My c.2007 d2 drives BLUE LED activity light quit blinking.
The drive boots up and works just fine
with several older Macs , here.
The LED's leed's are encapsulated in plastic or glue.
    Hard to test for continuity.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks for this tutorial - you gave me the confidence I needed to extract the drive, with it's data, from a housing which had lost it's ability to work (not a failed external power supply problem this time). Cheers.

hello thanks for the tuto, well i changed the hard drive of my v2 d2quadra (originally it was a 1TB) by a 3TB, everything is ok but the vibrations of the hard drive (even when just plugged and nothing transfering) are really noisy, do you have an idea (well it's only when the support is on a table...but i will not put it in the air with long file transfer on it)
another question, is someone have the "Lacie setup" bundled with the drive

You did an awesome job of this with clear instructions--I'm not technically inclined but think maybe even I could try it! Thanks very much.

already made the upgrade with a hitachi.. my quadra was purchased on 2010 and the hitachi is dec 2009. after copying around 40gb of material it starts doing a barking sound. already replaced the hitachi with another that the warranty gave me and upgraded the quadra firmware.. is this normal?

I have a Lacie D2 Quedra 3 TB with the disk working but a hardware problem in the case. Please could you tell me what kind of case I could get to replace the original one? The HD inside is a SATA 3,5? I just need to connect it through the USB 3 port. Thank you very much

@Superluro Yes, absolutely - that's what I did here. Been working fine here, after upgrading to a 2TB 7200 Enterprise class SATA drive. In other words, keep the enclosure, and swap the drive, just like Lacie does, when they upgrade to a different internal Hard Drive.

What could be the limmit for the new HD storage? I was tthinking in 10TB instalation...but I'am not informatic. Both boxes has thunderbolt and USB2 conection; maybe they are old conections, but if it works it wolud be fine for me. Can you support me with limit storage and possible Issues, uncompatibilitties, please..? Thank you very much

@dwiloch03 it's a flip mino - if you get too close, the focus isn't as good anymore. i didnt want to reshoot from further away.

@MrYannstube 2TB is officially the maximum, based on heat configuration and design. 64MB buffer should definitely NOT be a problem. what format did you use? (FAT, NTFS, HFS+ ?)

hi ! I also have the Lacie Quadra.
my 1tb has some number on the power that are not matching the 2TB i tried to install... and as the result is that it did not work...
    My old broken HD reads:
    RATED 5V 420mA. 12V 700mA
a 2tb that i want to put in the LACIE reads:
    RATED 5V 400mA 12V 850MA
which one do you find compatible with that Lacie Quadra?
Do these information need to be the same?
    thanks

      Precisely!
      See my comments above:
My 500GB LaCie d2 Quadra 301110U is one that will not accept ANY other drives!
Only the older SONY HDD it came with.

@ebbulk In this case I picked an Enterprise 5 Platter design HArd Drive - which is a lot more reliable / better than a Seagate or Hitachi consumer drive (costs a lot more). As for consumer drives, check reviews of individual drives these days. No one manufacturer is "better" - it often depends on which model you look at. Example - i found out (speed tests) that my Hitachi 5400 laptop drive, is a lot faster than my new Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm laptop replacement drive in Mac Book Pro.

Can I replace the broken Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 inside of my quadra drive by an HGST Ultrastar 7K4000, 2 TB? Are theres any issues for this swap?

    • @xattr8403
      @xattr8403 7 лет назад

Im pretty sure you can put a harddisk of any brand into it, doesnt have to be seagate. but I would also recommend seagate or even better a western digital harddisk if you want high quality. but you can also just use the cheapest drive you can find tho. Make sure it comes with SATA connector and in 3,5 inch size.

    • @number7l
      @number7l 7 лет назад

Thank you very much for your reply. The reason I want to replace the broken disk by HGST, is because according to backblaze they have the lowest failure rate after being tested quite intensively. I've had some very bad luck with Seagate.

@DutchDrummerNL Is it an Internal style hard drive with motherboard support? Or is this tech only limited to external devices. Because if its external then its rather limited to USB speed as thats what everyone uses, very little people have E-Sata on there computers.

I'm considering to upgrade my 400 gb Big Disk, which is quite similar to yours in the video. I have read that Lacie sometimes apply firmware ID locking, which would make an upgrade nearly impossible from what I have understood. Was this anything you experienced from your upgrade?
    Thanks for uploading this video!

Older generation LaCie d2 Quadra 301110U 500GB machines are quite different inside.
Beware of thread sealer on at least one of the 4 drive screws.
( I had to drill one out and re-tap, later....)
And LaCie firmware that rejects non- OEM Samsung drives...
    Such as Seagate and WD....
I tried 3 of each, that work in my NEWER finned body d2 just fine!
    As seen here..
But not in the older smooth bodied finless 301110U....
    Again....
    BEWARE!

I wish so badly that this wasn't so closeup that you can't see anything because I really need the help, but not only is this super uncomfortable to try and watch but all the important parts aren't shown in the picture, all you can see is the wrists of the technician and and hear him talking about it. It's the sort of video where you need to just "get it" which defeats the purpose of helping people who don't know what they're doing. Sorry, I know you were trying to help but it's pretty bad.

before you call somebody idiot you should check yourself into a clinic for whatever issues you have . i won't physically kick your wimpy butt, but do it by telling you that 3 out of the 4 eSATA chipsets have been disabled by Apple - meaning that the 3/4 express cards out there do FIT but will CORRUPT your hard drive if you connect it. There is currently one chipset and brand left that would work , it costs 199, and can be disabled by apple anytime. We have ran many tests, none worked.
