    Great job. Very well done. I wish more instructional videos were made this well. Thanks.

    Very useful vid! Sure it’s a couple of years old, but completely relevant for a lot of people for years to come. This is also the same part for my Craftsman opener. Super easy fix for a part which is honestly designed to fail. It took 20 years, so here’s to another 20 I guess!

    If the carriage is not damaged, all you need to replace is the wear pads inside of the carriage. They are about $6 for a kit at Chamberlain.com

    Very use ful video. Nowever, my quesiton is why the idle pully deeps breaking. Is there is an adjustment need to made somewhere along with the chain. your response would be much appreciative.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  8 месяцев назад

      The end of the track there’s a tab that you need to pull up which prevents the carriage from running into it. Also you don’t want to overtighten the chain

    Thank you so much I just replaced this easily. My only question is should I apply any grease around the trolley carrier? It sounds and runs so much better. Great video.

      You can if you want to but it’s got the plastic runners inside the carriage that help as well (:

    Thank you for your video. I just replaced the trolly/carriage assembly and I'm certain it went back together properly. However, when I garage door opens it only opens halfway. When I try to close it, it reaches the bottom and reopens and stops halfway. I have tried turning the force adjustment screw but doesn't do anything. Any ideas how to remedy? Greatly appreciated.

      Must’ve been put in the wrong place, take the chain off, press the button and step in front of the sensors. By doing this the motor will reverse and go to the fully open position. At this point you bring the trolley to about the fully open position and re attach the chain.
      From there you would just need to make minor adjustments with the limits. I know it’s a bit. More involved but this should fix your issue

  • @stevenwankam747

    Great video! For the tab that you hammered down flat, should you pry it back up? Assume it's just a safety tab to prevent the carriage/trolley from hitting the wheel? This vid was useful for me as the top wear pad closest to the opener side on my GDO is worn completely away (very heavy large door) so it's opening very slowly now due to metal on metal. The other 3 wear pads look fine so will have to follow your video to replace that one wear pad...assuming I can find them somewhere (I'm in Canada).

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  2 года назад

      Yes as it’s a stopper to prevent the trolley from slamming into the plastic idler pulley 👍🏻

    Great vid thanks! How do you evaluate the tension that should be on the chain. I have a very heavy door.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  3 года назад +1

      You want it to be tight enough that it doesn’t have a big sag in it ( small sag is ok ) if I had to equate it to something I’d say a slightly loose bicycle chain.

    I have Chamberlain whisper drive door opener. The carriage Assembly is stuck the other end away from door and it is not moving. Now I have to manually close the door. Is this a same process that you just did to release the carriage? Your reply will be appreciated. thanks

    Love the video. I'm not sure this is my issue though. I disconnected the door and cycled the opener and it works fine. With the weight of the single wooden door, the trolley gets out to about 2/3 (the last joint in the rail) closed and it looks like it's hitting something and trying to derail. The carriage bolts are in perfect condition and tight in the rail and nothing else has changed. I can't see anything with an impact mark on it. It just started with a small noise and now it's a big noise. Does this sound like the reason the trolley/carriage has to be replaced?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  9 месяцев назад

      There’s a portion of the opening on those wood doors that does more damage than the rest of the ride because of the way it opens. It could definitely cause the trolley to strip out and need to be replaced

      @@GarageDoorGuidance So, the part arrived and I spent about an hour on the job. All done and it works just like before. Since I had the ladder and tools out, I watched the whole thing from every angle with a flashlight on every moving part. It turns out that the bolt holding the pulley (axle?) on the tension spring cable was loose which allowed the pulley to ride up the framework then pop out. Ten seconds with two wrenches and the problem was solved. Let's just call this a $40 lesson in observation and inspection. LOL! The video still helped. I approached the job with confidence and the only painful part was the blow to my ego. Thanks again!

    Is the carriage assembly replacement the same process on the belt driven opener? The clip on the side of the carriage assembly where you thread the bolt thru which is attached to the belt snapped off the carriage. Can you confirm the carriage replacement part is sold as one unit with the trolley assembly? I have an 10 year old opener - Chamberlain Whisper Drive Model WD962KD. Thanks

    • @GarageDoorGuidance

      It is sold as one unit and yes it would be the same with minor differences in the trolley

    • @GarageDoorGuidance

      What do you mean by tolerances ? How much space between them ? Or how heavy a load they’re equipped to handle ?

      @@GarageDoorGuidance I am trying to figure out when the door glides are worn out. should there be no space between the glide and the rail? should there be .0006 inch space? what would be considered worn out and time to replace? when replacing the worm and gear shaft I found one of the glides missing so I replaced it. the other 3 looked worn but serviceable so didn't replace them. unit is of course quieter now with the single new glide.
