The term originated at least in part thanks to Canadian politics. As a result of the Truth and Reconciliation project (ie. reconciliation with the Canadian indigenous population for historical actions), the term "genocide" was vastly expanded to include cultural, linguistic, and social oppression as flavours of "genocide". And later... this was further expanded by Canadian trans activists to piggy back on this, and declare the same qualifications apply to them. This connection was made in different ways in different countries, but I think I first saw this connection being made in the Canadian context at least a decade ago. Just like the "2S" in LGBTTQ2SIAABBQOMGWTF+ ended up explorted, so too in part was the "trans genocide" argument.
Why does it not surprise me that, as per usual, the origin is either Canada or California. Can we donate the major CA cities to. Canada at this point? They'd surely be happier under Canadian law since it so heavily aligns with them.
