  • We probably shouldn't have chosen Easter Weekend to visit Rivington. The village was packed tighter than a tin of overweight sardines attempting a world record to see how many of their gluttonous family they could squeeze into a very small tin with all the air sucked out of it.
Oddly enough the church was quiet and locked. You'd have thought it'd be open for Easter Weekend. Perhaps the church authorities have a problem with rabbits leaving Easter eggs behind on the pews...or some other unwanted presents.
Whatever the case, Rivington was very pleasant even if it was heaving, but it might be an idea if you're planning a visit yourself to go when the World Cup's on the telly or something and everybody's tucked up at home.
