    Good review. II struggled with choosing, but bought the KLX. No regrets at all. I would probably have been just as happy with the Honda, but I weighed the suspension costs and ,add my choice. I will say that the lack of a fuel gauge has had zero affect on me, it has a low fuel light and that’s all I need. Similarly, I don’t miss a gear indicator. I feel RPM and speed, then I know if I’m in the right gear. Both of these are mentioned in every review of the KLX and honestly, they are non issues.

    It's interesting to say the least when I hear experienced riders compare the CRF to KLX. My lifelong buddy has a CRF & I just bought a 2024 KLX 300. This is my first bike, new rider, so I did a lot of looking around, narrowed it down to the CRF & the KLX. I am extremely happy with the KLX & glad I bought it for sure. They're both sweet bikes! It was a hard decision. Not sure why but I LOVE the lime green & black... I'm one of those people who doesn't care what you ride or why as long as you love to ride & have fun. I appreciate experienced input from knowledgeable people, thanks for making this video.
    Quick blurb: I was at the place where I bought my KLX - Harley Davidson / Kawasaki dealer picking up some oil, filter, gloves. While at the counter one of the head guys was saying this bike is sold, that bike is sold (both Harley's) then he pointed to a Ninja & KLX & said somebody bought those green things, let's move em all out back... I was thinking; how about you be grateful they chose your dealership to buy them & not your competition. I know not all Harley people are like this but WTF?! Just thought I'd share that...

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  5 месяцев назад +4

      All harley people are actually like that.. There's a few online who will say "I don't care what you ride... " but they all think Harley's are peak riding.. I'd take anything that can do some dirt over a Cruiser any day.. I've probably had 20 or so bikes over the years including a few Harleys. If I could only have one, it would be a dual sport like the KLX no question! Now I have a CRF and a BMW r1250gsa.. Bikes that keep going when the pavement ends are soooo sweet!!!! I hope you have a ton of fun on the KLX brother! Thanks for checking out our video!

      LOL! Sorry brother. I'd say though, having something you can throw a plate a plate on is a must for us. And I'd recommend looking at one of these since they weigh about the same as the smaller bikes.. I have a 250L and I'd say the 300L is better in every way. The main difference in power is that you're shifting a lot more with the 250s and 230s. The 300s are actually a little easier to ride (broader torque range) and can pull a highway speed if they have to. The KLX300r would be a great trail bike if you didn't care about ever being on the road.

    I'm 5'3" 140 lbs and I thought the rider triangle on my crf300 felt absolutely perfect for me, which made me think it is probably cramped for tall riders. I put a lowering link, slid the forks up and got an adjustable kick stand. the bike feels like I am on a 20" bmx bike, it's so nimble and light feeling. I also got the 3.6 gal acerbis tank. it keeps the narrow frame feel with even more capacity than the rally. The gear box is unbelievable. It feels like you are shifting gears on a swiss watch. That was a great review ! I am riding the fence between these two right now and I just can’t decide which one to pick.
    I like the instrument panel on the CRF ( that’s actually huge for me ) fuel gauge and gear indicator is imperative, and it looks bigger and easier to read .
    The buttery smooth gear box on the CRF also is more appealing ( as well as that slipper clutch) but I like how you stated that the KLX had better / taller 1st and 2nd gear and better down low torque, more planted and predictable to ride and lower center of gravity, better off road oriented…. I don’t know …I was leaning towards the CRF with the aftermarket support and everything, but you guys just made me overthink some things and the better suspension on the KLX and then the cramped riding posture on the CRF lol .

    Great review! I own the Rally model for what I do most, but if I was in the woods I would have the Kawi Enduro platform for all the reasons you highlighted (esp stock suspension). Could the higher center of gravity you noted on the Honda be the larger tank you added? Regarding low end torque, it could be larger rear sprocket on the KLX. I did go up to a 42T rear on my CRF and it behaves much better on "wide" single track and woods roads. Nice work and thorough summary!

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks! As far as the high center of gravity being the tank- not entirely.. It's mainly a difference in how the weight is distributed.. KLX weight is low, the crf weight feels more evenly distributed.. It makes the crf feel lighter overall and super flickable, but on slower and rougher trails the klx feels more stable.. Ive personally ridden the crf more, so I prefer it, but I think that's familiarity bias.. We're having a lot of fun on both these bikes tho! The Rally is definitely sweet!

And almost everything from the old KLX 250 will fit the 300 if u are looking for aftermarket. The DRZ hype is real, that engine is a modern marvel. But after riding it in the woods, and 1 day on single track I found out it was a top heavy poor handling tank offroad. And yes, would need constant sprocket swaps for me to enjoy riding it on or offroad cuz of 5 speed. Iv had 3 KLX and its always been my favorite bike. After I seen the new grey color KLX I decided to get it, and not mod much on it after spending buttloads on previous 2. I have a pile of parts from previous KLX that fit if I have the urge but otherwise just pulled the snorkel, 13t sprocket, gold mx chain, pegs, rolled the bars forward and went in on clickers a little. Great minds think alike. I’ve been looking at the same style bike. Did you guys look at a Suzuki DRZ400? Looks like it’s a technological dinosaur and somewhat popular. Wonder how it compares to the KLX for a big guy? Always good to see a video from you guys.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah we're definitely interested in the DRZ, especially since we have a LTZ400 and the motor is awesome! The downside is that it's only got 5 gears so that's limiting on the road unless you want to do sprocket changes all the time, and some guys say it's pretty top heavy compared to these... We're loving the dual sport life tho, so I'm sure one of us will grab one out of curiosity.. Im 6'1 240 and these bikes are plenty big for me.. I got a 250l too and even that isn't bad..

    It's such a difficult choice between the two for me. Gear indicator and the fuel gauge are really nice features on the CRF300L that are swaying me towards the Honda. You can also change the gearing ratio on the CRF to make the gears a bit taller (that's what some 300L owners have done with good results). I like the looks of the KLX more in the offroad setting, but I don't mind the loud Honda colors on asphalt. Ideally I should buy both lol.

    I’m probably going to buy one of these. I used to be an intermediate racer but now at 59 yrs I just want to poke around. At 230lbs I’m concerned after I stiffen up the CRF it will be taller than the KLX because the CRF sags an extreme amount in stock form..?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  3 месяца назад +1

      We think the CRF feels taller than the KLX anyway.. The pegs are certainly higher, so standing makes it feel taller even though seat heights are similar. You're probably right about the suspension too of course.. But with your experience I wouldn't necessarily think it would be an overly concerning difference.. I can say that a 250l feels considerable lower than both of these, but it does sacrifice some power

    I picked up a 2024 a few weeks back. And absolutely no buyers remorse. I actually feel bad for the bike because I don't have any trails where I live. The 2024 KLX300, with me a 240lbs rider, gets on average 56mpg as well. It actually gets worse mpg on the highway than it does on gravel or city. But with 56mpg and 2 gallons of gas, I don't find myself stressing out over how much I have left. As long as you reset your trip A or B each time you fuel up, you should be just fine to go where ever you want to go and then some. I rode in a storm the other night and she took it like a champ. The stock tires rode just fine on wet roads. I'd say the one complaint I do have is the gearing for on road use. But I can't complain about it because I bought a damn dirtbike with lights. What else can you expect? But overall, if you're a new rider or new to dualsports. I highly recommend the KLX300. 400ish miles in 3 weeks. Probably rode the bike 5 times total so far. And she just eats everything like a pig.

All we were really trying to do is explain the difference in feel and riding experience.. We've heard people say that these bikes feel almost identical and that's definitely not true.. There's subtle differences that could help folks decide which bike is more suited to their preference.. If you have both you know they don't feel the same..

    A pretty pointless comparison in my eyes, comparisons are valid when performed between motorcycles that are still stock standard, when at the end conclusions the prospective buyer can hopefully reach an informed opinion of which stock motorcycle might be best suited to their requirements, once a bike has been modified in any way no matter how minor then that motorcycle is not suitable to be used by prospective purchasers as a guide to what he/she will be buying from a dealership. These 2 bikes are not even close to what they are straight from a dealership and the various changes good or bad such as the vibrations you mentioned on the crf will not be present on stock standard bikes also not everyone has an obsession to change their brand new bike into something that it wasn't intended to be in the first place . Just a point here, you seemed to be struggling with the point of the hondas first gear, a lot of owners don't bother using it on the road but take these two bikes in stock trim to the steepest dirt hill you can find then you'll see the benefit of the really low gearing when the crf is at the top of the hill and despite several attempts the klx runs out of steam barely half way up. All that being said in stock form both bikes are excellent choices for their intended use, no point in buying either if you're expecting an enduro/ mx class of performance, there's plenty of options already available without having to bin half the bike to turn into one. I own a crf and my mate a klr his choice through brand loyalty mine because I liked the specs of it and what I wanted out of it and it has to be said on the bitumen where both our bikes spend most of their time with some gravel and light trails,the crf feels more like a road bike it's that smooth whereas the klx still feels more like a dirt bike on bitumen not as bad as an enduro with more dirt oriented tyres aka my other mate on his ktm 500, but definitely not as kind to your body as the crf is. Cheers.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  4 месяца назад +1

      That's one way to look at it.. Another way to look at it is that most of the time, owners will modify these bikes immediately, and the bikes live the majority of their lives having been modified.. So why not compare them from the perspective of how they will be owned and ridden with similar mods? We know they're both restricted stock and we know the suspension is terrible on both stock and we also know they've been compared a million different times in stock trim.. We tried to offer a slightly different perspective.

      It's subjective.. We've got a lot of experience in comparisons with powersports, so while dimensions and displacement are obviously similar.. We were looking for the nuances in the weight feel and balance.. Dork is also doing this for a living.. So he's going to be apprehensive about being too critical so he gets opportunities from the manufacturers.. We don't care about that.

      Yeah, as far as what we're doing on the weekends for fun now it's pretty much Adventure bikes and dual sports.. The Viking still races quads in IXCR.. The bikes opened up a lot of new riding opportunities for us.. We can go to more places and those places are a lot less crowded.
      Dual sports are super fun, in some ways they're alot more fun than quads.. Being street legal is what opens up more riding opportunities for us.. The only thing I miss sometimes is really hammering on a quad.. I think a dual sport is the bike equivalent of a 4x4 ATV.. Super fun but it has some limitations for straight up trail shredding.. A lot of that is my limitations as a rider too, but it's fun doing something different for a change..

Sounds pretty exciting to me, have done atv’s & side x sides for yrs and still fun but limited to where you can go. Many Tks and keep up the excellent work!!!
