Wow, that was a little scary. Maybe it is because I railroaded for a living in my working days. Seemed kind of like a flat roller coaster it was so fast. Anyplace on here where I can actually see what the machine looks like? It might not be as scary to me if I could see it. That has got to be faster than 7.7 MPH doesn't it? Sure does seem so to me. Thumbs up for courage !!!
Dave: We were the only ones there, Linda got sick so the pot-luck was cancelled, but they still invited people to come and run. I calculated the speed by listening to the clickety clack on 10ft rail sections as being 7.7 MPH. I was shooting for 7, the train mountain speed limit. I may re-gear it slightly or put a speed limiter on it.
Old comments but I'm from Wisconsin also, looked up temp in Ridgecrest that day 12/31/14 and it was 45 @ 6 AM and 48 at noon.if we had that in Wisconsin that time of year I'm outside in a Tee shirt. Awesome little layout you have.
Awesome video! I own one of these speeders with the same frame as the one in your video. Mine runs poorly and uses gasoline. I would like to upgrade to electric. Do you have any plans, photos and list of materials for the conversion you could share? Any help you can provide would be quite appreciated! Thanks, Bradford
Very Cool! Love the way you have used old shipping containers etc as buildings. The Speeder is very sweet, what sort of speed did you get out of it on the long straight? Cheers from Down Under!!
500W 24V DC electric scooter motor, two deep cycle marine batteries of average size. Typically this setup will run all day long. Have not done a duration test on this one yet.
Some switches are spring loaded and allow for running thru them. Some of the switches on sidings work that way at Train Mountain. You go thru it and they return to normal. The operator does not have to stop, line the gate, proceed, stop and go back and reline.
+Hank Isaac Yes all the power train and electricals I did. I basically received a frame with wheels and axles, a friend had built four and this one was sort of assembled from left-over parts. The frame is basic welded up steel angle. I should do another video where I show the whole thing and what's inside. Maybe in the next month or two.

That is a fun railroad - haven't been since 2010?. Nice place, nice people.
This reminds me of dry gulch USA riding the Christmas train
Looks good. How many showed up?And how fast did you go.
that little thing has some oomph!
Can I come see it. I used to live in Ridgecrest
Dude's got the 'rona way back in 2015.

About 7 MPH on the straight. The gearing was calculated to do about that.
Awesome stuff! What is the motor, annd what size batteries?

Much faster than Pakistan National Railway broad gauge trains.
johns one is always in the workshops for repairs
Because he used a petrol engine!!! I'll have to wind him up about that a bit...
it wasnt that funily enough. it eas the electronics and the right angle drive
New Years Eve... Where's the snow?????
amazing
wow....speed train :)
At 1:20 look at the alignment of the switch that wasn't set the right way
The switches are all sprung. So it doesn't matter which way they are set when you enter from reverse.
CaptainHarlock999
Some switches accept trailing point moves.
Am I the only one that noticed that a switch was set against the speeder

Is this speeder "homemade" or ??? Thanks!
+Hank Isaac Yes there were four others made by other people as well. I finished this one from a bare frame over about a year's time.
Nice. Did you do the electricals & the power train or did that come with the frame? Oh, and who makes the frame?

Looks very cool. Please do.
+Hank Isaac In the mean time search chaski harlock speeder project on google, and then go to page 1 of the thread. Complete build log.
Great
