  • Russian police have detained dozens of supporters of the opposition leader Alexei Navalny who died suddenly in a remote penal camp. Navalny's close allies have confirmed his death, but say the authorities are refusing to release his body. With many questions still not resolved, many world leaders, campaigners and Navalny's family are all pointing the finger at Russia's president Vladimir Putin.

Navalny was so defiant, spirited, and brave, that the loss of such a legend doesn't really hit me until now when I see him smiling behind the glass and in those penal colony videos, especially his last one. The Russian opposition movement suffers from in-fighting, and now a new figurehead will have to be chosen to fill some pretty big shoes. Navalny was not the ideal opposition leader for everybody, but he had some traits that will be hard to replace, especially enduring as much as he did. If there is someone out there who can rise up to the challenge, surely "Дед Мороз" left his best present for last: inspiration.

None of my business but this brings back memories of our own history. Dr. Jose Rizal's firing squad in 1892 and Ninoy Aquino assassination in front of millions of people watching the television while getting out of the plane upon returning to the country from being an exile. Both Mothers mourned the assassination of their sons but that didn't end it from there. My own kid was the first group to be sent to the borders during the start of your war. We have no business to be there but for the sake of Peace and alliance there he was. I was grieving the very first day the war begun in Ukraine and I didn't even lose my kid.
