    Much needed video. Recently transitioned to sprint only. Being an endurance nut head for 2 years. Being on bike ridiculous for hours. Killing fast twitch muscle. Wrecking havoc in my digestion with sugar spikes. I have developed huge quads and killed strava segments on most occasion. If you are a high tempered guy. Sprint is for you.

    I would be interested in a comparison of race disciplines for training and diet. I'm assuming that watts/kg is important for all but the breakfast was interesting after watching an interview with Jay Vine where he seemed to obsess about every calorie. How much does WVA change his diet and training for TDF vs cyclocross? Thanks for the informative video. I really don't know anything about track cycling. Cheers.

    • @matthiaswuest7271
      @matthiaswuest7271 Год назад

      I definitely agree that comparing disciplines would be interesting! in general however, the couple of grams you might save by eating a smaller breakfast A) is only really important when the road goes uphill, and B) plays into a much bigger and longer-term diet plan. Having the extra piece of cake on race day is not what's going to determine the outcome.
      While athletes at the absolute pinnacle of the sport may very well be obsessive about every last bite, I think you'd find the vast majority are pretty flexible - the main goal will be consuming enough carbohydrates to keep up with their training 😉🥐

    • @gcn
      @gcn  Год назад

      That's a great video idea!

    • @andrasszabo1570
      @andrasszabo1570 Год назад +1

      Watts/kg is not at all important for track cycing. It's a bit of an overrated stat, it's not the end all, be all in cycling. It's only really important on steep or long climbs, which there are, of course, none in a velodrome.
      On the flat watts/cda is far more important, but obviously it depends on speciality which energy systems and muscle groups are crucial.
      A sprinter who uses pretty much does only vO2 max must be muscular like a weightlifter. There is a great interview with Chris Hoy (I think on Rouleur) where he explains what goes into making a sprinter an Olympic champion.

    I can never understand 'races' where riders, runners or evn drivers do not startfrom a common line as in running sprint races. The riders etc. at the back have a considerable extra distancfe to travel to the finish line.If for example the rider at the very back at the start finishes second just a couple of metres behind the winner they will have done the race length in a quicker time but still not won.

      What I can say, being an Irish pensioner having lived and worked in Co Cork is that there is considerable scepticism in Ireland regarding sports people from "the diaspora" claiming Irish nationality and qualifying for Irish teams.
      Many such, living particularly in the UK declare for Ireland as they wouldn't have a hope in Hell of making the GB squads.
