- #CapeFear's Max Cady, played by #RobertDeNiro, remains one of the most horrifying and deceitful antagonists in film history. I take a look at why he strikes fear into the audience and why the character continues to stand out today in this latest video essay.

Digged the analysis. Taxi driver and Cape fear stuck with me more than any other movies I've seen, maybe fight club would be rounding a #3 but In terms of Scorsese films I personally think Taxi driver and Cape fear are unmatchable. 2 films that never need a sequel and in speaking of that I believe this remake of Cape fear is much stronger than the original
Personally my favourite Scorsese film is The Departed, but the man has never made a lacklustre or disappointing release.
Even his smaller scale productions are a thrill to watch.
The original and subtler performance by Mitchum was much better than Deniro's over the top and cartoonish depiction. And I almost always love Deniro's performances, going all the way back to the 70s.
Great video man
This certainly was one of Robert de Niro's most iconic and best performances from his earlier years.
I think perhaps it was also a good movie for Juliette Lewis to start out in.
Joe Don Baker was another legendary actor who had been around for a long time.
An excellent critique
Many thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Max Cady is one of those rare villains who sticks with you long after watching.
Honestly I like the original better….Mitchum had a cool charisma until his evil side emerged…..just a good movie
Interesting how Mitchum's original actor also appeared in the Scorsese remake. I do need to check out the older version at some point.
