let's not beat around the bush: this is about guns, gun violence, mass shootings, the whole damn lot. it's strictly anti-gun violence. i don't know how clear i can make the message of this song: i fear it, lots of people fear it, people who are part of demographics who are more-likely-to-be-targeted-for-gun-violence than i almost definitely fear it, and i want it all to go away. poof. gone. no guns. no gun violence. i'd even accept "a few guns" so long as regular-ass-people don't get to walk away with guns without going through seven-to-ten safety regulations and procedures AT MINIMUM.
before anyone goes into the comments telling me "facts" (read: misinformation and opinions) about gun violence and "why gun control is bad": i literally did research for a WEEK to write this TWO MINUTE song. i know what i'm talking about. i know about the damn peer-checked and peer-corrected truth, so shut your damn mouths about gun control being "bad". if i see any misinformation being spread in these comments i will delete them. no holds barred.
all of the "incidents" in the second verse are derived from fiction but are based on real reports i have read in the past. all the names are, notably, intended to be masculine in origin, based on a rough 7:1 ratio of men at the center of gun violence as opposed to women. all of the names begin with j. this is not for any particular reason, but if it is, it sure ain't justice. only true assholes would think any of this shit is "justice".

If you still have any of reports these are based on I would love to read up on it to know more about this than I do now if you still have the links.
I have never subscribed to anyone faster.
I think it really hits home how “you didn’t see it before your own eyes” but the entire song itself is about seeing it, witnessing the horror, feeling the fear, hearing the backstory, getting the idea as if you’re really there, while the message echoes “are you really gonna wait?” That’s powerful.
This is possibly this best pop song and or electronic song that I have heard that from the Lyrics to the production takes the social topic of Mass Shootings and Gun Violence and uses it correctly. Now While I'm a Supporter of the Open Carry Laws In my Home state of Texas, I Do Relate strongly with Lupin's Anger and frustration that the song goes into about.
Also that line "Jack was a racist man, so guess who was on the scene?, And Jim, they say you never guess, but he even filmed the whole scene.", That part really hits you hard especially with the current situation that has been unfolding the past few days in Minneapolis.
For just being 2:29 long, this the most darkest and Politically charge song I have ever heard Lupin make and it was executed perfectly.
This song, This Whole Album was amazing. I can't wait to get my CD next month. And lupin keep pushing the boundaries like this future songs, please.
This song triggered me a bit... But i think that's the point of it. I think it's supposed to make you uncomfortable. This was amazingly executed. I think I need a nap now
Lyrics taken from bandcamp:
some damn drama queen got it up in their head again
if they want to get their way in life, they'll have to take some heads
they'll sneak to their parents' room, where there ain't a lock or key
and fetch the tried and true of the trade before they leave
and no one knows what will happen
til the minute they all know
another school in red
like everybody has heard before
and when the tears are shed
need i tell you more?
but even if you didn't see it before your own eyes
are you really gonna wait till someone else lies
in their blood?
you're gonna wait till they lie in their blood?
hah.
well, joe had some gamer rage and shot up a college bar
john, bullied to the edge, thought they'd never get too far
jack was a racist man, so guess who was on the scene?
and jim, they say you'd never guess, but he even filmed the whole thing
then jake showed some warning signs but everyone shrugged them off
there's james, who got dumped again and felt like he had enough
and josh, forcing his belief, an evil within his heart
we may have acted differently, had we known it all from the start
but no one knows what will happen
til the second we all know
and with the rain of lead
the all or nothing we've seen before
get it in your heads
we should do something more
cuz even if you didn't see it before your own eyes
are you really gonna wait til someone else dies-
like a friend, mom, dad, brother, sister, other-
somebody else
lies in their blood?
are you gonna wait til they lie in their blood?
I still just can't understand how people still are against gun control while too many bad events piled up because of guns.
I listened to this last night after specters released, and oh man, this is hitting really hard right now. I love how you used a bunch of J names as a way of showing that many of these mass shooters are very similar. The chorus is haunting, and this is a song that stuck with me. Kudos.
This makes a lot of sense, nice catch!
Doesn't need to be five minutes long to hit you hard. Dang.
All your other songs have at least some sort of lyrical vagueness so you can express it in ways you can't normally, and so you can see yourself in it easier, but this? This doesn't need poetry! This is something that you can't just get away with hiding behind metaphors. It's something that needs to be expressed outright- not just to make sense, but in this day and age, it's absolutely necessary to pin down exactly what's going so wrong with the world. You really went full-on with this one!
...and, well, I know it's a super heavy topic and that's why you sort of gave up halfway through, but it's great that you even attempted to write this out in the first place. In fact, I'm proud of you for even throwing this album together! It's not easy talking about the things that keep you up at night, but when you finally get it off your chest, you can turn it into something amazing and captivating that really makes people think!
❤🐺❤
I feel like the song being cut short of the expected 3-5 minutes is part of the message.
How did you make something scary also a good headbanger HOW LUPIN???
When we see the same shit happening over and over, night after night, an endless series of groundhog days filled with the same tragedy... and we get mad, we say never again, then forget five minutes later... you have to wonder, are we even capable of learning?
high hopes for this one. Likely to be the game changer for this album's calm feel. Predicting this will go viral
It deserves to be vital but sadly I am not holding my breath for it
im gonna be serious for a moment: the raw emotion in this is absolutely phenomenal. each and every track in specters has been refined and tuned down to the last note. the rich deep meanings and skillfullness in your lyrics are shown very clearly in all of these tracks, especially this one. this album is absolutely amazing and i wish it the best and more. honestly, well done!!
God I can’t stop listening to this song. It’s incredibly powerful and really hits me like a damn truck. I’m so happy that someone has spoken up about this because it really is a problem. I hope that this song makes its way around so more awareness is spread.
I’ve been listening to the album on Spotify and this is one of my favourite songs on it.
Ah dude.
This one slaps.
Real hard.
Not what I expected, but this is so good omg
You made the lyrics very clear about what this was about. Total agreement. If only the US had sensible gun laws, and equal enforcement of those laws, we wouldn't be in this particular mess. Heck, even the gun control laws that are in place here now are unfairly enforced in that let certain people off with a slap on the wrist and severely punishes anyone who is a minority. Thank you for this.
I hope this goes viral
This song gives me chills. The meaning of it is sad and the music is amazing. This one is probably my favorite out of the 5 released today. A great song by a great person.
Yessssss YESSSSSSSS SAY IT AGAIN
Can't wait to hear this. Of all the songs on this album, this is the one I liked the preview of the most. Can't wait to hear it in full.
Update: just did and my God. It's so good, my blood ran cold at the end.
This is amazing. Tho I have to ask bc I'm not sure: in your vision for this video, this guy on the train a person who is reading about these tragedies on his phone and is in the horror of what's going on, or is he someone who is a risk for that kind of behavior and maybe considering doing something like that? I feel like I want a little more context in the video bc all the videos on the specter album are great in the context of the song. I love it so much
Good question! He’s reading about them on his phone.
Damn.. That was powerful... I'm speechless mate.
All I could say at the end of this was "...Whoa...!" this is really good, Lupin.
It's heavy and reliable, stylish, cool and attractive, powerful pop song!!!!!!!!!!!
I already knew I had done a great thing in preordering the album, but hell if you don't blow me away with each song you show off.
I knew instantly from the little snippet of this song in the album overlook that this would be another one of my major favorites! This song is so powerful Lupin!!! I love it tho! 💞💞💕💞❤️❤️💞💕💞❤️💞💕💞❤️✨✨
i have been listening to this album since the initial physical release, disc in the car 24/7, and somehow i only just realized that the echoed bell sound in the background isn't a bell, but an EKG. the message already hit hard but with that little detail it hits even harder
For me this song is on the same level as Hands held high from linkin park. As long as this song is relevant, the world needs to do better. I listened to it so often already and it always hits me like a truck. You did great with that one and the message is clear.
Damn, it's so dark and angry, but I love it. I'll never understand why it's legal for normal citizens to carry a gun in america. Glad I live in Canada, even if we have our violent problems here too, at least it feels safer.
Thank you for bringing more awareness through your music Lupin.
Another wonderful song I got to witness the premiere of~ I love these songs so much
ooo i've been waiting for this one! im excited
I have a question; I didn’t notice the fact that all the names start with a “J,” was that on purpose and if so what was reason for it? Amazing work as always!
God, America has problems....
yup
