I was a sound engineer in the late 90’s. Was doing a festival one weekend with Lots of rock and roll acts and Alvin was on the line up. During the soundcheck, he realised he’d forgotten his acoustic guitar. It just so happened I’d brought mine to play back in the accommodation and offered it to him. He did and he was very grateful. I even asked him to sign it, so I am the proud owner of a Takamine acoustic guitar with the words “thanks Tim” signed by the man and he used it for his show. Bit random, but I thought I might as well! He was a very nice chap. Very friendly. RIP Sir.
Everyone said that about Bernard. Had an ability to sing in the sound of so many people really. Its probable that the first two Alvin Stardust Records were actually recorded by Pete Shelley under the Alvin Stardust Name, but Bernard Jewry was hired for the live performances as Pete did not want to tour or appear on shows, certainly from the third disc it was all Bernard, and he created the Alvin Stardust Image - to put such as distance from his days as Shane Fentone (whom he had taken over the role of when the original Shane Fentone had died).
Legend... Shane Fenton .Alvin stardust. He had a guard of honour at his funeral . His coffin was escorted by The Harley Davison Members Club ..Hells Angles and Bikers..
I was a DJ in the 70s and when I put this vinyl on the turntable the floor was packed, that’s how you new how popular a singer was. R.I.p Alvin thanks for the music.
My band had the great privilege to open a gig in Largs, Ayrshire for Alvin some years ago.. He was the most organised and professional Musician and Singer I've witnessed. Also a warm and kind hearted guy. Every recollection I have of that gig is great. Above all his performance - and that of his band - was just terrific. Sadly missed.
In the 70s we loved the entertainers like Alvin Stardust, but also appreciated great musicians like The Carpenters. 70s music was one happy biological eco-system.
In the 70s I was leaving a very late night kebab shop in Crouch End , London. Who was outside on the kerb changing a tyre on his car in stage gear? Alvin Stardust! A very down to earth geezer who had just done a gig.
Andy 1974 .Alvin's drummers mom lived opposite us...off tour he would park his car on the path outside..big American car...all the kids hanging around..sound bloke talking to the kids No worries about us climbing all over the car.
Wonderful. My youth. Top of the Pops. Late '73 (yes, we know its Shane Fenton & Peter Shelley was the writer for Alvin & original vocals on the first single). Whatever... absolutely fabulous!
Happy memories from my teenage years, I loved glam rock, still do, and Alvin was one of my favourite singers in the 70's. Sleep peacefully Alvin, your music and songs will live on.
My Coo Ca Choo- Alvin Stardust This was a massive N0.1 Hit in 1974 in Australia. It oozes cool smoothness in this love song that describes the things he loves about a girl. The opening guitar riff is one of the best ever and is still one of my best memories of childhood with my ear glued to Sydney's 2SM. 1270 AM. The record Producer and Engineer should be highly commended for this tune. The sale of black gloves increased a million % in 1974. LOL!!!
I met him a long time ago he came into the shop I worked in to send flowers to one of his backup singers as she had tonsillitis and couldn't perform on his concert I was a huge fan away have been couldn't believe my eyes even gave me a hug and his autograph 😍😍😍😍
I was 11, growing up in East London, when this came out. Had an impact as an 'ear-worm', on me. Thought Alvin's style - cool. Revisiting this song now, at 59, and after seeing the movie 'Elivis', I can see what an impact Elvis had on so many people. I hear more than a little of the king in Coo Ca Choo, but as a kid I remember Coo Ga -Joo.
Alvin Stardust has now joined MUDs Les Gray, T-Rex Marc Bolan, The Sweet's Brian Connolly & Mick Tucker, The Glitter Band's Gerry Shepherd and many more in Glam Rock Heaven. Without these great singers, brilliant showmen and entertainer the world will be a much duller place. R.I.P. I love the musik from the 70´s!
The best era we had something for all, and we loved it . I would give it all to go back. The US invented Rock & Roll , but the British knew what to do with it !
Great performer, a real pro. And a nice fella too. He could really sing. A true 70s superstar and he never forgot what Pete Shelley and Target did for him. God bless
This record is one of the coolest records ever recorded and what a era the 70s was shame today generation dont appreciate great music than the crap that's recorded these days
The more I look at Alvin especially in this video I feel like I'm looking at a mixture of Elvis and Jack Lord from Hawaii Five-0!!! Anyone else see the likeness? Great video and song! Alvin Stardust R.I.P .
itgetseasierlessitry You're not the first person to say that, Chris Steele-Perkins and Richard Smith mentioned it in their book The Teds way back in 1979.
One of those influential moments in the life of a child - seeing this man dressed in black, gloved hands challenging the camera. I was no stranger to Top of the Pops, but this song and performance along with Chicory Tip's Son of the Father are the two songs that rank highest in fondest memories.
Absolutely, I was in primary school when this was released and if there was a juke box around, all my pocket money was spent on playing this over and over and over again.
Was a big fan in the 70's. Was very lucky to have won a competition in his 3rd album Rock with Alvin. A week's holiday in Majorca. Met him in person at the Piccadilly hotel in Manchester where he presented me with my prize. Lovely genuine guy.
When you look at the world today .And you can look back to this and similar songs in our memories. Its quite sad for me knowing 1.they will never come back but at the same time happy that i shared great songs with other people .

One of my favourite songs. R.I.P Alvin Stardust you sadly lost your battle today. It's a battle we all wished would be won. We know you will be up there now singing with the greats. You will be sadly missed. Xx
Alvin's mum used to be my child minder when I was around 2-4 and we ended up very close to his family. I used to help out in that cafe and her house was literally in the next road. I was friends with his kids and he used to take us out but I'd always get in trouble for telling everyone who he was when he tried to disguise himself a bit. Genuinely lovely man.

Legendary song sung by a genuine legend!
Peter Shelley, yes. Bernard Jewry (the man you see in the video) just lip synced it. He sang the later songs, though.
@@WedgePee He sang it properly in live appearances though.
