I kinda prefer the bootleg opening more. The blurry view of the camera falling over and then a quick shot of Ed dragging a body before it cuts away seems more raw and real. It gives you a more unsettling idea of what's to come

Har faktiskt en regionsfri som jag köpte från ett svenskt företag för en massa år sedan. Sen är den väl inte regionsfri egentligen då man måste ställa om mellan två lägen snarare än att den kan spela allt direkt - är Nån sorts underlig mod.
Är bättre än inget skulle jag vilja säga leta själv efter en regionsfri blu-ray spelare men det är inte det lättaste att hitta officiella regionsfria. Vilken är synd då USA får så många fler blu-ray realeser än vad vi i europa får. :/
So I saw the bootleg version of the film a long time ago and remember thinking it was one of the most wonky and craziest movies I'd seen in a long time and I loved it. Now fast forward to the bluray release, I still have some questions about which cut of the film is the better option. My main question for you is does the official version of the film cut out/tone down any of the graphic violence for maybe securing an r rating? Considering this film is so intensely violent in nature, it would make sense to me that at least a few scenes would've maybe been trimmed down a bit. Also does it add scenes that were not in the bootleg version of the film? I saw the runtime is about 2 minutes longer on the bluray version of the film rather than cutting it shorter. Been pondering this for years but haven't really wanted to look into it myself because the film is so depressing and hard to watch at times.
Great questions, Nicolas! As far as I can remember there are very few edits that seem to have been done to tone down the violence - I would rather say thats its a question of fine turning the film as a whole. There are some new scenes and also some minor scenes removed but the blu-ray its definately superior in my mind. *SPOILER ALERT* To give some examples: in the beginning of the film there was an distorted opening shot where the killer is seen dragging a body out of frame. This clip is actually gone but in its place is a sequence where the killer ties a rope to the end of his truck and proceeds to pull a body out of an open grave at the cemetery. The blu-ray also adds opening shots with home movies of the main victim, a lengthy interview with an FBI agent as they drive to a funeral etc etc. The only time I can remember there being an adjustment to the violence is a very short cut to a scene where the killer forces one of the captives to cut another captives throat. I always found this scene to long to begin with so I didnt mind. Its still brutal as hell and includes gore. They just removed a second or two as I remember. Plus, at the very end after the credits theres a hidden scene - in this clip the killer tells a girl that she can live as long as she doesnt blink. He then proceeds to do something off camera and we only see her face. In the bootleg version the clip ended just as she blinks but on the blu-ray it cuts out the moment before so we never see her blink. These are just some examples but all in all there are no memorable cuts that make it less graphic - I would say its the contrary (if anything) as the quality of the picture now alows us to see some details in more light (the killer holding a hammer during the car crash scene for example).

Yeah, I can agree with that. I think the new opening provides a lot more context but I dont think it has to be presented as the first scene.
