I love how the outside Doorhandles and Doors have not changed from the original G-Klasse at all. And then you open it and go from 1970 to 2024 instantly.
True... Somehow the interior does not fit this car... A shame they just threw in their standard plastic xmas lighting interior. .

Land Rover should have done this with the Defender, but they wanted to build money spinning crap instead of building on their heritage… this is a beautiful combination of modern tech with a long heritage of the G-Wagon..
Thisss is an awesome car - Mercedes knocked it out of the park here. Way better car and tech compared to the fossile version.

It is good that they brought the G to the EV club with all the insane capabilities. The funny thing is, that most of the people buying it will probable never use any of the cool feature, but cruise in the city and bring their kids to kindergarten.
The wading depth is actually 85cm, its more than the Cybertruck at 31 inches (~79 cm). Also it doesn't need any special mode...the G-class wading depth is 85 cm at all times, unlike the Cybertruck where you have to activate a wave-mode, which takes between 15-30 minutes to pressurize the battery pack and get the advertised wading depth. Mercedes did some seriously impressive engineering here, when it comes to offloading its a level above anything electric on the market, including the Rivian and Cybertruck,

Looking at the state of the tyres, someone had a good time.
The exteriour changes mostly affect all the new type 465 G class models (e.g. the extra lamella, the changed A pillars and the little spoiler on the roof).
What is exclusive to the G580 is the changed hood (slightly higher towards the windscreen) and the air curtains in the rear fenders.
Wading depth is 850mm by the way.
10:18: The sidestep/footboard is an option, but the car you had there seems to have been more "off-road-spec" (also with the full spare wheel), where not having the sidestep is better.
16:10 low range is only available in drive program "Rock" and is also the precondition for G-Turn and G-Steering
17:30 While they are kinda thirsty the WLTP consumption of the G500 (or even the G63) is a lot less than 20l/100km
I hope you can take this thing offroad, as this is where it really shines 😊
And they will spend most of their life crawling around Knightsbridge in London and I bet not a single one will ever be taken anywhere near its off-road capability
Man I would definitely consider the Gelandenwagan EQ for off-road. I don’t like the fossil version for some reason 🤔. I think your 1000km challenge will be off-road.

Living on a Thai island, I wonder how much better that will fare on the jungle steep water washed dirt "roads" here as compared to the locally popular monstrous pick-up 4x4s. Also, how it will survive the ocean salted constant hot humidity. Hmmm...
Impressive car, i very much like it.
In terms of range. It has roughly the same range as the ICE G63 AMG with a thirsty V8 Bi-Turbo. As they both have approximately the same power, they compared them to each other. However, there are more civil versions of the G-class with a smaller 6-cylinder Diesel that is much more efficient and has far more range.

When you travel with 5 ful grown man + luggage the Electric G Wagon, its over 3500kg. You need to have a truck driver's license to be legal in Europe 😂

If I had 10 million to spare on this car
I think its still 1-2 generations too soon for an electric G-class to make sense as a replacement for the ICE version. Its just too heavy, defeating parts of its purpose it was originally built for.
Thats a pricey vehicule. But nice!
I liked the prototype EQG better. They messed that up, but I understand they wanted to keep it the same to keep costs as low as possible, but also a matter of G Wagon's Philosophy.
But which part did you like better? The only thing different is basically the lights on the side. You can get the illuminated black panel grill also on the G580
@@davidglieder8862 It's the futuristic grill they originally put. But I think the problem is that the yellow color, it makes the vehicle ancient-looking. Good to know.
@@AaronStarkLinux Yeah the version that Björn had here is basically the same”offroad spec“ with low equipment in interior and exterior styling. The much higher equipped luxury specs look quite different

@@binflydushy I put them in the same basket. With the materials of a 250kWh battery you could build 5 small EVs and accelerate the transition to EVs for the masses, not for an elite.

@@davidglieder8862 People don't buy EVs because they're too expensive for a lot of people.
Making enormous, unefficient cars leads to larger batteries to have a decent range, so more cost.
We need smaller, more aerodynamic cars with great efficiencies and reasonable batteries (50-60kWh) that can charge fast.
I think the Citroen eC3 is a good synthesis of this, not perfect but what more manufacturers should do, lightweight, 100kW charging, 44kWh LFP battery and sub 20k€.
The Dolphin is not bad too but lacks efficiency and it is too expensive.
The G-Wagen will be bought by a very few, like ICE supercars, it will change nothing to a country CO2 emissions because they are anecdotic, but millions of cars for the masses will. That's my point of view.
Actually the G Klasse is developed and built in Austria so no German panzer but an Austrian one 😊

If this was a chinese car evrybody would make fun of it. MB is lucky they have a strong brand and can put someting this on the market with a price tag 1,8 million NOK.
No tow-bar, no roof-rack 🤔I get the car is heavy but just say you need to upgrade your license if you want to tow something and have something on your roof, if not then its not a serious off-roader just something to show off how rich you are. I seriously considered the G-Wagon back in the day when it came out, but I was not impressed with the technology being used and its off-road performance was sub-par.
Oh, I passed the car not long ago in Vestfold and I quickly understood it was not a fossil car but a EV version of the G-Wagon. Looking forward to your review when it comes out🚙
Its off-road performance is by far the best on the market between all EVs. Not sure how you could call it sub-par?
@@AOTanoos22My assessment of the G-Wagon was based on my test drive when it first came out in its internal combustion version many years ago and in comparison with other off-roaders at the time when also comparing the price and what you were getting.
Since today's EV G-Wagon is new we will have to wait and see what reviewers have to say about its performance and value for money.
