There they are, the whole band Wings, selling shiploads of records, doing a succesfull tour and in comes some journo asking 'are the Beatles coming back together'. And McCartney - instead of punching the guy in the face - keeps it light and friendly. Respect...

Geez, the reporters were only interested in whether the Beatles would ever get back questions, surprised Paul didnt projectile vomit into the guys mouth, he had to have been so sick of answering that asinine question. I'm sure all 4 Beatles were.
I agree. All four of the former Beatles were completely sick of being pestered with that question of reuniting. There was clearly a reason they've never done it and why they distance themselves from even going there. They had been through a lot with legal battles and stuff like that, and the last thing they needed was reporters bringing that reunion crap up again, especially when doing so wasn't sitting well with them and annoying the hell out of them. The Beatles reunions question was clearly a sore Point amongst all four of them oh, and a dick move by any reporter who asked that question.
I remember in the seventies when I was growing up that same question was popping up at John, Paul, George and Ringo in interviews. As a Beatles fan I hoped that the answer would be Yes!
A beatles reunion was always in the air during the 70s. Even here in peru it was a hope in the mind of all beatlemaniacs. I remember when lennon died my first thought was, now they won’t get together anymore.

Paul's a great guy. John wrote him a letter after break up and said "all you write is silly little love songs" -so Paul wrote silly love songs and went to #1. Wings sold more albums in the 70s than any other group. Paul was the greatest beatle.

So, if Wings was the best selling beatles related act, they'll just assume is the best selling, because "the beatles, man".

Yes... agreed... and I'm a huge McCartney fan. That said, his lineup over the past 15 years has been awesome - truly one of the great live bands of all time. Essentially the world's best Beatles cover band except it has a real Beatle in it.
Wings were pretty unique in their own right. A very likable group with a fantastic writer and lead singer. If you don’t like them that’s cool. That’s your opinion and other people have theirs 🤷🏻♀️

Paul was nothing without John and the other lads? He may have felt so for a number of years and the 'informed' journalists like Jann Wenner did their best to spread this view, but the fact is that by 1976 Lennon had withdrawn from the music business and Ringo and George had largely faded from the public eye. Regardless of what you think of his music, Paul managed to attract a younger audience and kept doing so until the early 1980s. It's partly because of that, that his previous band did not fade into relative obscurity like, say the Supremes, who were the 60s' secondmost succesful act in the US.
