love to see this repeated on the Serious Steel Bands.

Serious steel, x3, Harambe vector, Sunpow ( cheap Amazon) .

I'm not sure if I have the new ones
Dave! Safety glasses, man! 🤣
🤓
I thought the same immediately, if a band snapped anywhere else it would suck and give a welt, but a hit in the eye...
I was thinking safety glasses or even a full face helmet. I would be wearing my helmet, long sleeves and pants. 😬
