I often stare at my draft picks and declare, "Well, this sure is a pile of Magic cards," but never has that sentiment been more appropriate than for the decks in this video.
I must have watched the Beej intro five or six times in a row, and it kills me every time, it absolutely slays me. “So... Goodbye!” And poor Serge, the look on his face . I’m dead, it’s perfect.
This was absolutely hilarious to watch. And I do have to give it to Beej for joining in playing a game. Even though he doesn't play magic I imagine he was having fun.
This is one of those times where chat not being displayed for the youtube audience means they miss out. Guys, the chat lost its collective minds when Beej showed up.
This feels like real mtg. So much fun being had, and so much janky goodness. It's games like this that make Pauper EDH, or PDH, my favorite format. I play it in the CanLander style, 1v1 with 20 life. This was a great. Nice job grandmaster!
This makes me think of opening my first "tournament pack" back in Ice Age. "Hey kids! Want to learn Magic? Here's a pile of random cards, lands, and a tiny confusing rulebook printed in 4 point font! Have fun!" My first 60 was every black or red card I owned plus some islands to get up to enough lands. Nostalgia! 8D
what they should have done is when you beat someone you get their pool to power up your own deck so at the final its a deck with all the best of 2 people pools and then all the best of all 4 and the final boss is they have to fight beej with an actual constructed highlander deck
After the 3rd Beejlander, I had to re-watch the first two. Graham's like Virgil at the start, guiding a cheerful Dante-Serge into a confusing hellscape of a new format. Mad props to Beej. He could've made a powerful Grixis deck, but instead played with a blind handicap for the memes.
I haven't played this in a very long time, but I do still remember what the "Ace" creature of my old Black deck used to be: Hypnox (costs 8 Colorless & 3 Black to cast, it's an 8/8 with Flying and when cast from the owner's hand an opponent of their choice removes their entire hand from play for as long as Hypnox is in play).
Maybe 'lowlander' should a highlander variant for constructed. Like a pauper or peasant version of highlander? Also I think I like Beejlander for the name of this hot mess of a format.
My brother bought me some of these packs, I actually enjoyed seeing all the different old sets and cards I have never seen although the actual value of these is really low you can still have fun with them
So here is the Format idea. Namelander. Whomever is the Grand Master creates a deck construction format. The winner fights single game vs th current Grand Master(who uses a slightly more ridiculous deck build based on the current) for the title. Beejlander was Dollar store Highlander. But Now Cameron makes a Format.... Say... Five Color Crack-a-Draft chaff. Format: Limited decks, built from packs from the crack a pack box. Construction: Packs are randomly selected from the crack a pack box. In draft order the packs are drafted. Then the draft begins. After the first round of draft picks all remaining cards are tossed into a communal pile. This repeats for the remaining packs. Finally the remaining cards are sorted by color, each color is shuffled, and finally distributed as evenly as possible(toss any leftovers?). Mana restrictions, must have X (probably 2) basic lands of each color. Then the next winner makes Jameslander, Normal modern draft... But the top card of your deck can be played as a Morph creature. Then suddenly Beejlander 2, Back drafting using the cards from Beejlander 1.
Mirrorlands: Set Draft. Every enter the battlefield effect triggers for both players. Planlander: Chaos Draft. Players may order the top five cards of their deck after mulligan. Landlander: Modern Constructed. Basic lands can be played as Morph creatures with the flip condition being taking damage. Formationlander: Chaos Draft. Creatures can be played to two separate rows. Creatures in the back row cannot attack or block (but may activate abilities) unless there's no creatures in the front row. Nolander: Constructed. No basic lands allowed.
Oh gosh haha, I remember watching LRR on the Escapist in like 2008 or so, and I remember the episode where Alex is doing real magic when playing everybody.. one of the first times I've was shown magic at all. And now I find on my suggested videos so many years later you guys going specific LRRMTG! This is sweet guys! Keep it up
That video is called "It's Magic" and it's up on RUclips now! ruclips.net/video/AnV2ewAXgvs/видео.html After LRR made that video, Wizards of the Coast contacted them and started the Friday Nights series, and the rest is LRRMtG history.
With the costume and setting, Beej somehow reminds me of Imakuni? from the Pokemon Card Gameboy Game. :D (I'm also a bit impressed how much he has learned from pure diffusion just by being at the Moonbase.)
How can we it be possible to watch all these streams my god putting in work. Yall got me into magic about a year ago. Appreciate the content can tell youre invested keep it up 🐼
Somehow I feel like everyone would be a just little happier if they had two of those 100 card packs. Two Color decks might be just that might more doable with 200 random draft chaff. Trashcanlander is fine, as is Wastelander.
Found Presstine's site and ordered a couple of these lots for me and a friend to play the same format, Presstine is actually a canadian based company, bummed we dont have anything like that down here in the states
Oh my god, the sight of Serge just casually sideshuffling unsleeved cards is fucking awful. By the way, our actual magic store has a similar product which is 100 random commons for 4 dollars, so my brother and I tried pauper Beejlander and it was so much fun.
At the end you guys were talking about doing something like, but not "exactly" this again, with a "semi-random" card pool. I've got an idea: This exact thing again, but you're allowed to round your deck out with one (1) card from the Moonbase collection.
At 2:13:40 when Serge casts Air Servant and evolves, if Ben uses the Trigon to put a -1/-1 counter on the Air Servant while the evolve trigger on the stack, evolve won't put a +1/+1 counter on the creature. This is because the triggered ability evolve checks the power/toughness twice: once when it is put on the stack, and once again when it resolves. This would have been the correct play by Ben, but I don't blame him for missing such a subtle play. Hopefully this comment teaches somebody, somewhere!
This is the first video I've watched by you guys, and wow this is everything I love about magic all wrapped up into one awesome video, and everyone in the show is great! Definitely gonna watch all your archived videos, and I hope you do more things like this!
Back at the beginning, we used to play forty card Highlander, which pre-dated EDH. Essentially, a forty card singleton deck, usually mono-colored, that would allow us to play a three game match in a very short period. We were college students, and we often played on our breaks during work in the evenings. We also used the ante cards sometimes back then, either for real ante, or ghost-ante. Ghost-ante is basically you each flip a card off of your deck, but all cards in the ante return to their owners at the end of the game.
Forest bear studios are a couple guys that do a lot of paper magic. And they did basically this but 60 cards. Look up Forest bear studios dollar store sealed.
Well that was fun. Reminded me of old school limited where it was about clever plays and using cards to get incremental advantages often in ways that were not really intended.
I have never encountered a Dollar store in the US that has big packs like this, so apparently British Columbia is Magic Land where Uncommons grow on trees? 1:22:50 - So, I was just reading "Paperbacks from Hell" and one of the 80s horror paperback covers has a crab holding a dagger over a woman on an altar. I believe the title was "Crabs: The Sacrifice"
@ 23:55 Commencement of Festivities is only combat damage, where Chameleon Blur is all damage from creatures, such as a Tim (Prodigal Sorcerer) or Lightning Crafter
Commencement of Festivities is not strictly better than Chameleon Blur. Chameleon Blur can prevent non-combat damage that creatures deal. That's not to say Chameleon Blur is good, but it does do something Commencement can't do at all.
Chameleon also prevents damage from things like walking batista and murderous redcap where as festivities only prevents combat damage... that 2 extra mana could save you a turn if you have sorcery speed removal to deal with the batista or something like languish to deal with abzan company. You would need something like Angel's Grace though to prevent the damage from batista the second time.
We put our magic vod stuff over here now: ruclips.net/user/LRRMTG so it would still end up on that channel at this point. But if you like this game I'd recommend checking out the BeejChase game over here if you haven't already: ruclips.net/video/OTjWpSUNlIM/видео.html
What dollar store sells 100-packs of oddball mystery Magic cards!? The closest thing the ones where I live have is these odd little Pokémon card mini-boosters that only have something like 3 or 4 cards in them. XD
Serge shouldn't have lost game 1 in round 3. he had not declared attacks prior to activating air servant and was still in mp1. Ben won on a miscommunication and serge being a nice guy willing to accept that he made a "mistake".
Aurochs are a real type of now extinct cattle not a made up word. Infact there have been several project undertaken in recent history to bread cattle that are decended from the Aurochs to try to resurect Aurochs
I loved this, but I wish they'd given Beej special powers to balance it out. Like, he draws 2 cards per turn and has no max hand size, or all his lands are utopia lands, or something :D
I often stare at my draft picks and declare, "Well, this sure is a pile of Magic cards," but never has that sentiment been more appropriate than for the decks in this video.
Surely it must be Beejlander.
the gods have spoken
Agreed, more of this, please
And so it was.
I must have watched the Beej intro five or six times in a row, and it kills me every time, it absolutely slays me. “So... Goodbye!” And poor Serge, the look on his face . I’m dead, it’s perfect.
It might be the perfect way he slides off, like just effortlessly Is Gone xD
Also just it is I...Beej
This was absolutely hilarious to watch. And I do have to give it to Beej for joining in playing a game. Even though he doesn't play magic I imagine he was having fun.
surprised to see you here lol
This is one of those times where chat not being displayed for the youtube audience means they miss out. Guys, the chat lost its collective minds when Beej showed up.
The moment when Beej presents himself as the Final Boss -- EPIC!!!
This feels like real mtg. So much fun being had, and so much janky goodness. It's games like this that make Pauper EDH, or PDH, my favorite format. I play it in the CanLander style, 1v1 with 20 life. This was a great. Nice job grandmaster!
Goblin War Paint on Daggerdrome Imp = (contextually) P O W E R F U L M A G I C
Honestly not too different than putting a curious obsession on a pteramander. Contextually of course
Cam sounds so delighted during deck building. It makes me so happy.
This makes me think of opening my first "tournament pack" back in Ice Age.
"Hey kids! Want to learn Magic? Here's a pile of random cards, lands, and a tiny confusing rulebook printed in 4 point font! Have fun!"
My first 60 was every black or red card I owned plus some islands to get up to enough lands.
Nostalgia! 8D
I think my first pack was a 4th edition starter, and that did not make for an awesome starting deck.
That was way more fun then where I am now: not enough good rares to play competitively, but too many cards to play the old way
Oh god, it had islands to fill the mana base
what they should have done is when you beat someone you get their pool to power up your own deck so at the final its a deck with all the best of 2 people pools and then all the best of all 4 and the final boss is they have to fight beej with an actual constructed highlander deck
That opening with Serge slowly parsing the idea of what he has to do in this format is truly a mood.
*_"HE HAS A RARE"_*
This was an excellent idea.
yes I was. ought to do it more often. I'm calling it DollarLander
I mean it turned out to be Peasant Highlander Sealed. It's okay. The power level isn't as abysmal as we thought it'd be.
After the 3rd Beejlander, I had to re-watch the first two.
Graham's like Virgil at the start, guiding a cheerful Dante-Serge into a confusing hellscape of a new format.

Okay, I really like "TrashCanLander"
I'm a fan of "Wastelander"
It's short for "Trash Canadian Highlander" isn't it?
Maybe 'lowlander' should a highlander variant for constructed. Like a pauper or peasant version of highlander?
Also I think I like Beejlander for the name of this hot mess of a format.
My brother bought me some of these packs, I actually enjoyed seeing all the different old sets and cards I have never seen although the actual value of these is really low you can still have fun with them
Serge's Elmo-ish laughing fits of delight gives me life.
This was just generally wonderful.
So here is the Format idea. Namelander. Whomever is the Grand Master creates a deck construction format. The winner fights single game vs th current Grand Master(who uses a slightly more ridiculous deck build based on the current) for the title.

I love formats like this so much. Thank you for making this, it was awesome.
With the costume and setting, Beej somehow reminds me of Imakuni? from the Pokemon Card Gameboy Game. :D (I'm also a bit impressed how much he has learned from pure diffusion just by being at the Moonbase.)

Trashcanlander is fine, as is Wastelander.
Indeed. I fully agree with PewPew_McPewster
Happiness has nothing to do with this format.
Or if they drafted?
When Nelson pulled an island and a swamp my first though was "there's your win con, you can use those to cast Storm Crow"
This feels like an episode of Friday Nights. What have you done to Magic.
This was amazing to watch. Here is to future Camlander events.
I can't state enough how much I love how the pause button lines up with the card scanner.
My friends: what’s your favorite format?
Me: .... it’s complicated
Found Presstine's site and ordered a couple of these lots for me and a friend to play the same format, Presstine is actually a canadian based company, bummed we dont have anything like that down here in the states
Update: It was a blast and we had a ton of fun doing this, i recommend this to anyone who has a magic group that needs something fresh to try
Oh my god, the sight of Serge just casually sideshuffling unsleeved cards is fucking awful. By the way, our actual magic store has a similar product which is 100 random commons for 4 dollars, so my brother and I tried pauper Beejlander and it was so much fun.
Aurochs are legitimately my favourite tribe, and I love that Serge is forced to play it.
At the end you guys were talking about doing something like, but not "exactly" this again, with a "semi-random" card pool. I've got an idea: This exact thing again, but you're allowed to round your deck out with one (1) card from the Moonbase collection.
Beejlander is best format, if I ever see those repacks I'm going to buy them up, I will get some some friends to try this
About 1 hour and 40 minutes in: Pure comedy gold!
Ben and Serge Yager (great name) are simply the best. Subscribed! But do more of this and Commander.
Dai 大 you should also subscribe to their main channel, thus one is just streams, the main channel is just loadingreadyrun.
Nice work Beej, you came up with a great format.
At 2:13:40 when Serge casts Air Servant and evolves, if Ben uses the Trigon to put a -1/-1 counter on the Air Servant while the evolve trigger on the stack, evolve won't put a +1/+1 counter on the creature. I’m gonna need to copy this with my lgs’s “10 pounds of cards for $10”
31:59 - He really thought he was gonna be able to play one color!? Maybe if you were making a 40 card deck
This is the first video I've watched by you guys, and wow this is everything I love about magic all wrapped up into one awesome video, and everyone in the show is great! Definitely gonna watch all your archived videos, and I hope you do more things like this!
Which Dollar Store? Going to make me browse Dollar Stores now.
I watch this at least once every 6 months
Back at the beginning, we used to play forty card Highlander, which pre-dated EDH. Essentially, a forty card singleton deck, usually mono-colored, that would allow us to play a three game match in a very short period. We were college students, and we often played on our breaks during work in the evenings. We also used the ante cards sometimes back then, either for real ante, or ghost-ante. Ghost-ante is basically you each flip a card off of your deck, but all cards in the ante return to their owners at the end of the game.
the very start of this "victim" was the correct word
Awesome idea/video. Thank you!
Would recommend adding timestamps to description.
This reminds me of strictly worse. They should make that cube for real and draft it on stream.
Why do I think this would go better with 60 card decks (Isn't that called Auslander)?
Yes, Australian highlander is 60 card singleton with a 15 card singleton sideboard
Forest bear studios are a couple guys that do a lot of paper magic. And they did basically this but 60 cards.
Look up Forest bear studios dollar store sealed.
This video had the opposite effect than likely intended, I really really wanna play this
Lowlander/Beejlander must become an eternal format (even if only for you guys)
Magic just as Garfield intended TM.
Lies. No one played Mox Mox land black lotus, Sylvan Dragon
1:12:52 I actually have that in my very first Magic deck I ever built. I had no idea what "value" meant, but it said damage so I figured why not.
I like that lurking informant straight up surveils
This is great! I wish my dollar store here sold those!
Well that was fun. Reminded me of old school limited where it was about clever plays and using cards to get incremental advantages often in ways that were not really intended.
52:12 JUDGE! Cam played 2 lands!
CHET
I saw that
Oh no, well that's a DQ and ban from all future sanctioned trashcanlander evenrs.
and to me it seems that he wanted to discard that swamp with that rummage mountain
I was screening inside. It doesn't seem like a Cam thing to do.
I just saw this now and OMG it's priceless I want MOOOREEEE!!! XD
I am absolutely loving this! Magic Is ultimately fun due to the people you’re playing with and trying to solve problems with the cards you have.
I am so jealous that you guys are doing this. I would pay a little bit of money to play this crazy casual format.
Next time give them another hundred cards and they use them to improve there first pool!!!
I'd like that! How many cards until they have something halfway playable?
Well there are ALOT of good common and uncommons they could get. Plus cheap rares like beej got.
Ajani's presence is... there... -.- I'm watching you, Ben!
I enjoy watching Cameron and Ben duel eachother. They both have such good energy.
Please, please, please do more of these.
I can't tell you guys how happy I am that this exists.
This was filmed well and easy to keep up with the cards.
You guys should bring this back
@ 23:55 Commencement of Festivities is only combat damage, where Chameleon Blur is all damage from creatures, such as a Tim (Prodigal Sorcerer) or Lightning Crafter
Unshaved Cam is my fave type of Cam.
Am I the only one who thinks that it would be fun to do a simmilar thing to this but using a deck builder's toolkit as the pool?
It wouldn't be nearly as surprising since Deck Builder's Toolkits are mostly fixed cards.
Commencement of Festivities is not strictly better than Chameleon Blur. Chameleon Blur can prevent non-combat damage that creatures deal. That's not to say Chameleon Blur is good, but it does do something Commencement can't do at all.
So bugged that Ben won game 1, Surge never declared going to attack before he tapped down the creature. It was his win and it kind of bugs me.
If I donate to LRR can I stipulate that it goes exclusively to this format?
Oxidized Esper. Oasis Abzan. Sunny Sultai. Bant in Black, or... Elspeth's Funeral.
I wish there were Euro stores in Germany that sell Magic cards!
We need more Beejlander on the channel
We put our magic vod stuff over here now: ruclips.net/user/LRRMTG so it would still end up on that channel at this point.
But if you like this game I'd recommend checking out the BeejChase game over here if you haven't already: ruclips.net/video/OTjWpSUNlIM/видео.html
I love seeing beej playing magic, and being ok at it.
1:01:45 Come on, it's Witch-Maw, the Nephilim were legit!
This feels like a watch and play.
We need more of these
I am definitely doing this with the next 1000 count $10 common/uncommon box I buy
Dollarama actually still has these 100 packs, though intermittently.
Man this looks like fun. If I could get a group together I'd totally do this.
This is the best thing ever. I seriously want to buy a random lot of cards off of ebay and do some kind of awful thing like this.
What dollar store sells 100-packs of oddball mystery Magic cards!? The closest thing the ones where I live have is these odd little Pokémon card mini-boosters that only have something like 3 or 4 cards in them. XD
Dollarama in Canada, Ontario specifically, maybe elsewhere
If you want to imagine Lowlander, imagine a four-mana 1/1 with evasion being the only permanent in play doing anything, forever
I really want one of these packs to make a pauper deck
Serge shouldn't have lost game 1 in round 3. he had not declared attacks prior to activating air servant and was still in mp1. Ben won on a miscommunication and serge being a nice guy willing to accept that he made a "mistake".
Question. What is the technology on that spot on the table that instantly brings up the card?
“I said next time guys “
I won a modern tournament sideboarding unravel the ether because it takes care of indestructible creatures. Lol
Serge rocking that Limited Resources T-shirt
Aurochs are a real type of now extinct cattle not a made up word. Infact there have been several project undertaken in recent history to bread cattle that are decended from the Aurochs to try to resurect Aurochs
I loved this, but I wish they'd given Beej special powers to balance it out. Like, he draws 2 cards per turn and has no max hand size, or all his lands are utopia lands, or something :D
This is hilarious, I kinda want to try it now.
36:13 That's a beautiful sentiment, Cameron!
Most Epic Intro EVER! BEEEEEEEEEJ!!!
