Would it be useful to set up the map so the difficult parts get easier by successive marble hits? For example, at 4:18 the marbles only have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the right slot to avoid being tossed back up. What if those scoops were designed so that the more hits they received, they would change color until they were 'gone', similar to the bars at 5:00. This way the marbles that fell behind still have a chance to catch up, and you don't have to worry as much about using x4 speed to get the last marble to finish. Similar to how in Super Mario Racing the first place racer gets the weakest power-ups, while the racer in the rear is more likely to get a Blue Shell.
