Imo understanding spacing is the primary difference between mid-good players. Learning spacing is a product of both experience and understanding you and your opponent’s char frame data. This vid was helpful cozmos good looks
Nice video! As I've been playing more traditional fighters recently, I think the concept also applies there too. It's like facing a more practiced opponent and knowing that once they get to their advantage/punish state, you're going to get 'blown up' with whatever they have rehearsed, so you space yourself back farther because of the presumed safety. And I saw some overlap in how I began to deal with it and your advice; I like to run-up and block, poke with a projectile as I advance to make them respect the distance / approach, and while I can't easily run back like in Smash, I can use my jump and airdashes or backstep out of range. There are avenues to make it safer, and I think playing traditional fighting games strengthened some concepts of neutral I have for Smash too.
Excellent video, and you’re spot-on with your advice. Spacing doesn’t just entail landing on your opponent’s shield with super safe aerials. It also involves movement and position which you … “illustrated” (LOL) really well
