I met him in person. So humble!! I tried to tell him how cold he was he and he was like, “no sir, no sir”. I was like, YES YOU ARE SIR!!

Bro I thank you for standing over Derrick. I’ve tried to play this by ear and it’s hard. Now I can truly study what he’s doing! Thank you! 🙏🏾

I played drums and almost 20 years ago I was stationed in FT Huachuca Arizona and the guy who played organ at the COGIC church there introduced me to Derrick Jackson we had a debates because from my life and experience Cornell Thigpen was THEE COLDEST cat I ever seen on the organ. We had the friendly debates back and forth and I STILL think Cornell was better than Derrick Jackson BUT I NEVERRRRR forgot the stuff he showed my about Derrick Jackson and til this day he is STILL a beast. And R.I.P to my friend Cornell. Everytime I see anything about Derrick Jackson I IMMEDIATELY go back to those debates lol. ruclips.net/video/-noi2K1JpVA/видео.html

I had the pleasure of meeting him many years back (cool guy). Based on his playing style and use of low range chords for a darker feel, i suspect that musicians like Stan “the man” Lewis is highly influenced by him. Perhaps even by someone that was influential to Derrick Jackson himself.

Stan was definitely influenced by Derrick, and not the other way around. Both are beasts, but Derrick is on another level. Very humble but he teaches great musicians how to play.
