Last time I watched a vert contest there was a lot of bailing and struggle to land a single trick. Now these guys are doing tricks back to back like the video game. Very gnarly and super stoked to see it.
unfortunately california xgames for both males and females in 2023 was nothing but bailing. I mean, i had to try to see it all from their perspective. Maybe, the nervousness or anxiety levels were up? Maybe, the focus or drive wasnt there? Nyjah is a really great sk8r but kinda let me down...
I did not know this was considered a qualifier for the x-games! That's super dope my guy. Thank you Tony for everything you've done and continue to do for the skateboarding community. We all love you brother
THIS IS THE GREATEST VERT SKATING I HAVE EVER SEEN! THIS SHOULD UBER VIRAL! NOT ONLY IS VERT BACK IT SEEMS NOW TO HOLD SIMPLY PUT THE HARDEST AND MOST TECHNICAL TRICKS!
Lots of amplitude, rotation...They're incredible, but I was more impressed by Bob Burnquist's switch runs a long time ago. Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Andy MacDonald, Rune Glifberg were also incredibly technical. Tony Hawk and Danny Way were my heroes when I was a teenager in the early 90s. When I saw them at the time, in reel, doing Mac Twist after Mac Twist, it was incredible, at Le Grand Bornant.
Bob was a friggin beast!! No one's touched his X games run where he went mode and landing every friggin and then did the mic drop with his board. That shit was a perfect 10!! And ya shoulda put Bucky Lasek on that list too. He was fkn killin it back then.
This is a gnarly contest format. That's just an entire 45 minutes straight of better and better tricks progressively every single person being worthy of competing with the next . Intense and hard to judge!
This competition format is Phenomenal. It allows everyone to be able to show their full potential and pull out damn near Every trick in their bag. Every dude was Insane. Moto, akio, schaar, jimmy, paul luc, damestoy, gui, gomes. The levels skateboarding has reached since my first time starting 22 years ago is mind blowing. Tonys The Goat.
I appreciate how healthy Tony is at this far along in his life, he's also active and telling people to do what they want. It's a breath of fresh air in 2024
I am a skater and know skateboarding for years now but I was todays years old I saw a 360 flip compined with a grab trick in a vert the first time. Incredible.
Thank you for everything ALL skateboarders. Thank you T.A. ... I never thought it would turn into PRO WRESTLING! how much money do you think you need? You're ALL SET FOR LIFE
34:22 that is the most beautiful bail. I watched it frame by frame a bunch of times. very last moment bail. it looked like he had it but maybe he was pitched too far forward
@@alistairclark6814 if you got a talent you should share it with the world what is good for skateboarding is good for the skateboarder we could be the biggest coolest thing on the planet but if we keep it to our selves well... the Olympics is just a jump point to bigger things and lets face it vert needs the exposure
this was awesome! it's great to see vert staying alive and still progressing. it is crazy that so many wild tricks are landed in a run. the women's jam was crazy too, there's definately an up and coming community of rippers taking it to new levels there as well. only wish there was less color commentary going on, there's just not much room for that during this jam format with constant bangers going on. wish i could of heard jason calling out the tricks in real time with tony and then some of the color commentary from the other guy sprinkled in, but hey that's just my subjective preference. i sitll enjoyed watching the contest!
15min into this contest and my mind has IMPLODED! I N S A N E People who have not been a skateboarder, don't really understand how difficult these tricks are. Lets not call it tricks.. More a Performance Art, like an Olympic sport. ( KEEP VERT PROGRESSING ! ) WHY IS THIS NOT OLYMPIC STANDARDS!!! hmmmm make me think.. Street/Park = happiness finally apricated in the Olympics. Please bring VERT.
How the hell does Gui go so friggin big!!! He's like half the size and weight of the other guys and still goes just as big or bigger. But because he's so small he can spin more and can do 900's that barely clear the coping lol. The kids a freak!!.
And they think people like me havent watched vert since the 90s all these tricks were invented then. Its just dependjng who does them and when and how and if they are in a combo set. Damestoy shiabata and gomes are the most tech skaters right now
It's insane how much skating has progressed! Vert deserves more love ❤
flip tricks on vert nothing new
Vert nowadays is nowhere near as popular as it used to be, at all the parks I go to the bowls and pools are hardly used
Its coming back! Hope it gets as big as it once was.
You know when Tony Hawk is laughing at hard the tricks are and these guys are just killing it.
The kid doing a 900 OUT OF A LIPSLIDE?!?!?!
Insane.
@Ride Channel Thanks for the pin !🙏
This by far is some of the best vert skating I have seen in a while.
Never heard about Moto Shibata before! Damn, this guy is in another time zone!
Moto absolutely kills it, doing tricks that no one else is touching and blasting them. He should have won.
He's a badass!!!
Moto is my current favorite vert skater. Cool tricks, big air, and inimitable style.
kickflip mctwist!!! he is amazing to watch
He’s from Japan, they live in the tomorrow-verse.
Absolute heat! Thanks, Tony!

You might have been watching a best trick contest not a run contest

Wow, I am ENJOYING this sport!
I did not know this was considered a qualifier for the x-games! That's super dope my guy. Thank you Tony for everything you've done and continue to do for the skateboarding community. We all love you brother
That kid Gui looks great, absolutely fearless
He’s the future for vert

Miss the days of Mathias ringstorm, Bob burnquist, Bucky lasek, and Colin mckay doing tech verrt skating but these new dudes are carrying the torch.
Mike Crum, Lincoln Ueda, Mike Frazier, Tas Pappas, Rune Glifberg

unreal sick ripping shredding vert skating 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
you guys are awesome!
Moto with the BIG Hosoi vibe...
Vert is not dead!!!
This was amazing. I hope vert sees a huge revival. It's incredible to watch.
Moto and Gui just solid!
35:37 This trick was absolutely nuts. The way he caught it and landed so clean too. Insane.
Tony and Ellis are such a cool sombination. Tony is cool and always on point and Ellis is Hyped and always on Go.
The speed and grace is incredible!
Dude, even compared to a couple years ago vert skating is on a whole other level.
I am a skater and know skateboarding for years now but I was todays years old I saw a 360 flip compined with a grab trick in a vert the first time. Incredible.
dig the lineup/ equal time format for vert. this is fantastic insanity. SO MANY great skaters
Vert is the best, tricks are getting really insane, constantly progressing.
Keep going Tony just don’t forget falling is a part of skating for everyone🌞
Gui is amazing. 🌪
Sick contest!!!
Supernatural athletes 😊
Really hard to judge , they all so great !!!
Cool. But WTF? Why did Moto not win? Ed D. does so many set up airs, his runs are on the edge but the difficulty is not even close, nor the style...
Yeah, I love Eddy but Moto won this.
Street is even worse with judging
Thank you for everything ALL skateboarders. Thank you T.A. ... I never thought it would turn into PRO WRESTLING! how much money do you think you need? You're ALL SET FOR LIFE
Upload the 2023 ladies vert alert please! Much appreciated
Vert is a Vibe
Non stop crazieness. So good
#3 Gui Khury #2 Jimmy Wilkens #1 Moto Shibata
Legend!
I remember in the late 80’s and early 90’s….kids were building half pipes in the back years. Those were good years.
I was a vert button guy most of my life, but it has gotten really wild.
Magnifique Edi 🤙👍
I want to see a 540 Rocket air.
Seder crest was a monster ramp that was scary to even be there. Tony mags Pic in thrasher was huge have that issue still. Late.
So rad
"That kid is back on the escalator!" - Jason Lee (Mallrats). I still love his Video Days part.
“i hope his pants get caught and a blood bath ensues!”
i love that line hahahah
see you at vertattack boys :)
see you there!
Tom Schaar one of my favorite skaters
Tonyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!
big ups to Jason for calling every trick
Asian really killing it in recent years in extreme sports, they got the lead.
34:22 that is the most beautiful bail. I watched it frame by frame a bunch of times. very last moment bail. it looked like he had it but maybe he was pitched too far forward
49:00 sweet jeebus
That body varial 9 looked so cool. Holy shit
That Kid is Back on the friggin escalator!!!
Goated mallrats reference
Jimmy Wilkens has that Mike Crum style!
Awesome skateboarding....Come skate Fireman's Skatepark in Houma,La.
I think Moto should have won.
No freaking way Damestoy win this.. Shibata all the way!!!
Feels like it's 1999 back again !!!
My screaming while watching Jimmy skate woke up my girlfriend in the middle of the night so thanks a lot XDDDD
O vertical deveria ser incluso nas Olimpíadas também .
Moto 🔥
Street will always be number 1, but this is cool too
i wonder if vert will be in the next Olympics
I hope not. The Olympics shouldn't benefit from skateboarding in any way shape or form. Keep skateboarding for skateboarding.
@@alistairclark6814 if you got a talent you should share it with the world what is good for skateboarding is good for the skateboarder we could be the biggest coolest thing on the planet but if we keep it to our selves well... the Olympics is just a jump point to bigger things and lets face it vert needs the exposure
I think when it comes to extreme sports tricks are. The the sky is the limit. I think there's infinite tricks just like there's infinite space.😊
I wish there was a jason ellis version for youtube. Hes a great crowd guy
Not as epic as the legends runs but this new generation is going places for sure!
Absolute shred7
I'm going to this in 2024.

Waw... Raiders of the Lost Art..
Great to see Jason Ellis representing the skippys

Jason Ellis is the perfect announcer for this event.😊
I really like Cote on here.
Só os top 😂
I feel like this was Moto's year....
And they think people like me havent watched vert since the 90s all these tricks were invented then. Its just dependjng who does them and when and how and if they are in a combo set. Damestoy shiabata and gomes are the most tech skaters right now
Front side grind to back side air grab in front of the foot hard to choose the best trick
Moto was the winner in my book
Cracks me up!! His over 50's, still broken body, 540's are better than i'll ever do 🤣
Cool
Imagine doing a Howard heel to fake on vert.
Tony hawk reminds me of Mark zookerborg.
Allez Bordeaux !
🎉おめでとう御座います🥳
I can remember the first time a different time a few stunts and a t hawk signutre ok thanks
Ed was good but I'd have given it to Jimmy or Moto! unreal chops guys
Moto shibata shoulda won
30:29 Delfino no pads, no helmet, no shirt vs chinese Chris Russel
