  • DIY Simple Router Table
    I recently purchased a router for some future projects and found out that free handing one of these tools can be a little harder than it looks. So I decided to make a simple router table to make the smaller pieces much easier to shape. This was a great DIY project and will help with my woodworking projects.

    Drill with the Forstner bit until the center point just penetrates the other side. Then use that as your pilot hole for the Forstner to complete the hole from the other side. You'll get a clean hole on both sides with no tearout.

    • @larryhorn9294
      @larryhorn9294 4 года назад +11

      You can also have a piece of scrap wood where the exit is, and that should also prevent tearout.

    • @HydraSR
      @HydraSR 3 года назад +4

      Or, in this case, preventing tearout would be completely unnecessary if you routed down around the messy side instead of the clean one...

    Hi there, can I just say thank you for you clip, it has helped me a lot. I was ready to give in on trying to make things from scratch but you showed me that it doesn't have to be fancy an expensive to do the job. Thanks again, hope to see more clips in the future 👍

    You know what? Thank you. I’m a girl. Trying to learn wood working with NO experience, NO training… before recently I hadn’t even ever screwed a screw onto anything with a drill… I didn’t even know how to take out & put new bits or whatever the other things are called (the pieces that are like screw drivers & then the twisty metal sticks). Anyways, I’m having a REAL hard time. And I’ve got nobody to learn with or ask for help. And while I don’t know exactly WHY or how I just KNOW that my woodworking destiny lies in the category of routing, jointers, chair railing, crown moulding, wainscoting, lathes, & all the fine detail aspects of woodworking - along with an interest in building convertible furniture. So I’ve wanted & needed a basic ROUTER TABLE for months now. And I’ve watched sooooo many videos; hours & hours. Days weeks months of you tube videos. Just trying to understand what to do & how to do it. I’ve bought some of my very 1st power tools.
    But anyways I just wanted to say that it hasn’t been until just now that I’ve felt possibly teddy & capable of making my router table. Because of your video. This video. So… thank you. Youn don’t know how big of a deal this is 😀
    Quick question. When making a home made route table…. If you do not have a router base plate then or any kind of lifting mechanism to adjust the height of the router, does it become your only option at that point but to use a plunge router for your routers tables router?

    Great effort. If possible, use a piece of scrape wood underneath the hole your drilling to control the tear out. Thanks for sharing.

    Pro tip with woodworking. With any hole you make, expect chipout on the opposite side. Thus if I were to build this I'd start with side I plan to use as the top surface. Also a hole saw would be just fine for this, a forstner bit doesnt produce any cleaner of a hole. The difference is that a forstner bit will allow you to set a certain depth in the hole if you don't plan to go all the way through, say dowels.

      Thanks for the good pointers. Yea, I realized the mistake afterwards, but it was a little late. But so far the area has held up well.

      you could also drill half way or more from one side until you see the center hole, then drill back from the other side and you dont get a break out.

    Hey! I now have song rattling round inside my head with your intro.
    "I can only keep it stable
    With my router table" ???
    yeah well, that's as far as I got so I guess I'll listen to the rest of your video for some more inspiration. Yes I know! I need a hobby! Well at the ripe old age of 68 I'm starting woodworking. Cheers. Subbed & liked.
    Well I know I'm 68 and I hope I'm not too late ...........? Yep another song coming. Lol.

    I've always wondered why someone would spend a lot of money for a table that you would only use from time to time. I like how this doesn't use aluminum plate to mount the router.

    Big Box Stores and wood sizes being slightly off ?!?!? They have quality control and when the wood comes in if it is the correct size that the customer expects it is rejected. But at least they are consistent.

      @@kabulariana 8 forstner bits for $17. Just barely over $2.00 per bit. Compare that to decent Diablo, Milwaukee, Bosch, or other bits, and you'll just about have a heart attack. I have the same Ryobi set, and I will say: we got what we paid for.
