- The purpose of replacement of these Pulleys was due to being wore out and eating up belts prematurely. When replacing pulleys you must replace belts to allow proper wear to begin. Alignment and tension make a huge difference on belt wear and equipment performance.

Yea that's all well and good but you forgot the most important part, lining them up. I use a straight edge, sometimes two straight edges if they are far apart. Also, the wedge pulley tend to move slightly as you tighten them causing the pulley to be ever so slightly out of strict alignment so a bit of guessing is involved. Also, always remember to check amp draw after its all said and done!
You can check them quickly using a straight edge, sometimes using a string there are times we utilize lasers.
The bushings that the pulley slides on they can typically move around 1/8 of an inch so always double check your work. I was just giving a quick demo.
Amps are never to be forgotten about.

@@JP-sd2cw : I thought about showing a few different ways. Let me see what I can do. I will be changing out a big blower assembly along with pulleys when it comes in. Possibly a few weeks due to Covid waiting delays.

@@lugongguo8125 hello…. The rotation this blower assembly is turning is Counter Clockwise if your looking at it from the pulley side.
The pulley turns the same as the blower “Counterclockwise”. The pulley slides onto that shaft first then the center Hub is installed second.
The center hub locks it into place.

Belt tension can be critical on some equipment but generally it’s simple. Belt type makes a difference on tension. Never make them tight like a Banjo string since that will cause bearing wear. Being too loose they will slip, wearing out the belt / pulleys quicker.
Bearings go bad not always from belt tension being too tight, but sometimes over greasing a bearing or under greasing. Also, if that blower wheel suddenly gets out of balance, that will also cause premature bearing failure not to mention Vibrations.
Working on different HVAC equipment is challenging at times but it’s all relatively doing the same thing. Heating or cooling a space. No matter where you go in the world, we will always have heating, calling, refrigeration, and ventilation work.

How did you lock / tag this out? What components did you lock out? How did you ensure that there would be no windmilling that might catch your finger in the belts and pulleys? Thanks.
Hello Cassady. Sometimes when I shoot my videos I forget to include little details such as this. I use a OSHA require lockout tag out with Key kit. The disconnect is located outside of the unit mounted onto an I-beam. But yes you must always be cautious working around moving components or high-voltage. I was just on a job site the other day troubleshooting and the customer walked over and said “wow LOTO !!! I have an electrician doing an upgrade and all he did was shut down the breaker, never taped or labeled it whatsoever”. I said technically he should be locking out that breaker or if not the entire panel door but I try to do things by the book. Typically after when I turn off power and lock it out I will push and contactors to verify we have no power feeding from any which direction to that piece of equipment. @@CassadySC1 This was actually a return fan so if the supply fan is running a lot of times the return fan will be pulling through as well but we had a whole system down at that time. There are times where you must shove a board or something in the fan to eliminate it from rotating because of the other fan in the building or a draft coming through. Have a great day

How do you check amperage??
Use an Amp Clamp on the wires “individually” of the motor or device your checking.
@@hvacexplained9341 Ok, thanks. Sorry, I’m completely new to this stuff. My boss wanted to do a project in house, rather than contract it out. Had to replace a six wire 15 HP/200Volt motor, that was about 150lbs (old one was 200lbs). And the motor was above a ceiling grid, about 15feet to the cabinet entry. It went okay for the most part, we used a one man lift and some ingenuity. But I wanted to verify everything else the best I can.
So, I have the motor leads connected to the power Leeds, running on Delta. L1 is connected to T1 and T6. L2 is connected to T2 and T4. Last, L3 is connected to T3 and T5. So, would I put the clamp meter around L1, T1, T6 or do I do each wire in the group individually? Thanks.
