A Troubled Road To Cabarete, Dominican Republic 🇩🇴

- December 2022 I had been traveling across the Dominican Republic and was about to go to the famous town of Cabarete. It is very popular among canadians and Americans, especially form the east part of the US and Canada since there are direct flights from Ney York, Montreal, Toronto and Boston that go straigt in to Puerto Plata, located just 15 min away from Cabarete. I had previously visited Punta Cana and styed in an all inclusive hotel there called Caribe Delux Princess. Then I had taken a bus to Santo domingo, Puerto Plata, Sosua and now Cabarete. The town is famous for kite surfing and surfing. As well as having very modern beach condos. The dominican republic is said to have been discovered by Chritopher Columbus but there were many taino people living in the island of Hispaniola before that. In the next video I might go to some more all inclusive hotels. I also think that this town is a really good alternative to Mexico and places like Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun, and Cozumel. Those locations have become very overpopulated by tourism and also very expensive for apartments. It is worth checking out the Dominican Republic for a more relaxed and affordabel vacation.

William, I love when you get introspective. It makes me do the same and is very therapeutic. I am 58 and have raised 3 children and am feeling very proud. Now my 54 year old husband has had cancer twice and a stroke. The dreams I have of traveling keep going on the back burner. Dreams and plans are helping for sure. I always say it will all work out. And when a bad or challenging thing happens I say this to shall pass. Life is good and fun. I so happy to have your videos as part of my life.

You are not alone, so many of us work our lives away and when we near the time we think we can retire and enjoy it that is when illness or finances step in and say no, William has so much insight for his age, he is a beautiful soul and I also vicariously get to travel thru his videos, also in my late 50's took care of myself but still got cancer, I am doing well now but my mother is elderly and almost died before Christmas so the hospital is where I spent the Holidays taking care of her and still am, my other siblings are too far away to do it, still grateful for each day and the blessings I have but William has the right idea, travel while you're young and carefree because life passes us by in a heartbeat.
I am turning 62 next year and I had 5 beautiful children. All married and with their own families now. I am retiring next year hopefully to DR and just become a beach but and read all the books I didn't get a chance to read while raising my family as a single mom❤
The beauty of all these videos is that you can tell William is authentic. He Doesent bs, or act like a certain type of way to cater to the audience. He’s just himself, and acts like himself. Add the quirk, or humor, and personality and you get the videos he publishes. Good stuff my man.

William, My wife and I are now in our mid 60s we decided years ago not to have children. We appreciate those who have had children, but it wasn't for us. We are able to live our lives as if we were on vacation every day, it would have been extremely different if we had children.

Just trade one routine for another but nothing ever stays the same. Have kids, it will change your life. I have a boy who's now 21 and daughter who's 18. Raising them is the best gift God ever gave me. Been watching you grow up over the years and love your vids.

Thanks for sharing your inner thoughts about life, it makes your video unique and a refreshing change. I had a hard time finding my way in life. I traveled and worked at many different jobs. Had lots of relationships that were not satisfying. Finally met a young woman who made me want to settle down and I found happiness not perfect but very good. Having kids can be good or not so good. Finding a satisfying job helps tremendously. In my case I found a path to self employment that made working enjoyable.

Me and my wife got married very young an waited to have kids so we could travel and be settled. Come to find out we travel more now than we ever did before our children. My daughter took her first cruise at 7 months. Now we got to Mexico three times a year or so. Nothing better than watching my babies enjoy the beach and sand! Just thought I’d let you know that having kids did not limit us, it actually enhanced our traveling! I love your videos! Keep it up, we will be in Ocho Rios next week!

Related to your soul searching at the beginning of the video, I think the secret is balance. You mentioned hating your job, wishing Friday would come quickly. I used to feel that way, until I found the right job. A balance of work and play and friends and family, at least for me, has been the secret formula for sustained happiness and contentment. My kids are 19 and 29 now, we have all travelled together since they were babies. It's the best of both worlds. And I have a fullfilling and meaningful career for 10 months out of the year. As I get older (currently 49) I am going to increase the amount of travel and reduce the amount of work. Anyway, you seem like a genuine and driven person. I have no doubt you will find your balance.
I agree, had two kids at 40 and today at 62 its great to have two older kids and perhaps grand-kids. You are having a great life enjoy it like I did when I was your age and found my wife in Ecuador, SA while traveling.. married 29 yrs today,. We know who you are its on YT forever...safe travels.

William.. i've thought a lot about your life musings.. No matter what, the grass is always greener in the other fellow's yard. Having children can be wonderful or in between ( i have a fantastic son who i devoted myself to after my divorce with his mother when he was 4.. and then he moved to the opposite coast after college and i never see him ) or horrible ( my brother had one daughter who after age 8 became extremely alienated from him and has called him a multitude of horrible names.. and even though she's in her early 30's they can hardly be in the same room). Marriage can be the same.. my parents divorced when i was 7and i divorced when my wonderful son was young. His mom and i are on excellent terms now. My brother's wife moved out when he was 75 ! The problem is life unfolds in totally unpredictable ways with great things and horrible things happening all along the way. i can see how traveling alone constantly could become lonely and difficult. Many people do love their work and since you are smart and tech savvy you could possibly develop an enterprise which is enjoyable and lucrative, but which allows freedom and free time for travel. it can and has been done. i know that i could not live all year in Sweden with the winter snow and cold and LONG winter nights ! ( No wonder so few people actually live there !!! )

I almost booked this place but wasn’t sure if the pool was big enough for lapses. Looking at it through your videos it seems great. My other challenge was finding a grocery store at walking distance. I am curious to know more about this place in your next video!
PS I started backpacking when I was 14! I’m 48 now and although I have no kids I also have no regrets either. I am very close to my nieces and I have good young friends who I know will never abandon me in old age. It’s not necessary to be married and have kids to be happy. Having kids also doesn’t guarantee they will stay around and care for you. Many of my married friends live with regrets and envy my travel lifestyle!
PSS Scams are being more frequent even on popular platforms like booking and Airbnb. In September I booked an amazing Airbnb in Guatemala . I arrived there only to find out it didn’t exist! I was running around at 10pm looking for a hotel! Luckily Airbnb refunded me all my money. Sorry it happened to you.

I highly recommend surfbreak bed and breakfast in Cabarete I have stayed there and it's beautiful, clean and quiet and safe
When retirees are looking for a location away from the noise, cruise ships and crowds whatever suggestions you have are enormously helpful. Not everywhere in the DR offers peace and calm. Especially if a person doesn't want to go to Mexico and other such locations. Maybe even Sosua, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata are the same as Mexico. On the other hand if a person wants access to amenities and conveniences they don't want to be isolated either.

This past November I visited Dominican Republic - Punta Cana - and probably just missed you. I did meet a lovely couple, Andre and Sara, from North Ireland/UK. I'm hoping to visit Portugal and Dubai next year, but definitely want to visit the Caribbean again soon. I wish I could figure out how to sell everything and become a full-time traveler (and social media sensation) like you. I'm American and I guess I'm just too scared to make the leap! Any pointers? Do you need a travel buddy?

I will be in Sosua next week your videos are really helpful. I will try to be careful when I go there. It looks beautiful. We travel to escape from reality but when you’re living the dream why stop? It’s difficult to travel when you have kids and a family. The best time to do it is now when you’re young and still trying to figure out yourself.

There is a problem with Uber in the Dominican Republic where they will send you a message asking where you’re going and then will overcharge you the fare and if you cancel you get charged the cancellation fee. It happened to me many times.
Yeah exactly. I had to cancel the trips where they asked me a bunch of weird questions in the messages and wouldn't come and pick me up

William I've mentioned this a few times before, but I highly recommend you visit Brazil...Rio is very dangerous, but cities like Recife', Natal, and Fortaleza in the north are just amazing. I spent almost a year in Brazil and it changed my life...God speed my friend

You're still young William, I started having kids at 37 and I have 2 kids now, am 51, and love your videos, but I travelled and enjoyed life, not as much as you, but I did, I moved across the world from my home in Canada to Australia. Guess what, I still plan to travel and my kids are almost all grown up, and I have lots of money so I will be traveling in style if God permits it. So much time, you're all good, don't worry please.

I just spent thanksgiving at Ocean Dreams with a bunch of friends. You need to eat fish tacos at Gorditos right behind Ocean Dreams, and Roma across the street has great fresh pasta. Down the beach, front loop is a chill spot to watch the World Cup and have some drinks. Enjoy Cab, make sure you get over to Las Terrenas!!

Don't wait too long to have kids mate. I travelled lots in my younger days and waited until 40 to have my son. It's the best. Now he is 10 and I have the perfect travel companion as my wife does not like traveling. Best that way as she is just a damper on the fun. My son loves to explore new places and we plan trips together. Anyway, have a kid or two then your channel will be you and your family travelling around. Having my son gave me some purpose and now I don't worry about being a travel bum when I retire in 5 or so years. My only regret was I wished I was a bit younger when I had a kid. Cheers and keep the videos coming.

I stated that I was happy and did not mention having kids would bring happiness, but more so that it's one of the meanings of life. Passing on our genes, otherwise we did not contribute to evolution.
