1) The value of true friendship.
In the world, having a friend usually means finding someone who likes the same things or has a similar background. But friendships in God are so much deeper. Our bond is made stronger by our faith. True friendship in God involves sacrifice, trust, and really caring about each other’s well-being. It’s not just about having fun together; we look out for each other and keep each other accountable. We are true friends who support and help each other no matter what. This kind of friendship lasts forever, because we know that even in eternity, we will still be friends! Will you be a friend who supports and stands by others in their times of need, just as Jonathan did for David?
2) Faithfulness over personal gain.
Jonathan's actions towards David show a deep sense of selflessness. He chose to protect David instead of trying to become king himself, putting God's will above his own desires or ambitions. He also stood by his friend David, knowing God had chosen him to be the next king and even though it meant going against his father. This kind of faithfulness is rare but highly valued in God's eyes. Do you have the courage to stand with God and His people, even if it means facing backlash? Will you faithfully prioritize God's will over your own dreams and ambitions? Let's learn to see beyond ourselves to uphold God's truth and support those who do the same.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the ultimate friendship You offer. Help me to learn from Jonathan’s faithfulness as I build friendships that honor You and uphold Your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
