I bought the Jumper T18 pro because it was on sale . I fly only helicopter so the range from the internal anttena is plenty for line of sight flying. Futaba uses internal antennas for some of their radios.
This was great, I just ordered a Jumper T18 pro and I'm thinking of doing an antenna mod after seeing this to an external sma connector instead of what's inside
This was by far the most informative review of this radio, I did tons of reading and watching of its reviews and still had no idea the screen was upgraded for example... Thank you for doing it thoroughly and properly! I still got a couple of questions: It looks like both internal antenna and external pigtail for 900MHz antenna are on u.fl connectors, could you swap them easily or are they super-glued in place? Obviously 4in1 and 5in1 modules use the exact same firmware so they should be cross compatible - but are the internal connectors all the same or will it require some mods for people who want to put 5in1 into T16 or 4in1 into T18? Do you know if standard and Lite versions also use M3 gimbal threads? (Asking because these look same as T16 design, but regular/Lite look more similar to ones on TX16S gimbals which I read somewhere were M4).
Thanks Filip! - They are glued inside but as far as I can tell they can tell the UFL connectors can be easily disconnected. Pay attention that you should not use the 2.4ghz antenna with the 900mhz module as it won't work well. - I was told by Jumper tat the T16 is not compatible with the 5In1 Module. - Yes, all the versions are using M3 gimbal threads.
Now that Opentx is out im fully using my t18 pro now. All though I don’t like that the sticks pull out. Bc they spin while I’m flying and it’s kinda annoying. Thinking about just putting some glue in.
Still have my pre-order for the TX16S locked in. No serious reason to cancel and go with the T18 and I haven't decided on R9 or Crossfire yet so that's off my priorities list for now. I'm sure I''ll be happy either way. Thanks for a great overview, and looking forward to your more in-depth findings later! Cheers.
Even if you decide to go for R9 over Crossfire for some unexpected reason, 5in1 does 300mW whereas the full module did 1W last time I cared about R9, maybe more these days :) That being out of way I am heavily leaning towards this one over TX16S because: 1) I've had a T16 since the hall gimbals were released and it's been a great experience making my radio slightly better every few months by investing a few bucks (internal 4in1 module, USB-C board with internal charging, carbon case, foldable handle) so I have full faith in Jumper making this one better over time. 1.1) when/if eventually it gets USB-C charging, it will be over the same port and not a silly secondary bottom port 🙈 2) Famous Futaba 18MZ gimbal sensors at less than 10% price 🤩 3) Better LCD and lack of touch screen which I fully anticipate will be a mess for at least a few versions after its support is released, and even then I prefer buttons for an OS originally designed for buttons 4) 60 grams less is a nice benefit for the old neck
Other reviews have confirmed the T18's 2.4 ghz antenna range is quite a bit less than the TX16S which is kind of a big deal. Since I'm not settled on R9 paying for it up-front for a debateably less reliable reverse-engineered solution FrSky will no doubt try to resist (eg: ACCESS) doesn't justify that difference in price. I can get the real-deal for the same and not worry those issues and have the module free to transfer to future radios when I upgrade or am forced to replace it. I also don't have to wait for those perks to get added later, I get them out of the box so it's all forward for me now.
Gday Gal, great review this a cool transmitter like the tx16s its a hard choice for anyone needing a new transmitter, I'm kind of leaning towards the tx16s but ill wait for the next update, nice work Gal cant wait to see some more of your testing mate.👍🛸
Hi Gal, I'm writing from Mexico because I have some doubts about the Jumper T18, mainly about the operation and the range of the 2.4Ghz frequency with the PCB antenna, in this sense what has been your experience that you have already tried it? is the range very short compared to the RadioMaster TX16s? I have acquired this radio but I still have the opportunity to change it, an option to change it would be the RadioMaster, I would like to know how has been your experience with the 2.4GHz/PCB range in the Jumper T18 and what would be your advice to choose the best radio since I am starting in this world and I would like to choose the one that works best. Thank you for your attention and I send you a greeting from Mexico Atte: Antonio
Hola Jesús. I use the TX16S as my daily RC and I don't have a vast experience with the T18, so I am not sure I can help you out. I did test the range of the T18 and it seemed to perform fine.
Sorry, I haven't had a chance to watch the whole video, so you may have mentioned this, but how does this compare to the openTX of a Taranis X9D??? I have a X9D and I am pretty happy with it, but I need two more radios and would love to give the Jumper T18 a try. I know that it supports many "protocols", but how dies that translate to brands. What I mean is, I know it supports DSM and DSM is Spektrum. But what about the other ones? What brands use the other protocols? How smooth are the gimbals on this thing...? Thanks.
"advanced gimbal sensor RDC90" you mean RDC90 rezistive potentiometers which will wear out(you should just get the hall ones), and "made from a different material" PC polycarbonate or plastic like the old pot gimbals of the T16 v1, also no built in charging , no touch screen, no OpenTX/Companion support yet and the 900MHz module will work only with old R9 ACCST receivers when they get the firmware updated
Hi Gal, Thank you for your video is helping me to understand di remote, buat what I dont get it is, How to change power output while Im using R9 built in modul ? cause ive been observe on internet, this R9 built in can be reach 100mw-300mw, but I dont find how to change it
@@KremerFPV ya thank you for reply, cause Ive been fly just for 120m+- and I got lost rx, so dissapointed. I hope can get good news from u about custom power this J5in1
Just to confirm, this radio doesn't work with Crossfire, correct? If that is true, how long will it take to break such a protocol? Is it still worth it to invest in an external Crossfire module?
Thanks Gal, all sounds good. Though I think I'll sit back and wait till the touch screen versions are available, let all the sheep buy the their version one models. Can't see any sense in forking out money now and then having to spend more money to upgrade the radio at a later date like all the upgrades Jumper did with their first T16's
As a happy T16 owner with zero ribbon cable issues so far I am tempted by this for alps sensors and better screen mainly. I agree if you are not in a hurry to buy a new radio, wait and see how these things will be upgraded (I am holding my breath for USB-C charging as I have really gotten used to the convenience of my T16 being topped up while I play sim and never really being low on battery anymore). BUT if you're waiting out just because of the touch screen, I honestly doubt that will be an actual upgrade over this. Maybe some day when/if OpenTX switches to mainly supporting touch screen radios, but right now it's designed for buttons and it will take a lot of work and probably at least a few major updates for touch UI to be good.
No worries :-) I don't think that the lack of touch screen is a big issue as I am not sure how useful it's going to be anyway. Which radio controller do you currently have?
@@KremerFPV My main radio is Futaba 18SG with crossfire long range. Though I do like the cheap Chinese radios for some of FPV my wings and drones. Having a touch screen will be excellent and much easier for setting up new models and their settings.
