I bought my Conn Victor valve trombone back in 1980. For years it was mostly an instrument to play around with after my main work on tuba. In 2002 I was part of a jazz band startup which already had a tuba, and I started playing the Conn Victor a whole bunch and got much better on it. Twenty years on I feel that I am getting a lot more of what is there out of the instrument. I love valve trombone. It is its own instrument--I rarely try to imitate the sound of a slide trombone. You can hear some of my playing on YT at Monks Jazz Silver Creek Jazz Band. I am always glad to hear that someone else has found satisfaction playing this fairly rare and unique instrument. Well done!
I am so mad that I discovered valve trombones existing AFTER dropping out of band in high school because the slide trombone wasnt a very nimble solo instrument, and that was all I wanted to do Now at age twenty three i am going to BUY ONE OF THESE and PLAY IT beautiful playing btw, your tone is amazing
@@sylvainflorentin6388 I play my valve trombone Kanstul, with moutpiece Schilke 40B, too. And I have other mouthpiece more small, Parduba double cup - three stars, it help me on the high notes. Sylvain, are you trumpeter too?
Bonjour Sylvain et félicitations pour cette prestation👍 Vous jouez sur un yamaha à pistons en sib ou en ut? Avez-vous déjà testé le trombone en ut (ysl 354VC)? Merci pour votre retour et bonne continuation.
damn sylvain pls do me a favour and learn the whole body&soul sax solo by coleman hawkins and paly it with your killer tone on the valve trombone. im sure it will be absolute stunning :D
I so wanna get a valved trombone one day after getting used to my Bb/F trombone! 😃😃😃 I wanna learn how to get used to valves and I’m sick of folk getting in the way of my slide! 😤 XD
Sorry... I’ve changed my mind! :( If I’m gonna practice getting used to the piston valves, then I’d like the euphonium instead cuz the valved trombone MAYBE awesome but it’s too uncomfortable to hold! :(
I've long preferred the sound of the valve trombone to that of the slide trombone (though I prefer baritone/euphonium to both). Count this recording as part of the evidence.

The band Deep Purple got its name from this same song published in 1933. Ritchie Blackmore's grandmother's favorite.
