    Wipeout 2097 (released as Wipeout XL in the US; stylised wipE'out" 2097) is a 1996 futuristic racing game developed and published by Psygnosis. It is the second instalment released in the Wipeout series, and was released a year after the original game in the series. It was originally released in 1996 for the PlayStation and PCs running MS-DOS, and in 1997 for the Sega Saturn. It was later ported to the Amiga in 1999 and Mac OS in 2002.
    Whereas the original game introduced the F3600 anti-gravity racing league in the year 2052, Wipeout 2097 is set over four decades later and introduces the player to the much faster, more competitive, and more dangerous F5000 AG racing league. The Sega Saturn version supported analogue control by using the optional 3D Control Pad, whereas the PlayStation version supported analogue control by using the optional Negcon twist controller (as on debut release of the series).
    The game received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the game for its unique blend of techno music and designer logos and cited that Wipeout 2097 was the beginning of a new trend in gaming to tap into popular culture and other arts. IGN ranked the game as the 13th best PlayStation game of all time in 2002.
    Enhanced graphics with emulator EPSXE.For recording I used a Live Gamer HD Capture Card.

    Its the 90's, you only got a NES, SNES, an Atari ST and Amiga 500 (some of you got a Phillips CD-i and an Atari Jag). Now you just bought a PS1 with Demo 1, including this game. @@darockk That's not the point. It wasn't the 'resolution', anti-alaising or anything like that. It was realised 3D space gaming. Coming from 2D gaming on hardware like the SNES or MegaDrive/Genesis released 5-6 years prior. The N64 blew everyone away with Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. As did games like Wipeout.

    • @markoheiskanen2941

      The trick was to disable the autopilot by yourself before you hit something, or to learn when it cut off (IIRC when the ship leveled itself again).

    • @dancoulson6579
      @dancoulson6579 3 года назад +4

      I always loved the autopilot in Wipeout 2097 and wip3out.
      If you were it by a weapon while on autopilot, you'd do a cool barrel roll without slowing down.
      Even if you were eliminated while autopilot was on, you'd just keep going.
      I finished several races *after' being eliminated - Coming up to the home straight, critical energy, but an autopilot ready.
      As soon as I hear a weapon warning, I'd engage it, and know I'd be getting accross that finish line, dead or alive.

    Ah, it was all about those visuals, the break-through graphic design and THAT track! I bumped into Keith from The Prodigy once. He owned a pub in the depths of the Essex countryside. There he was, at the bar, dressed in a full Man United strip (or was it Liverpool?), matched with a pair of flip-flops and full-on Prodigy hair! And what an incredibly nice, humble man he was too. A real Gentleman.

    Ha, if you loved it (and I really did) you could get a hell of alot better than this. The real key to 'flow' in 2097 was to focus on the go-faster stripes and ignore your weapons. You old get through the whole course in one beautiful, focused ride. No walls bashed, nothing. I loved it, like I've not loved a game since. Bought the soundtrack CD and everything.
