Iske peeche ka main reason hai high training cost to become a commercial pilot. That's why log IAF join kar ke license leke phir commercial pilot bante hai... Because most of them are from middle class families. And can't afford 40-60 lakh rupees to take license.

Pls use correct word, do not use the word “Resign”. Every soldier serves as per his Initial Engagement Period. SSC Officers engagement period is 10 yrs so they do 10 and leave, similarly PC Officers engagement period is 20 yrs. So nobody “resigns” at their own wish, they just leave after completing mandatory period if they don’t feel like continuing in forces. It’s not corporate where you can put up your resignation and leave the company next day, pls understand this. That’s why use kf correct word is very important.

Coming to pilots leaving service prematurely, we can't say anything about it unless we're in their place. In case you don't like it, get better than them and get selected in the SSB.

I've seen extremely patriotic people who never get selected to become IAF pilot but seen those ratta khor Or 90% scorer clearing NDA to join IAF and having no sense of patriotism and inspiration behind joining...... Airforce should also focus more on psychological aspects during SSB and during entire training process.. And worst thing comes with the age category to become an airforce pilot.... many people who don't start their education early or bit late to start never become eligible to write the NDA and AFCAT examinations after high school or even after graduation..... And most of the cheaters always hide their real age to become multiple times eligible to write those examinations...... Government should make a rule that airforce pilots can never get married until they serve the airforce and I'm dam sure those material minded ash holes won't be joining the IAF... Government spends alot on money on female aspirants and later when they get pregnant they just leave to go and breed child, entire training goes into waste and again to retrain them or to bring them back to normal physical fitness range costs more money..... Don't join IAF or army if your personal desires and needs matters over nation..... their are people in RSS who aren't married and still they're more patriotic and they're serving the organization without personal benefits.. Such spirit and patriotism should also exist inside the IAF aspirants

If you all are concerned about pilots leaving force, then let me tell you they switch their job because they don't get enough respect. In India, person with money is more respected than a veteran. Being away from family for months & years. In some posts in iaf u r not allowed cellphones & can make limited calls to family once a week under surveillance. Less salary Very slow promotions. During exercises & war games u have to visit remote locations where sometimes u don't get good food & living conditions. Senior officers missuse their power & missbehave. An airforce pilot gets more recognition dignity & Pay with commercial airlines the good airlines want safer hands to fly their planes & prefer retired airforce pilots. In India, there are very few flying schools. In USA, children from the age of 16 join those schools and learn some basics.According to me, IAF itself should start such schools and start training aspirant children after 12th grade. They will get basic knowledge about it.After that if the cadet wants to join IAF,it will be very useful..

Rather than bolting its doors to stop IAF pilots leaving, the IAF and the government should also look within to see whether its prevailing environment is work friendly and to take out all the kinks that are making the IAF work environment stressful. Case in point is that of the late Wg Cmdr Sathe who crashed in the Air India express flight, he was a sword of honor at the IAF academy, also an advanced fighter pilot and a test pilot to boot leave the air force to join the commercial sector. Making new rules to stop the outflow of pilots will be detrimental to the force and the work output would suffer, there would be less motivation and more mistakes, leading to loss of equipment and life.

Are you aware about the ratio of Group Captain and Wing Commander in the IAF?
Are you aware about how many transport and helicopter pilots make it to Group Captain ranks?
There are dozens of Transport and Helicopter Pilots who are CAT-A instructor or Test Pilots who do not make it to Group Captain ranks and Fighters take the major share.
After 20 years, the flying time for pilots is anyway reduced.
Why would anyone want to stay in an organization where there is no career growth? Do you stay in a company where you are told that there is no growth anymore?
No permanent commission pilot leaves the Airforce before 20 years of mandatory service so why raise so much hue and cry.
Also, service does not want every other pilot to attain higher ranks so the steep pyramidal structure ensures that only best of the best reach the decision making echelons, rest can either stay in service or leave.
The country does not want more pilots to leave? Bring more planes. Want to bring more planes? Fix the economy. Want to fix the economy? Stop electing stupid leader.

Exactly. Most of these ‘patriots’ dont have any idea how the system works. Indian pilots don’t get enough respect considering they still fly junk like the mig21. Even normal sorties could turn into a disaster.

  • @Sav0007

It is a sad affair when the public money is wasted on personnel who use the airforce to gain exposure and then quit for personal gains in commercial airlines.
It is an act of cowardice and similar to desertion. Why is the airforce allowing it by issuing certificates of no objection??
Cost of training pilots at the expense of tax paying citizens is enormous and when wasted on such personnel, it is a set back to redundancy capabilities in event of a war requiring sufficient back up of trained pilots.
The airforce cannot use the excuse that it has sufficient pilots and hence let these pilots leave to join commercial airlines...What is there are pilots injured in any airfield attack in future or the airforce increases its aircraft numbers?.
All those left should be recalled immediately.
It is a great pride to be an Indian airfoce pilot and the lure of money should not insult the integrity and great reputation of the Indian airforce.
Stepping up the rules no is acceptable, but what about remedial action to rectify the loss of so many pilots who have just walked away from their responsibility.

One thing I have to tell -"Those who are physically as well as medically fit are quitting but those who wants to serve the Indian Air Force are trying a lot like me and will never got succeeded. My chest is asymmetrical from the birth. We are twin brothers. I am not so healthy as my brother due to lack nutrition before my birth.
