I have a collection of Victor Talking Machines, all restored to their like new original condition, as furniture restoration is one of my loves. I also, in the collection, have six Magnavox radio/phono combinations, as well as four of their stereo consoles. The complete Mag. collection spans the years 1942-1961. All look and play as they did when new. Victor actually produced special painted cabinets in their art models. Beautiful work.
What an amazing collection! I love that you've been able to restore to their original condition! Now I'm off to go check out this special painted cabinets!! =) Thanks for sharing!
@@secondchanceohanaNot only that...I'm doing the "Green Thing" when I play records on the Victrolas...no waste of electricity and get some exercise, while turning the crank, winding them!
Usually, I get sad when I see things like this get repurposed (as I am a person who restores them.) But this is definitely an exception to that! Seeing that the majority of the internals were gone, This was a perfect way to get use out of an otherwise useless cabinet!
Thank you so much! We love history and try to preserve and restore what we can but when we can't restore it to original, we figure the next best thing is to give it a new purpose so that it will be loved and used again.
Great find and restoration you two ♥this project. Used a vintage radio in my shop . . . pulled the radio workings out, used the shelf for my cash station, lower level housed my wrappings, boxes, etc. Painted white to match other vintage furniture used to show products . . . real shabby chic . . . customers loves it. Can always use as home accessory piece.
Nice job ladies! I have the same piece that has been sitting in my basement for over a year. Now I can repurpose this piece. I did not know how to take the bottom piece out until I watched your video. Thanks so much and keep up the good work.😊
We have a Victrola also, and I needed an idea to repurpose it! We also have a new vinyl record player that sounds sooo great when you play music of the past. It just feels like the past when it’s something from your childhood. Love the job you did!
I have a few records players, one just like the one your working on. I have some that were made in the 50's 60's 80's, 2020. 5k albums. Im in a transition from leaving my business and restoring antiques and vintage items for living, might be part time, i still enjoy painting houses. I work alone so i get to really take my time on home and view it more as art work. I just restored a beautiful mcm karoff mini bar. Absolutely gorgeous walnut wood. And a strommen burke vintage seing box. Hey i think in 1996 Mike Tyson fought Evander Holyfield, he bit his ear! I remember watching it at a friends house near a steet called washington. Its funny how certain memories stick with ya. Well keep up the good work, they call me 501, or something like that.
Thanks so much, Jim and Cindy! Haha... that imagination is good because it makes us try new things but yikes, it sure slows us down sometimes as we try to figure out how to actually do what we want to do...😬😀
Wow my AZ furniture ladies .....what a beautiful piece....And I Too Have caught the "Miss flips" Art deco Bug as she Inspired me for the West Elm Trolly bar with the retro Vibe design on bottom shelf ..She's AWESOME! And So Are the Both Of you...Such a Beautiful conversation bar for sure ..just love it 🥰👍❣️
Yes!!! We love your trolley bar cart, Debra! And Miss Flips! WE are very fortunate to have so many fellow furniture flippers/artists that we call friends. Everywhere we turn we find fresh inspiration and new ways to do things. Thank you my friend for always being so encouraging!😘
Ladies you hit this project out of the ballpark. Superior design executed in a fashion that James Bond would be proud to showcase in his home. Love that you highlighted Phoenix on the only day we got rain this month. I look forward to your next projet! Margi in Peoria.
Thank you, Margi!! Haha,,,, when we lived in Seattle we hated the rain; in Phoenix when it rains, it's beautiful and refreshing. Pops was all over that little storm. 😮😀
So glad your banter is back!! I love this piece, my husband has a record player and I am redoing a piece for him for his record storage. I want to do it in an art decor theme…can you tell me where you found your crocus designs?
Hey Alicia! I love that you’re doing an Art Deco theme too!! There are tons of Art Deco stencils (and svg files on Etsy if you want to make your own with a cricut). I saw ideas of what I liked online and made my own file, but there are lots of them out there. Good luck!!
😍🥂That came out great! I think that you made great choices with color and Stencil placement. If the pattern was on thefront I think it would have been too busy! To make your mirror or glassware gleam, wipe firm with 70% rubbing alcohol. 🍸✨
Hi Carolyne, thanks so much! Glad you like it. We agree. The gold stenciling is a strong statement and we wanted it to enhance the beauty of the piece but not overwhelm it. Thanks for the tip about the rubbing alcohol. we just finished the topcoats yesterday and are going to do the staging pictures today so will try that.🍹🤗
Wow ladies! I love this the colors and the gold is amazing! Now if you could just make it that if you cranked the handle a drink would come out and be all made 😁😂😂
Uhm...mom.....I don't like spiders either!! Lol This piece was a great find! I never would have thought of a bar, or adding those stencils. It all came together great! Still love listening to the 2 of you. 🙂🙂
😂😮 Haha ... thank you, Vickie! Yes, we've kind of gotten into this thing where just about everything we find that needs a new purpose gets turned into a bar. They sell pretty fast at a good price. 🤗
@@secondchanceohana your mom has a great eye!! so glad she saw it! its soooo rewarding when us flippers \ upcyclers can make something useful again and give it a new purpose in life!!
I'm sad t say that this is a painful sight to those of us (and there are hundreds in the US alone) who collect and restore these old phonographs. It's hard seeing these old machines repurposed, especially when it is a machine like the Victrola X or XI for which motors and parts are plentiful. But if you are not aware of that fact, then it would seem that you are giving it new life.
I agree, but the reality is there are many thousands of these still around- complete- and in better shape for a collector to purchase. It likely would not be worth the trouble of finding parts to make this a common workable Victrola, plus factoring in the professional restoration of the damaged cabinet added to the total cost. I just hope videos like this don't encourage the gutting of a piece that is intact and valuable to be made into a trendy DIY project.
Aloha, Ohana! this piece was so fun to work on and it brought back so many memories (for Mom) of just sitting or dancing for hours in front of the old "Hi-fi"s . We all had record players back in the day. Tell us if you still have one!🤗😵😍
Wow ladies! This was a terrific makeover. So gratifying to see you appreciate the old pieces and give them a new lease on life. Whoever gets this one will most certainly enjoy it. You are so clever and creative. Fun video to watch. Thanks!
What a totally lovely flip, ladies! Such a cohesive design across the whole cabinet and super elegant. Yes, love Marissa's work and you captured the vibe perfectly. Someone is going to be very lucky to pick up this one of a kind piece! 😍
Wow, thank you, Ruthie! We did spend a lot of time brainstorming about different options, designs, etc. and some of our ideas we had to adjust along the way because we couldn't find the products we were searching for. But in the end, we love how it turned out and it was really fun.😍
Thanks Kay!!! We actually need to finish the poly on this piece so haven't listed it yet. We hope it sells fast but we love it so much, we are going to price it high and see if we get any bites. We will add a note in the description when we sell it. 🌹😘
Oh my goodness, the work you two put into this historical piece is beautiful. It turned out so good, that I had to show it to my husband. He was so surprised how you repurposed it. I can't wait to hear the story of who bought it.
Thanks, Anna! Remember when we bought this at the Furniture Farmer's Market? We priced it pretty high so it may take a while to sell.... but hope it sells soon!

This historic piece did have a purpose. Parts are easily found online and she could have been singing again. Another one down.
Thanks for your input. If the new owner desires to do so, it can still be made into a a working victrola.
The cabinet was pretty beat up, it would cost about $200 to do all that. Not really worth it unfortunately.
