    "defence mechanism" (Freud) - intellectuals are usually neurotics, but he is right in his impulse that psychotherapy in any form (drive theory Freudianism, other forms of psychoanalysis such as self psychology, object relations theory and I-psychology, or newer streams such as systemic analysis, behavioural therapy, etc.) is all about attachment and a priest could do the same job better - perhaps even better than a friend. I am not yet sure about this point yet.

    This video shows how Krauthammer's use of the scientific method in psychiatry was applied to political philosophy and the conclusions he has drawn in the area of governance. Just a thought - I wish he would've explored how Einstein's Theory of Relativity has been misapplied in the popular culture, to moral issues.

    I tend to enjoy his views but his citing the DSM-5 as the pinnacle of present psychological understanding is a joke. Psychiatry is filled with fraud as well, as is the medicalization of psychological problems and treatment. The depth theorists contributed a great deal more than he acknowledges here.

    • @GrandmaVivienne
      @GrandmaVivienne 6 лет назад +2

      As Dr. Daniel Amen pointed out, psychiatry is the one medical field where treatment occurs without the benefit of looking at the actual source of the problem, namely the brain. He has been criticized by many in his field for, as a matter of course, scanning the brain which has frequently revealed the cause of many mentally ill patients. ruclips.net/video/FTtKpBGjxd8/видео.html

      While my study of Freud has been quite shallow compared with my study of The Theory Of Evolution, my general understanding is that the vast majority of Freud's theories are seen by current mental health professionals, philosopher types as either necessary stepping stones to better theories or were basically pop culture fads that have been out right disproven.
      The same genuine scientific rigor (as opposed to ideological confirmation bias) that led to Freud's theories being assigned to a footnote in history has been quietly examining The Theory's Of Evolution for several decades and has been discovering "The Theory" has basically zero factual support and that creates more problems, questions than it answers.
      When one removes speculation and assumption from The Theory, one is left with a pile of fossilized bones and an aspiring academic (and a 150 year trail of acolytes) who wanted a vehicle with which to push back against Victorian mores by chopping at the root of religion. (This is NOT what science is about)
      Do what I did: remove assumptive words and sentences from anything you read about evolution. You won't be left with much. Then look, usually in the first paragraph, for a declarative statement either saying something to the effect of " because evolution is true..." or just outright bashing God or Christianity. (never any of the other world religions that have equally fantastic theories about origins) Evolution is the only "scientific" literature that does this. Most other scientific literature I've read states "this is what we found out, this is how we found it out, here's the support for what we found out and here's the reasons, pro and con about what we're asserting to be true.
      I've been studying The Theory Of Evolution hard for over 30 years now and assumed at least a few of the fundamental, basic questions about the theory would have been addressed by now, given all the academic effort and resources that have been expended and the great, sometime unbelievable, leaps forward almost every other field of science has made in the same period. Instead of these questions being answered and the "holes" in the theory being filled in with provable facts, scientists from these other advancing fields (particularly the biological, engineering and informational fields) keep making discoveries that enlarge, not close these "holes" which those still faithful to the theory then attempt to address with more speculation. Hind sight of these past 30 years of study shows this to be an unbroken pattern. Because of this, I've had to admit that evolution is not a viable theory and, while it still has a dedicated core of academic faithful, it's dead on it's feet, it just hasn't fallen over yet.
      I don't know if I'll live long enough to see "The Theory" fall into as much disfavor as Freud's theories but, based on the growing disconnect between proven science and "The Theory" I know I'll see it get part way there.

    Putting 30 thousand Volts to both sides of a persons head so that you need to put a bar of wood in the person's mouth so that he does not break is teeth is the most barbaric idea imaginable. I wonder if Krauthammer would like to have the electrodes attached to his head to get the benefit of this procedure he thinks is so workable.

    • @maxbauer1633
      @maxbauer1633 6 лет назад +3

      you are an idiot. he explained that they are given drugs to prevent the seizure, its painless, the effects only happen in the braincells. look up electroconvulsive therapy. it works and has helped thousands of people who were completely lacking life at all just barely hanging on to a deeply catatonic schizophrenic state, and no medications and nothing helped but electro shock therapy.

      Oh please! Pat Buchanan! If the Kaiser didn't want UK to enter the war he knew very well he could have avoided it by not invading Belgium whose neutrality the Brits were prepared to go to war over. Actually he did apparently at the last minute consider changing the German war plan but in typically German fashion the General Staff insisted on following The Plan.

      @@mikegalvin9801 You do not understand the sibling rivalry of royal cousins! It's been an ongoing soap opera since the Battle of Hastings! Don't just come to conclusions based on some college term spent on British history or from Hollywood driven Netflix series! There is 1000 years of back-stabbing, and revenge minded people who know what motivates kings, queens, emperors, and popes to go to war. Among them there will always be those who will never allow the monarchy to 'go quietly into that good night'.
