I think if you manage to find the telescope in the next part you're good to go. I'd reroll skill at the beginning though, going with less than 10 will almost all the time lead to death because the enemies are extremely skilled.
Well, you are about 70% of the way to finding the true path. Watch back and make a note of items that are mentioned and what you have. A Telescope is one and is found with some other useful items at the same time. The Mermaid bracelet you can get from Abjul along with 2 other useful items, one of which you already chose. DO make proper notes. It will be invaluable to NOT do the same thing again when you come back to play days or weeks later. Hint. You do not need the death dog, and you are so right when you realised it gave you multiple options to turn back. Lesson learned, I hope. This is a good book, but the sand worm is always a b******d, but you have to fight it because you need that tooth too. So some work needed before the temple and some work needed once IN the temple. The temple is intentionally confusing and so mapping really helps, else you can end up going back on yourself. Noting page numbers helps too, and you can draw lines between them to shape the map a bit like you did with Scorpion swamp. I reckon you could get lucky in the next run. All depends on the choices you make once in the temple and the things you do in Port Blacksand. Good luck :)
