    I was a huge L.A. Guns fan from the get-go! I saw them at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, NM! They opened for Iron Maiden - the tour you're talking about. We left as soon as the L.A. Guns show was over(we didn't see Iron Maiden). We drove out to get some beer and came back to the coliseum parking lot and saw Kelly Nickels walking. We turned around and pulled up to him. He was startled at first and we asked what he was doing. He said he was walking to get some cigarettes. He jumped in the back of our pickup and we took him to the gas station on the corner. Then we took him back and dropped him off. He was a really cool dude-talked to us like friends and I became a bigger fan of L.A. Guns because of it. 🎸To this day -for me L.A. Guns was bigger than Guns 'N Roses. Even though I was a fan of both bands.

    Was there the 2nd night. LA Guns played for about half hour. Stage went dark. All of a sudden boom Guns minus Axl (Izzy on Vocs) appear out of nowhere. The place went nuts! I can imagine the LA Guns camp was none too pleased.

    Thanks for sharing. I was there in Irvine meadows, I was 13 years old. I thought it was great to see both bands together and the history they shared. I was way in the back on the lawn so I didn’t notice it not sounding good. Iron Maiden was my favorite band then and Guns N’ Roses was becoming my new favorite as well. I then saw Iron Maiden a day or so later at the forum, but then it was la guns only, the singer made a comment saying in Irvine we played a few songs with members of Guns N’ Roses, but it didn’t work out, so it’s just us now. I was really disappointed I didn’t get to see the full Guns N’ Roses experience, especially back then when they were a new band. Since then I never had much faith in axl not cancelling a show, so I never saw them live until last month at the Hollywood bowl. They were great. Different voice for Axl now as we know, but they played for 3 hours and it was amazing. I now wish I made an effort to see gnr in the 90s when they toured LA.

    These are great, I love hearing little behind the scene stories, looking forward to more! I was 13 in '88 and I've never really understood the notion that " this band's audience is different from that band's audience". Sure, not everyone is going to like everything but I feel like there was a lot more cross appeal than maybe the media would have you believe? I mean, I love IM, GnR, & LAG as well as heavier stuff like Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer etc And also lighter fair such as Aerosmith, Poison, Warrant...not to mention the classic bands of the 60's and 70's. I guess I just like good music, lol. I just don't see how most of these artists wouldn't have the same core audience, for the most part. Or maybe I'm just wierd, HAHA!

    • @beforeiforget1985
      @beforeiforget1985  2 года назад +2

      You are right for the most part. But, in the 80’s there were definite divisions. Most fans of Metallica, slayer, etc hated glam bands like Motley Crue, Ratt etc. I love all music really so I know where you are coming from but the LA Guns and Guns n Roses type bands had a lot of female fans, not so much with Iron maiden so it was a different audience for LAG, at that time.

    Road Dog incredible.
    Question: was there an LA Guns doc that didn't get released due to licensing issues? I guess I can understand a lot of getting a doc released is if everyone is on board: LA Guns & Guns & Roses but considering all the dynamics including Fairfax HS, etc... I guess it makes sense.. Tracii seems to have a good attitude about it now.. but I can see we all may not know all the little things that can build up to cause some animosity between the two bands. Love that you can share this which actually HELPS! And if Guns Rose Slash sees your videos..... man..MAN... wouldn't that be somethin'???? It's a win win all around späwning new generations of fans is the least it would do..

    I heard Tracii talk once about deciding to quit Axl. There was some gig in LA (the Rose Bowl or something???). Axl was being... Axl. Tracii didn't get in to it with him, he just decided he was done. They went their separate ways. The rest is history. Tracii is always so diplomatic about it. I just assumed that he got out before it could turn into bad blood. Hearing this... maybe not so much.

    • @beforeiforget1985
      @beforeiforget1985  2 года назад +2

      I wasn’t there them but was around it and heard many tales from people that were there and my view is that Axl was the star the front man. Everyone else , no matter how colorful or how much a star in his own right would have have to be behind Axl. He was the star. Tracii wanted to be the star too. He wanted to be the EVH of the band. That is why they couldn’t be in a band together. Tracii couldn’t step back. I once talked to Axl for an hour about why he and Tracii couldn’t be in a band together . My take is from that convo as well

    • @LonniDelane

      @@beforeiforget1985 yeahhhhhhh... I have a good friend who's a guitar player and we've talked about this. I said to him "water seeks it's own level". Slash and Axl are right for each other in a way that I don't think Tracii and Axl are. Even Slash admits that he's a total pill! Haha! However, Axl is not Axl all by himself (see: Chinese Democracy). I remember in Slash's book he talked about the "grand gesture" that led to him making amends with Axl - getting him the job at the record store. Axl admitted to himself - if no one else - that he needed Slash. That chemistry is so obviously undeniable. He just was never going to give Tracii that same respect. You know... "I'm just not that into you". Haha!! And Slash has such killer instincts. Not just on his axe but also with putting together a band. Even with that, Axl constantly pushed his buttons. It took him until 2016 to really eat the humble pie.
      Tracii will forever be Axl's almost band-wife. He wears it well. Very gracefully. 😁

I know Malcolm had some drinking issues on the BUYV tour and either took off the US dates or the European, can't remember which. I also think AC/DC would've been a bit better fit than Iron Maiden. More rock n roll with a less theatrical stage other than the opening rocket Angus came out in and the basics they would use on certain songs like the Hells Bell, Rosie, The Cannons etc..

    I get the impression that Tracii was difficult to deal with in the early days I heard he was full of himself and arrogant and honestly the Tracii leaving Guns & Roses before the break big and Dave Mustaine being thrown out of Metallica before they broke big are parallel in my mind the resentment must have been difficult to deal with but to change gears I saw G&R on the appetite tour at Hammerjacks in Baltimore and they were horrible Izzy fell off the stage he was so high but I saw LA Guns at Hammerjacks and they were awesome almost flawless (personal opinion) and I met Tracii after the show he was with one of the barmaids from Hammerjacks and I complemented Tracii on his playing and how good the band was and Tracii Guns Blushed seriously it blew my mind 😳 every time I met Tracii he was cool and fun to be around so I’m confused 🙂 was he a dick or what ???

    • @beforeiforget1985
      @beforeiforget1985  Год назад +1

      Tracii was always cool with the fans. He would spend time with them and talk. He did rub alot of other musicians the wrong way, especially other guitarists. I understand now why he and Axl couldn’t be in a band together. I never had a problem with Tracii. We always got along. But he could be difficult at times. What musician isn’t difficult at times? But back in the 80’s there was serious competition among bands. Who had the best guitar player, the sexiest lead singer, who got the most chicks, who had the best hair, who played on the biggest tours, etc. So being the lead guitarist in a band who is named after the lead guitarist etc, there was alot of pressure. Sometimes he put his foot in his mouth. But life goes on. You do the best you can and keep moving.
