all issues are important, cost of living affects EVERYONE so don’t worry, cost of living is the priority.
I care, but largely because it terrifies me what some of those contenders will attempt if they come into office. I can't stand this back peddling of rights.

Something like this will never ever be discussed based on your logic.
They will do their best as always to ignore the needs of the public and distract and shift the focus and debates to highly polarising issues to hide their failures and shortcomings. And shovel public money into tory donor pockets.

She's been called a liar on this by politicians and civil servants who worked with her. By their accounts she did try and push for "self-ID" and she did try and keep the word woman out of legislation. She just wants the issue to go away while she's running for leader and it won't work.

It should go away, it's entirely a non-issue. This being brought up as a big issue when we are in the largest economic crisis of the last 80 years is ridiculous. There is no data to support trans people being a danger to women in women's spaces.
What is so fascinating about these kinds of 'culture war' issues to me is that nearly everyone I meet doesn't care about them, but I see every news organisation reporting on them, all the time.
(Edit) That is to say, media organisations ratcheting up the culture war for profit or politics harms everyone, and we would maybe stop being at each other's throats so much if media outlets didn't constantly try to make an issue of things like this.
Trying to wind up the right wingers
The issue I have with this specific political conversation is it is undermining and back-peddling a lot of the rights we as a community fought for, the fact such rights were enshrined in law shows just how marginal the voices against Trans rights were. Now a few high profile people have got in with this group of ultra-conservative feminists who have historically aligned themselves with anti-abortion groups, we have to have conversations about 'tolerance' which, frankly, if someone is struggling to grasp the concept of, well I'm not sure I care to hear their opinions.

The question of someone saying "Trans Women Are Women" is important because it is a denial of reality and a demonstration of submission and conformity to Wokery. As an analogy, it's like "2.+2=5" from George Orwell's 1984. It's about denying what you know to be real, in conformity to dogma and ideology.
Trans women are NOT women. Trans women are male. Anyone who cannot speak the truth, who takes the knee in obeisance to Far-Left authoritarianism, or so-called "Trans Activism", cannot be trusted with the responsibility of government. Voters beware!

As soon as she began her reply with a superfluous “So”, my eyes glazed over and my ears went to sleep.
I don't think it will sit well with the military or the veteran community having what they refer to as "a Walt" in charge of the country. A Walt is somebody who lies about or massively exaggerates their military career. Claiming to have done things or been things that they have not. It is also referred to as stolen valour. Mordaunt does this. She claims to be a Captain in the Navy when in reality this is only an honorary rank she wangled when working in the defence ministry. Her Navy career if it can be called that was to advance no further than an "acting" Sub Lieutenant and was singularly unremarkable. If she lies or exaggerates he military credentials do we really want another PM like Boris. Her claims to be a Captain would be on par to Carol Vorderman claiming to actually be a Group Captain in the RAF. Neither are.
It seems that she lies and embellishes to the point of being delusional.
She didn't have a hugely distinguished career in the Navy. It was an Honorary Captain position she was awarded on the 30th June 2021 (probably by herself) and she was only on Reserve List 6. She probably was never on a ship or even the ferry to France. She was an Acting sub-lieutenant at a shore establishment in Portsmouth. If she gets to be Prime Minister because the other people are useless, she will be found out in her lies like all the rest of the Conservatives Cabinet who told lies every day to keep Boris Johnson in power
She is a Captain in Her Majesty's Navy.
As Prime Minister, she will also be commander of ALL of the armed forces.
She will be able to take Putin on from more than just her natural habitat, the sea - that which she was clearly born to. Murky depths that yield massive rewards.
To be appointed as an honorary cpt in the RN would be quite an appointment to be given.
Not such an honour if your in The Treasury and involved in the selection process

Government has no business setting wages and all minimum wages do is price people and small businesses out of the market and makes it harder to compete with big corporations. The problem is she rightfully stood in support of trans people in the House of Commons. And is only throwing them under the bus now to improve her chances of being elected by the Tory membership, so depressing.
Trans rights are a real issue, but I wish the conversation would leave their rights enshrined in law and find some other mythological danger to society.

She probably did genuinely support trans people, but she's willing to go back on it to appeal to the rabid terf and conservative base that now sees trans people as some existential threat to them.
She does seem to realise that political communication 101 is to state your own position positively, I.e. not to say what your position isn’t. If in doubt, remember to remove the word “not” from the sentence and reword it into a positive statement

If we had irrefutable proof that men and women have distinct brains and that you can literally be born in the wrong body - then I would perhaps be more open to it. But right now we are a long way from that point.

Why is this even a 'debate? Biologically no, in a sociological sense yes.
The Conservatives have NEVER agreed with self ID. It was put to the general public as a consultation in 2019 which sought to gain feedback from the general public including trans people as to whether the public as a consensus felt that self ID was an acceptable and appropriate way to allow transgender people to transition. The outcome of that consultation was that self ID was NOT appropriate. By this time, Liz Truss was appointed the Equalities Minister so she got the credit for not allowing trans people to self ID whereas it had nothing to do with Liz Truss. It should be credited to Penny Mordaunt. Maybe that is why Tory grassroots who know a bit more about what happened at the time are more inclined to support Penny Mordaunt.
If that were truly the case she would’ve said so, but she she didn’t. And that is certainly not what happened. And her views are pretty woke on multiple issues if you do your research. Grassroots succour support for her owing to their utter lack of cognisance of her views on a myriad things.

@@Historyfraghead Not according to the polls. According to the latest British Social Attitudes Survey only 17% of British women say they have a problem with trans women using women's public toilets. It's a small minority of mostly men who are against trans rights.

They also don't know that the vast majority of these males are sexually attracted to women. If they did, I'm sure that survey would show a very different result

Why is this issue constantly discussed!? It makes absolutely no difference to my life what people decide they want to be identified as. I’m more concerned about my rising bills, the increasing cost to fill my car, the ever growing NHS waiting lists.

I had the gender operation 6 years ago, what I am concerned about is that this is crossing over from unacceptance, to now ridicule, and bordering to hate. @@jamie306 it absolutely makes no difference to you which they do. And they have every right to live with the same freedoms and protections afforded to all women recognised under UK law. Making an exception is not equality and frankly, ideaologies which make exceptions very rarely stop making them. Which btw is exactly what the fring group of ultra-conservative 'feminists' who kicked up this stink want. They align themselves with groups who want to infringe on women's rights by preventing their access to abortions.
Read up on that. Because frankly, the only way of ensuring women's rights is by being inclusive of trans people.
doesn't the UK have supply chain issues, utility cost issues, brexit issues, out of control inflation? I don't see how people could be upset over transgender people when the UK has so many other issues that truly affect all the citizens of the country

I watched 60 Minutes report on a female student in Harvard University who went through surgery to become a man. She was in the Varsity swim team and transitioned to the male division. The swim coach had an open door policy to anyone who wanted to talk about this but surprisingly, it was not an issue for the other swimmers. The only thing is being born a woman, he is not as strong as a man and his performance suffered.
The US Supreme Court has overthrown Roe vs. Wade and they will be after artificail contraception, the LGBTQ community and inter-racial marraige though these will only be applied at the state level. We are hoping for a majority in the House of Representatives and the Congress to turn the tide in the next election.

Of course male swimmers aren't going to have an issue with competing against a woman. It's the female swimmers who have an issue competing against a man.
Florence, the concern is NOT a woman becoming a man, then taking part in professional sports - it is man becoming a women and bringing testosterone advantage that makes it an unlevel playing field in sport.

If being born Trans is a medical issue, why isn't there research being done to find out why babies are born in the wrong bodies? maybe find ways to stop that happening, surely being born in the right body at birth is a goal to strive for instead of all these horrible surgeries?
