Travel Ban expansion to six more countries

- The travel ban has been expanded to six countries - Burma (Myanmar), Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania. This is in addition to the revised travel ban already in effect, which restricts entry from Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Venezuela and North Korea.
Main points:
Immigrant visas only (does not affect non immigrant visas)
In force from Feb 22, 2020
Will affect DV2020.
Does not affect people who already have their immigrant visas before Feb 21.

Well this have been fun, thank you Brisimon, I'm 2020 DV lottery selectee Tanzania, but I'm also very spiritual I can't be sad about this, I believe it is for a good reason things like this happen in life, all I can learn from this is money rules everything, thus I will use this discrimination distortion to fuel my ambition to gain personal wealth and therefore I will never be disrespected ever again, also I will shift my plans and focus to my UK company and hopefully I will be able to move there when I meet the entrepreneurship requirements for UK migration, trump can not kill us nor break us we are stronger 10,000,000 times than he will ever be, matter of fact stronger that his entire generation will ever be, period

You mentioned that selectees of banned countries residing in USA/CAN are exempt from the ban , is it specifically for CAN/USA or are there other countries where a selectee is a resident of that are exempt? Also, random q - any mention if the ban will affect the lottery selection results in May (adjusted to remove banned countries or residents of those countries) or does that go as normal and the ban filtering is done after the selection ?
Will the monthly bulletins scheduling interviews for Sudanese be canceled?

This is very sad especially for those who won. I wholeheartedly sympathize with you. It is not the end of world, it just means it was not meant to be. So Simon, does that mean there will be more available visas given that the banned winners are more likely not to be issued?

What if I'm a citizen of the Russian Federation but was born in Kyrgyzstan and therefore in the field "birthplace" entered Kyrgyzstan. Will it somehow affect me or it will benefit?
So, Brit, if a national of one of these banned countries already lives in the US on a non-immigrant visa and was intending to apply for Adjustment of Status (AoS) - will they be allowed/exempt? I’ve looked through the proclamation and the DHS statement and indeed it says that those are exempt - but I wonder if it applies to those who live in the US on the immigrant visas. Yes - that scenario would mean the person is exempt from the ban.

but as you know iran is one of those baned countries. so what does it mean ???
People from Iran can enter the lottery, but the terms of the ban mean that not many from Iran will be able to get approval.

No - your Canadian residence will give you an exemption.

Your visitors visa will not allow you to stay as long as you need - and you cannot risk entering the USA with intent to adjust status.

No. It said it doe not affect refugees and who have legal status in a third country. It affects people coming out of those countries.
If you have a secons citizenship/passport you would be exempt from the ban.

However the results will be released in May.
DV 2020 was released on 'May 2019' but if you mean DV 2021 then it will be released around "May 5th 2020" or '05.05.2020.'

My wife is a legal Eritrean refugee that has legal refugee status in Ethiopia. She has legal permanent residence. She already has her interview appointment in the US embassy in Addis Ababa on February 25 for an immigrant visa. I am the spouse US citizen petition. Since my wife is a legal refugee her travel document is from the Ethiopian government and many of her civil documents too. Will the band affect her? I read that it is for people who are trying to immigrate out of Eritrea and that it excludes refugees. Even if a legal refugee wanted too they can't used the passport from the country they claimed asylum from and Eritrean dont have to get the police and military certificates for interview at US embassy because many of them can't get it from their Eritrean government. I read that in the travel state website. If they have been in Ethiopia they can get police certificate and even birth certificate and marriage certificate from UNHCR/ARRA. ARRA is the Ethiopian government.

So when it comes to DV, the story with countries banned from participating in Diversity Visa lottery is clear cut. No participation in diversity visa draw, no immigrant visas, period. With other countries it seems a bit trickier. Let's say someone was born in Kyrgyzstan, but then moved to Russia and now holds a Russian passport. The country of chargeability is Kyrgyzstan, the country of citizenship is Russia. Kyrgyzstan citizens can not obtain immigrant visas according to Trump's proclamation. However in our case the winner is a citizen of Russia, but was born in Kyrgyzstan. If I understand correctly he can claim his green card since he is no longer a Kyrgyzstan citizen. If on the other hand he was born in Kyrgyzstan and is still the citizen of Kyrgyzstan, then no immigrant visa for him. BritSimon, what do you think? Is my logic correct or there are some faulty assumptions on my part?
