    From EPIPHONE:
    Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop have teamed up again to create the Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird V - an authentic replica of the guitar designed by legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich. When it was launched in 1963, the Firebird™ was Gibson’s first neck-through-body model, and it went on to be used by players in a wide range of genres, including blues legend Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, to name a few.
    The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird V delivers vintage Firebird specifications at an accessible price, including a 9-ply neck-through-body made of mahogany and walnut with mahogany body wings to either side. Kluson® planetary geared “banjo” tuners anchor the strings at the headstock, while an Epiphone ABR bridge and newly redesigned Maestro™ Vibrola™ with an engraved Epiphone logo hold things down at the other end. The electronics are also premium and include Gibson USA Firebird mini humbucker™ pickups with Alnico 5 magnets, CTS® potentiometers, Mallory™ capacitors, and a Switchcraft® 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and 1/4” output jack, giving this remarkable recreation not only the look but also the sound of a classic Firebird V. An Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom hardshell case is also included.
    The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird I delivers vintage Firebird specifications at an accessible price, including a 9-ply neck-through-body made of mahogany and walnut with mahogany body wings to either side. Kluson® planetary geared “banjo” tuners anchor the strings at the headstock, while a Wraparound Lightning Bar bridge holds things down at the other end and ensures exceptional sustain. While in keeping with the vintage 1963 Firebird I’s stripped-down specifications, the electronics are also premium and include a Gibson USA Firebird mini humbucker™ pickup with Alnico 5 magnets, CTS® potentiometers, a Mallory™ capacitor, and a Switchcraft® 1/4” output jack, giving this remarkable recreation not only the look but the sound of a classic Firebird I. What upgrades!? They’re the exact same materials & construction as the 2019-present model with the addition of a meastro, banjo tuners, a $3 capacitor, a alnico v over a II magnet( even though II’s sound better for a fb in my opinion) and a case. Otherwise it’s a paint under a poly finish, same 9 ply walnut mahogany body, Indian laurel baord & cts pots. I hope you point this out in your demo rather that talk like these are some massive upgrades for $1100

    I bought one the Firebird I, just to see if this price increase is worth it. It isnt. There isnt a single good fret end, the tone pot doesnt work. I got heather poly mist, and it looks great, and fretboard is dark enough to pass for rosewood. It just doesnt play good with action out of the box sky high, fret ends that hurt, and a pot that is broken.

  • @trevor4533
    @trevor4533 4 месяца назад +9

    They look and are spec'd out pretty decently.
    But $1699 for a non signature Epiphone with Indian laurel is comical. Where I am, that's nearly 2 grand with tax.
    edit: For further perspective, a Gibson SG Standard is currently $1799. The last time a Gibson Firebird standard was in production was 2018 @ $1759, while the SG standard of that same year was about $1300-1500. Accounting for inflation, the Sg is pretty close to where its supposed to be today, and I would assume if Gibson produced another Firebird standard, it would also follow the same trend and be ~$2199. ...But that's clearly not gonna happen now.
    I defended the pricing on the AJ because there's very little in today's market to substitute it, but this just makes zero sense lol.

    • @marcelpaquet8134
      @marcelpaquet8134 4 месяца назад +1

      I mean there is also no affordable firebird with the maestro banjo tuners etc.
      But yeahr the price is too high for what is delivered. If it was similar to the Mike Mccready Mexico strat (nitro, rose wood, decent relicing) I'd be buying one in a heart beat!

    • @trevor4533
      @trevor4533 4 месяца назад

      @@marcelpaquet8134 sure, but you can easily buy a used Gibson firebird for not a whole lot more. And add a trem to that if you wanted.
      Whereas the 70s style silverbursts, you’re only other option is spend $7k+
      But yeah, nitro, rosewood, moving production to Korea, etc all would make much more sense at these prices.

    • @marcelpaquet8134
      @marcelpaquet8134 4 месяца назад +1

      @@trevor4533 that is true. Well you don't have the carved headstock on most non custom shop models if I recall correctly. Which to me is key to firebird look. But yeahr unless the production quality is on the level that deserves a price like that I hope it fails.
      Speaking of how does the AJ LP compare to both other epiphones and it's gibson counter part?

    • @trevor4533
      @trevor4533 4 месяца назад

      @@marcelpaquet8134 Oh wow, I totally overlooked the carved headstock. You're right.
      Looking at reverb, there are a few USA line Gibsons with the carved headstock, but the prices do creep into the ~$23-2500 range. Although a nice pelham blue one sold last month for $1750 w/ a case.
      So there's 4 AJ lines. The art models, the '79 IbG, Gibson LP standard, and custom shop.
      On paper, The '79 has specs closest to the custom shop. Volute, long neck tenon, custombucker neck pickup, correct artwork on back of headstock, etc.
      Quality wise, would definitely lean closer to the artwork models.
      Apparently, there's a few more IbG Epiphones coming out this month. An LP Custom, a '59 reissue, a '61 LP SG Custom triple pickup w/trem, and an Es355. All non-signature guitars. So now I'm really curious to see how they get priced.

I really don’t think the straight pull over the nut, over the slight string angle that the standard has is worth the design effort. Most likely the Gibson pickups are the extra cost. The Adam Jones Custom has a Custombucker in the neck and that alone costs 245 USD.
      It's a shame because Epiphone was the workhorse brand, but it seems like they became a "Premium" Asian Made Brand

      @@WaurufEx only difference between USA & the amazing fb720’s is replacing the alnico Ii magnet with a V, thing is the firebird sound is famous because of that II magnet. The articulation of a V doesn’t work well in my opinion. 2020 epi fb pickups sound better than my 2013 Gibson fb v.

    the firebird bonamassa model cost 600 euros with a rosewood fingerboard and a credible sunburst color. these models with absurd colors, laurel fingerboards and always made in China cost 1500 euros. are we kidding?
